About this property

Country tower apartment in Cortona 1bed1bath with shared pool & gorgeous gardens

Back in the days, when Molino di Bordone was an active mill with a farm, the tower used to be the place where tobacco leaves were dried. At the entrance of the apartment you can still see the old furnace.

Your apartment is located on the first upstairs floor of the main house. Very large, light and airy bedroom with wonderful views of the garden and hills around; king size double bed (or twin beds) and a sofa bed making it an ideal apartment for a couples or small family wishing to contain their costs. Large marble-tiled bathroom with shower. The kitchen is perfect for light meals and has an outside dining area. When you get back from your sightseeing you can relax by the pool or in the extensive gardens, and the play areas are wonderful for children to let off steam.

An Authentic Getaway in Cortona - You will be staying at an elegant Tuscan Country Villa with a large Pool.

The property is a restored, 17th century Stone Farmhouse with gorgeous gardens, sunny and shady terraces and a childrens play area.

Complete safety in a 10 acre garden, secluded & off the road. Entertainment for all ages: badminton, trampoline, swings & climbing frame, bikes. And a nice big swimming pool to cool off when it gets hot.

Perfect location for couples, family reunions and small groups of friends.

We have no light pollution so at night the stars shine brightly in the sky perfect for stargazing.

Molino di Bordone is a self catering holiday rental property; ideally located for exploring Tuscany and Umbria. Authentically restored, furnished with country charm and decorated with the utmost attention to detail.

Pino & Caroline restored it from a ruin that had been empty for over 30 years. Drawn by the peacefulness of the place, the 360 degree views and the surrounding vineyards and olive groves, you will often find them there busy gardening and ready to welcome you.

Each apartment is located in a historic part of the property:
Stalla Rustica 3 bed/3bath
Fontanella 2bed/2bath with Aircon.
Molinello 1bed/1bath
Torre Suite 1bed/bath

When you rent Molino di Bordone as a whole you will use all the units and there will be no other guests. The owners still have a home here so there is always someone available on site.

Each unit/apartment has its own private entrance and garden/terrace area with BBQ. You have free access to the swimming pool and play areas, gardens, olive groves and parking area - FREE WiFi.

Help yourselves to the organic vegetables from Pino's Kitchen Garden with abundances of sage, thyme and rosemary and fruit from the trees beyond the lavender bushes (apples, cherries, figs & plums depending on the season).

Aircon: Not all the areas have air conditioning. There are fans in the bedrooms without air conditioning.

For winter rentals there is central heating in all the rooms and some wood burning or pellet fireplaces.

Friendly dogs and cats live on the property (please don’t feed or bring inside).

This is a holiday/vacation rental on a privately owned home.

TUSCANY: within 100km / 60m
AREZZO (30mins) Our Provincial capital and a charming medieval centre with a lovely cathedral and many antique shops. The Legend of the True Cross frescos, masterpiece of Piero della Francesca are in the Basilica of San Francesco. Arezzo was also the birthplace of painter, architect and biographer Giorgio Vasari who gave his name to the elegant portico on Arezzo’s Piazza Grande.
MONTEPULCIANO (30mins) One of the best-preserved hill towns of Italy. Wine & Cooking of this town are well known all over the world. Much to see. Great visit. Taste the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
PIENZA (45mins) Overlooks the Val D’Orcia. It was the birthplace of Pope Pius II Piccolomini who endeavoured to create an “ideal city” of the tiny town of Corsignano. There are many fine buildings and breath-taking views. The English Patient was filmed here. Pienza features fun boutiques and several shops selling the typical Pecorino cheese.
MONTALCINO (1hr) A Medieval settlement in enchanting natural landscape. Montalcino is all about the famous Brunello di Montalcino wine which can be sampled in the numerous wine bars or nearby wineries. The fortress has a wine shop too and magnificent views from its ramparts
SIENA (45mins) Exquisite Gothic walled city – perfectly preserved since it was never damaged in the 2WW. Small, manageable and pedestrian; pop.50,000. Duomo: see cathedral-library frescoes by Pinturicchio. Campo Square is the place to have coffee and people watch and imagine the Palio race taking place. Enoteca - located in the restored Medici Fortezza; stocks 1000 different wines. You can taste or buy at reasonable prices. Parking in Siena: the best place for 95% occasions is the Fortezza or Stadio - there is nearly always a space. There is also parking San Francesco with escalators into town. It is not easy to find free street parking. Beware of illegal parking.
FLORENCE (1hr 15 minutes) Capital city of the Region of Tuscany and jewel of the Italian Renaissance. We strongly suggest booking the major museums in advance. Going by train saves the problem of parking and is far less stressful and tiring in our opinion. You can park at one of the Cortona train stations and come back in the evening.

