About this property

9 bed spacious & light renovated School house, ideal for Cyclists & Skiers

Our self catered accommodation is a renovated old school house in the small hamlet of La Paute, just outside of Bourg d’Oisans. We’ve kept the name that everyone knows it as locally - L’Ecole de La Paute.

The building has been converted into two apartments. This apartment, the 'Telegraphe' is on the 1st & top floor of the building (136m2) and is suitable for up to a maximum of 9 people. It has three large bedrooms (two at 20m2 and one at 15m2), with two ensuites plus an additional family bathroom and separate toilet. All bedrooms have 3 single beds, 2 of which can be zipped together to create one double and one single per room.

Cyclists are catered for with a secure cellar to house your bikes, including common tools, bike stand & track pump for any adjustments or repairs that might have to be made.

The building is situated at the base of the Col d’Ornon, just 2km from Bourg d’Oisans so all of the bike routes that you can enjoy from our B&B are just as accessible from here too.

If you are keen to meet other cyclists you’ll be welcome to come over to our B&B on the other side of town!

Bike friendly location in the heart of the TdF climbs

Excellent base to explore some of the famous climbs of the Tour de France. The school house had everything we needed and the bike tools were a bonus. A short walk to Bourg D’Oisans for dinner after a good days riding. Would highly recommend

Logement au top

Logement très fonctionnel, chaleureux et spacieux. Indications pour l'arrivée et le départ très claires. L'hôte est très réactif pour toutes questions. Le logement est très bien placé pourront le ski et les randonnées. Je recommande vivement. Nous étions 9 (4 adultes et 5 ados). Nous avons passé un agréable séjour.

After living in New Zealand for 4 years and then deciding we needed to move back closer to our family, we moved to Bourg D’Oisans as it has always been our dream to live in the mountains.

Prior to setting up Cycling Ascents, which includes a 5 bedroom B&B plus 2 rental apartments, he worked as a Quality Manager for various medical device companies, with a strong focus on customer service.

Why they chose this property

When we saw the school house for the first time in 2011 we new that we wanted to renovate a house like this. It took 6 years before we managed to buy it from the local council and it needed a lot of work (18 months of renovation) but we are very proud of what we have achieved and are sure you will enjoy your stay here!

What makes this property unique

The building is a local landmark, now restored and very distinctive with the window detail and colours. We have kept the large arched windows and high ceilings (4m in the ground floor Ornon apartment) to retain the character of the old building while offering the comforts of a modern home.
