About this property

Spacious Family Place with Game Room, Great Fishing & Sunsets + a Nearby Winery

Enjoy our large game room year-round (with AC or heat) when you can't be on the lake! Lightly developed this 684-acre lake is part of the Crow river system and is known for low traffic and great fishing year-round, especially walleyes.

For enjoying time on the water we offer guests a paddle boat, canoe, kayaks, a paddleboard and a water mat. We also have a pontoon you can rent during your stay.

Our shoreline has a sandy-rocky bottom with minimal weeds, and a low-slope out. Depending on spring rains, water depths will vary but often it's shallow enough for wading and swimming with little ones.

Relax with your morning coffee or enjoy the sunsets from our patio or the deck on the stairs. Our tree-lined lot offers both shade and sun with open flat areas for lawn games and star gazing. Just across the street and within walking distance are scenic woodlands, marshes and rolling prairie in the State Wildlife Mgmt lands.

Our main level welcomes plenty of natural light into the open-concept great room with a spacious kitchen, dining area, and living room leading out to the deck. There are (2) bedrooms and a full bath, as well, and the game room is just a couple steps down from the living room. We have a full size ping pong, foosball, and air hockey tables; a full size fridge and small microwave. Plus table & chairs for eating or puzzles, games and crafts. Here is where you will find our lawn games, sand toys and other activities to keep kiddos busy. The game room is temp-controlled with AC in the summer and heat in winter, making it a great place for pets, as well.

For your grilling needs we have both charcoal and gas grills, with propane provided - and it's just a few steps out the back door.

The basement has two bedrooms and a full size bathroom, along with a great room where kids, teens and adults alike can hang out, lounge or nap. There are TVs with Google Chromecast + DVD players on both levels, and movie collections on both levels. You can also find plenty of books, cards, boardgames, puzzles and toys.

The Public Access is on the north end of the lake (about 1/4 mile from us) and has a concrete ramp, parking area and a sandy beach-like area.

** There is a dock at the home but currently no boat lift. Please bring an anchor for any watercraft you bring to anchor near shore overnight.

Nice spot for a family Christmas

We love this lake home, which includes a game room in the garage and large amount of space for the little kids to separate and have fun. Lots of games and toys for every age. Fishing was good right in front of this place which was a plus. Well stocked kitchen with all cooking devices one would need. Very receptive and good host. They do charge a fee over 8 but you know what that is before you book. Great experience overall would recommend anyone looking for a good getaway cabin for multiple families. House was clean and well maintained .

Great!

This was such a fabulous getaway for the family. The game room was perfection for the teenagers to escape and we loved the views. The sgairs were too much for our elderly parents, but the landing made a perfect view point for them to watch kids play.

Perfect large family vacation

Absolutely wonderful spot on the lake for an extended family vacation over Labor Day weekend! Plenty of space for all and with all the water toys and amenities you could ask for! We had such a wonderful time hanging out by the dock, kids playing on the lilypad, kayaking, paddleboarding, peddleboating, tubing and water skiing! Playing yard games on the large lawn, sharing stories and memories around the campfire and playing games in the living room. The kitchen was well stocked for large group meals with a bonus fridge in the garage/games room, where the kids thoroughly enjoyed waking their older cousins by playing air hockey at ungodly hours of the morning! ;) The hosts Reed and Rachel were fantastic to communicate with and very accommodating with the check-in and check-out process. Would definitely stay here again! It may become an annual family reunion spot.

Great place for family and friends

Lots of kid toys for the yard, which is fenced in so great for little ones to play. Perfect lounge space and firepit. We had fun playing ping ping and airhockey too! The water was high due to all the rain so understandably wasn’t much of a beach but there’s a swim pad that a bunch of people can sit on and paddleboard so we just hung out with those!

Great Location

We all had fun the house this past week. Although, we were very disappointed in the fact that the beach was so overgrown w/ weeds that we could not even attempt to walk on it. The beach pics posted on the VRBO site must be at least 3-5 years old.

Family time

We enjoyed our stay. The house was just as expected, clean and plenty of space for the whole family. Kids liked the bunk room and adults had their privacy. Beds and bedding were comfortable. The weather wasn't the best when we were there and due to all the rain the mosquitos were very bad, so we didn't spend much time in the outdoor space.(not the owners fault) The breeze came up on Sat evening so we were able to have a fire, which is important to our family. We found a great city park in Litchfield. It had a splash pad, beach, and great playground. Maybe they spray for mosquitos because the bugs were not bad there. Our family really enjoyed the game room at the house! It was great that some could stay up late and play cards while others slept. I gave a four stars on the cleanliness because the outdoor toys were not clean and ready to use. In the end it didn't matter to us, just a comment. Great memories were made. Good place to stay!

Great Space for a Large Group

This house was perfect for our group of 9 ranging from 11 to 67 years old. We traveled to Minnesota from Colorado for a family funeral, and having ample room for all of us to stay together made those two days a little easier. Check-in was super easy and Rachel graciously let us check in early. The house had plenty of space for our group to spread out, eat meals, play games, etc. The 4 queen bedrooms and bunk area with double/twin bunks provided enough beds for everyone to sleep comfortably, though the two basement queen rooms were quite cold according to the two who slept in them. One slightly awkward moment was when Rachel asked how many beds needed to be made up. Since it sleeps 17, I totally understand only making the beds that will actually be used. However, not knowing exactly how we'd all configure for sleeping, it was hard to specify how many singles/shared beds, etc. Maybe numbering or lettering the beds in the photos would help future guests easily communicate their needed bed setup. Overall, the spacious house with a fun game room was exactly what our family group needed. The amenities were as advertised. I'd recommend this property to any large family or group looking for a comfortable place to stay together! Thank you, Rachel!