UMBRIA: within 100km / 60m
CASTIGLIONE DEL LAGO (25mins) The town of Castiglione del Lago is a large balcony overlooking Lake Trasimeno. It retains a beautiful historic centre within 12th-century medieval walls. From its Rocca, the view captures the entire lake with its islands, the surrounding hills and the profile of the towns that dominate the landscape, from Cortona to Panicale. From Castiglione del Lago there is a cycle-pedestrian path that enables visitors to circumnavigate Lake Trasimeno, some sixty kilometres long.
LAKE TRASIMENO (15mins) Fourth largest lake in Italy. Great day out, with or without children. Pretty towns all around with cafes, beaches, boating, trips to the islands. PASSIGNANO SUL TRASIMENO (20mins) is a charming lakeside town – the spot for Sunday ‘passeggiata’ or to rent a boat - and features several good restaurants specialising in both lake and sea fish.
PERUGIA (45mins) Significant traces of the city’s Etruscan past are visible and there are a number of important historical places to visit. Corso Vanucci offers magnificent stores and historical buildings & the Pinacoteca, Umbrian National art gallery. By car it is best to park at the bottom of the city in the Piazza Partigiani parking garage and go up the moving staircase to the Centre – emerging from inside the old “Rocca Paolina” Fortress. Central Perugia itself is largely impossible to park in.
ASSISI (45mins) Umbria’s best-known city and home to Saint Francis of Assisi & Saint Claire. One of the highest expressions of religious vitality of the region is to be found in the Basilica of San Francesco, which houses the body of the saint and contains a variety of priceless frescoes (Giotto, Cimabue, Lorenzetti, etc.). Pay car parks located all around the walls.
GUBBIO (1hr) High and off the beaten track, it has the most medieval appearance of the Umbrian towns. Well preserved buildings in pink limestone; spectacular countryside all around. Experience the views from the funicular to S.Ubaldo from which you can walk into the hills behind or down into the centre. To get there take the scenic drive via the hamlet of Mercatale and the Umbrian town of Umbertide.
ORVIETO (1hr) take the A1 south to get there. Ancient Etruscan hill town high up on a tufa rock plateau; superb Gothic cathedral & square, it is one of the oldest towns in Italy, famous for its white wines with lots of enjoyable narrow streets to explore, underground Etruscan ‘Ipogei’ or underground tombs. Return via the scenic route stopping at TODI (1hr) ancient hill town and perhaps DERUTA (1hr) for its world famous, prized, colourful majolica pottery.
TORGIANO (1hr) is small but is host to two marvellous museums: - the Museo del Vino and the Museo dell'Olio. Both are the private collections of the Lungarotti winemaking family, who are responsible for having put Umbrian wine on the map. Wine tasting is possible next door to the wine museum!
SPELLO (1hr) This ancient Roman spa town still features its Roman gates and is home to some splendid works by Pinturicchio (student of Perugino) in the Collegiata of Santa Maria Maggiore. Every year at Pentecost there is the ‘Spello in Fiore’ competition in town for the most beautiful display of flowers along the narrow streets, windows and balconies making this a charming spot to stop and wander.

Wonderful Hosts

We arrived exhausted and Caroline the owner, rescued us. She graciously drove us to meet our family in Passignano for dinner. She went above and beyond to make us welcome. Gave us some food the night we arrived for our breakfast the next morning . She is a hostess par excellence. The property is beautiful and well kept. The rooms clean and comfortable.

Beautiful historic place to stay.

We stayed here for 5 nights at the beginning of May. We were made most welcome by Caroline and Pino and the dogs. Caroline gave us a tour of the grounds and the tower. We had booked the room in the tower (purely on price) but for convenience we were offered the larger Molinello which has its own patios both front and rear. The house itself has a lot of history. The facilities are excellent with a pool, bikes and a vegetable garden. Cortona is a short drive and has some nice restaurants and plenty of history. We are really pleased we chose Molino di Bordone as it is an ideal location for day trips or just chilling. Thank you Caroline and Pino for being such great hosts. Charlie and Lesley

We thoroughly enjoyed out stay, the farmhouse and the surrounding property was beautiful. So quiet and peaceful whatever the time, yet very closely situated to great restaurants, towns and cities. Absolutely charming Tuscan retreat

We arrived at this little slice of heaven after 3 busy days in Florence. We were thrilled with this beautiful restored farmhouse and the peaceful gorgeous setting. The owners were out of the country, but their sweet helpful young adult children could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Our flat was well equipped, and the bed was fantastic, with a nice cool dark room, we finally got a good nights sleep after 2 weeks in Europe. Great location to explore all of Tuscany, or just relax by the pool. Fantastic restaurant close by, both kids work there and it was the best meal we had. Stop at the market, get some good meat, cheese and wine, help yourself to their wonderful garden, and settle in. Our only complaint was that we didn't stay another week.

Schönes Apartment in herrlicher Landschaft

The setting is quiet and centered, yet not far from shops, restaurants and the autostrada. Our apartment (Il Torre) was clean and well equipped, The owners, Pino and Caroline were unfailingly warm, friendly and full of helpful information. We would heartily recommend a stay here.

Thanks for your hospitality!

We were referred to Il Molino by friends who have had family reunions here for many years. Now we know why they unequivocally recommended that we look no further for a place to stay in Tuscany. Not just a place to sleep and leave our stuff but to feel, dare I say “at home”, during our stay. We spent a week at the Nobile’s comfortable Tower Suite, with our teenage daughter. We were made to feel at home from our initial encounter with the Nobile’s children, who showed us our accommodations, made dinner recommendations and reservations, and filled us in on that evening’s entertainment, a festival in which they were participating in town. From then on, all we had to do was to express a concern or desire and Caroline or Pino would be quick to make suggestions about road trips, sights, or unique experiences, such as a dinner at the home of a local chef/farmer. It was like being at home, but in a new and exciting environment. Using this as our home base, we were able to explore most of Tuscany’s, and some of Umbria’s, historical and enchanting cities via easy one day round-trips by car. We wished we’d had an extra week to explore all the sites and gastronomic experiences. And, maybe another week just to hang out by the pool.

The perfect place to end a long holiday

This apartment was our 8th we booked through Holiday rentals on this trip and it was the perfect place to relax and unwind after a few months touring. The farm is set in a well maintained garden with a very inviting pool. It is only a few minutes from the local village and about 10 from Cortona. It is an ideal location to explore the countryside or just chill out. Both Caroline and Pino and their children were perfect host and made us feel very welcome. We stayed in the smallest apartment which was adequate for our needs though those wanting a bit more room might find one of the others better. While apartment didn't have airconditioning you didn't need it even though it was in the 30sC every day, the thick walls and the overhead fans kept it very comfortable. The Tuscan country side is just magic and we couldn't imagine a better place to stay and enjoy it followed by a dip in the pool on your return. M & H from Australia

Perfect location for a Tuscany/Umbria adventure

Caroline and Pino are consummate hosts, who have done an amazing job in restoring their property and the grounds. It's right on the Tuscany/Umbria border - and it's easy to get to Florence, Siena, Perugia etc. The apartment was just right for the vacation - and would definitely stay there again. Try their olive oil too!

Charming time in charming place

My husband and I spent unfortunately only a few days in such a graceful property! We enjoyed peace into a sunny atmosphere and get pleasure from viewing and smelling and listening wonderful nature and landscape all around!!! Sweet hills, olive groves, emerald fields, flowers beds, trees, pond full of singing frogs, delightful petting animals! Our stay in Torre Suite was magic because Molino di Bordone is a historic tuscan jewel brought to life with sense and sensibility by Caroline and Pino Nobile! Thanks to Nobile family's warm welcome...we will come back!!! Emilia and Massimiliano

This is becoming a habit

As you drive down the track lined with Cypruss trees and Molino di Bordoni comes into view your first reaction is "this is too good to be true - it's beautiful". We've stayed here 3 times now and still get that initial buzz arriving at Pino & Caroline's place. Our latest visit was the best ever. We were lucky to have such good fellow guests, we really clicked with each other. Daytime we went our separate ways, evenings we shared our experiences and stories over a glass or two of wine on the patio. The weather was so warm we sat out chatting 'til late every night! Pino & Caroline have a super family and the warmth of their hospitality made all the difference to our stay. This is the kind of place where you can do as much or as little as you want. You'll have a great time.

Exploring Tuscany and Umbria

This is a beautiful place in the country. It is on the border of Tuscany and Umbria. We used it as a home base to explore Florence, Sienna, Assisa among others. The walled city of Cortona is in the hills above. The owners Caroline and Pino were very attentative to our needs and whims. My wife and I rented an apartment style room for a week. It has a kitchen and bathroom with washer. If you don't like to be in a hotel in a busy city and want a country experience that is close to all the great attractions of central Italy, this is a great place.

Hello, I'm Caroline, born in England and 100% in love with Italy.

I love travelling and everything connected to it.

My family is Anglo Italian. We personally welcome guests at their self-catering rental apartments at Molino di Bordone, an historic flour mill dated back to the 1600, and we live on the property.

Hospitality is our passion and job. And at il Molino everyday is like a dream come true. People from all around the world that just want to enjoy the real lifestyle of the destination they are visiting, living an authentic getaway!

We'll be delighted to answer all your questions, pointed out the best visits for you according to your tastes and needs.

I look forward to welcome you at il Molino di Bordone!

Why they chose this property

When we stood in the driveway we knew it was right for us. At the time it was still a ruin and had been empty for over 30 years ! We were drawn by the peacefulness of the place. There were no roads nearby making it safe for the children to play freely.

What makes this property unique

360 degree views of wooded hills, vineyards, olive groves and stream running through.
A lovely big swimming pool with loungers and grassy areas for sunbathing and reading.
For families with children there are soccer & volley ball nets, swings and climbing frame, bikes of various sizes and a trampoline, used not just for jumping but also star gazing at night - we have no light pollution.

We are walking distance (1km) from 2 coffee bars, food market, 2 restaurants, pizzeria, beauty salon, hairdressers, hardware store, clothing shop. We are only minutes from the historic town of Cortona and yet immersed in tranquility.
You can walk, run or bike for miles and not need to touch the asphalt.