Family gathering

My son and family flew in from North Carolina to spend a "Christmas" weekend with myself, his brother and sister and their families. We haven't seen him for about 6 years so this was a great time by all. The home accommodated all of us for 2 night stay. The game room in the garage was awesome for the kiddos and adults. My whole family was impressed with the roominess and the sleeping area. We even had a visit from my son's 1st cousin that they hadn't seen each other for over 10+ years. The ice fishing was good also - caught 2 walleye but one got away. It was the 1st time my grandson ice fished. Also the owners left the holiday decor up to feel like Christmas - They also responded quickly if we had any questions, Thank you Rachel and Reed for the use of your home --

Christmas Fun for the Family!

The owners are good at communicating and very helpful. They assisted in getting a local Santa for our Christmas celebration for the grandkids, which was an AMAZING experience for the kids!!! The game room was great fun for all ages!! Biggest water heater I've ever seen. It rained, and in late December, that was odd, but we still had fun on the ice and campfire & s'mores. towels were a bit thin and be sure to bring our own plates/soup bowls. We would definitely stay here again... nice place and location.

Northern oasis close to the cities

A wonderful northern oasis that's close to the cities. We had 4 different families (8 adults 6 children) and there was plenty of space to spread out. Everything was very clean and the kitchen had essentially everything that was needed. All the games, toys, beach toys & boats were such a huge plus! Made it feel like we were going to visit a family cabin instead of just another rental. We're hoping to come back again!

Big Swan Lake

We enjoyed our time at this lake property. The lake is beautiful and a wonderful place to swim and kayak. It was shallow a long ways out making it ideal for children. The house had some maintenance issues and was hot during our stay due to extreme heat outside. But the accommodations were good. We were surprised by the large extra fee for the number of people staying there, although our number was lower than the accomodations advertised. There are lots of toys and activities there kept the children entertained. Actually, they enjoyed catching toads and frogs the best. This place has plenty of those!

Fun place for a large group

Our family group, ranging in ages from 1-75, had a great time. The upstairs living room and kitchen area was great for all hanging out. The attached game room was perfect. The hosts were very quick to respond to some issues. The lake around the dock is very shallow so it made for stress free swimming with kids.

Great location! Very clean

There were 17 of us in this home with plenty of room for everyone to hang out together or take a break from the chaos of having 17 people in one house. The steps are definitely a work out and u cannot see ur boat or swimming area from the house if u have someone who cannot do steps they might not enjoy as much. We had to modify the wheelchair we brought for our nana so it wld fit in the doorways to the bathroom/bedroom but once we took the “hubcaps” off her wheelchair we were able to get her around with no issues. So many extras included made the tough fishing more bare-able for the kiddos. Over all great place to stay. We had to reach out to the owner a few times during the stay and they were very prompt in their replies. Great first experience with renting Vrbo for our group.

Wonderful Lake House

There was a group of 14 of us for a family reunion/vacation ages 6-65. The house was absolutely perfect and the lake was fantastic. We did some relaxing on the back deck and around the fire pit and also made good use of the water toys provided (kayaks, canoe, and paddle boat). We didn't have much luck fishing, caught a few but nothing worth keeping. The hosts were responsive and kind to work with. Thanks for a great week!

Swan Lake Getaway

Our overall stay was pleasant. Loved the opportunity to reconnect with adult children and the grandkids. Please note that the staircase to the dock is far more lengthy than it appears in the photos. Total of 43 steps at a pretty steep angle. Not a friend to anyone with bad knees or asthma! No shade on the beach or mid staircase landing so plan accordingly. Owner was quick to respond to questions. Pack paper towels/napkins for your stay. We were a family of 11 staying for 5 nights. Went through the only roll included our first day. Home was very comfortable and had everything we needed for meal preparation for our family size and the game room with an extra refrigerator was a huge bonus! Enough for all of us from 3 to 61 years old to do.

About the host

Hosted by Reed & Rachel Vieau

Host profile image
Having grown up in small towns, we have always enjoyed being in the outdoors year-round. Our home offers you great opportunities to do the same! Completely renovated in 2004 it has a brand new basement and exterior, plus all new *everything* inside. Our main level boasts teak wood and Travertine floors and a beautiful view of the lake with memorable sunsets.

Reed went to college for firefighting, while I attended college in Iowa for communications. Though we grew up in the same town, our paths didn't cross until we were both well out of school. I currently manage our property and will be your main contact. We love peaceful lake settings and relaxing in the outdoors, which motivates us to help you do the same!

Why they chose this property

Surrounded by trees the home offers privacy and solitude without feeling closed in. The open view from the front door draws your eyes to the gorgeous vista of the lake below, where you can get in some swimming or fishing as the lake plenty of room to relax on a pontoon or set out your ice house! The neighborhood has a lovely drive with lots of trees for quiet walks or bike rides. As our property does have elevation, there is a small landing on the lake stairs where you can sit and watch for all kinds of wildlife.

In this "heart of the lakes" region, where neighbors are like friends, it's easy to feel like you're in the country yet still have a wide range of things to do and see. Several small towns offer unique sights, eateries and shops, including a popular winery, art galleries & museums. Or you can get to larger towns within 30-40 minutes with Minneapolis and its western suburbs being just about an hour away.

What makes this property unique

The view is gorgeous and the home is beautiful with a main level arched hallway, spacious kitchen, and an 8-ft patio door framed by large windows for enhanced lake views and natural light. There is also ample space to spread out, with 4 bedrooms one can sneak away to for a nap. We love the cozy campfire area in the backyard, and that even when a rainy day occurs groups can gather in the garage for a ping pong tournament, air hockey match, or games and meals at the banquet tables.
