About this property

Acorn Cottage, Little Howle Farm. Luxury, peace, calm. Near Ross on Wye

The lets are configured around a pretty courtyard. Because of the design, each home gets privacy. Little Howle Farm dates back to the early 1800's so all the buildings have thick stone walls, which in the winter hold the heat and in the summer keeps them lovely and cool inside. We are no longer a working farm, what were once working barns are now beautiful holiday lets.

Acorn Cottage has one double bedroom with luxury ensuite bathroom the bed can be configured as a king size bed or two single beds. The bathroom includes a bath and generous, separate shower. We provide cotton bedding, luxury fluffy bath sheets, hand towels, flannels and bath mats, shower gel and White Company bubble bath. The living area is situated upstairs and is open plan. The kitchen is fully equipped with hob, oven, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. We provide tea towels, dish cloths/sponge, oven gloves and apron as well as cleaning products. There is a back door which opens out on to the original barn steps leading to the car park and garden.
Games, puzzles, local information, suggested walks and OS maps are provided.
There is a patio area directly outside the cottage, which is a lovely sheltered place to sit, as it gets the sun all day. We also invite our guests to use the rear garden, which includes a barbeque and fire pit area, a large lawned area and a sun terrace at the top of the garden over looking the Malvern Hills. There is very little light pollution in Howle Hill so the terrace is perfect for star gazing.
There is plenty of on site parking is available to the rear of the barn.
We have a laundry room should guests need it (payable separately).

Howle Hill is a tiny settlement, too small to be called a village! It is very quiet here.
Many guests describe it as a haven and often comment how well they sleep and how relaxed they feel. We are perfectly placed between the Wye Valley and The Forest of Dean. A 5 minute drive from Ross on Wye with its many pubs, restaurants, shops and watersports on the river Wye. A 10 minute drive in the other direction takes you into The Forest of Dean.

We provide a welcome pack which includes Milk, local fruit juice, Weston's cider, cake, tea, coffee and sugar.

Acorn Cottage can be linked internally with Rivington Barn which creates a 3 double ensuite bedroom property to sleep 6. We also have The Granary which sleeps 4, meaning we can accommodate a maximum of 10 guests at any one time.

Beautiful Cottage

Acorn Cottage is a wonderful retreat for 2. It is in a great location, and has every amenity you could wish for. It is close to Ross-on-Wye with plenty of shops and Supermarkets should you need extra's. We were warmly welcomed by Pam & Geoff the owners. Couldn’t recommend this property more.

A wonderful stay

Weve been to little howle farm before and loved it, so we were thrilled to be able to come back and stay for a post-Christmas relax. The property was exactly as we remembered it from last time and we had a lovely stay - thankyou! The property has everything you could think of needing for a self catered experience and is so cosy. Knocked one star off the check in process because noone was around when we tried to drop the keys back on check out and we didnt really know what to do! Didnt impact upon the overall outcome of our wonderful stay though.

Got to go back wow

Wow what a fantastic place. If you want piece and quite in comfort then this is the place for you. It’s in a very quite place out in the country side piece and quite. The cottage is very comfortable with all that you need. We slept so well going past 9 o’clock every morning due to the piece and quite. Star gazing, country walks fresh air it’s all here. A short drive takes on to Ross on Wye town with all that you need , pubs, restaurants and tea shops. You must see Simonds Yat, park up and walk to the top fantastic views. Pam and Geoff are great hosts and live just across the yard, they are there if you need them but you never see them , they leave you to enjoy your holiday. Canoeing down the Wye is a must , we didn’t do this as the river was to high and dangerous, we are going back to do this. We are booked in for next year, can’t wait.

Ross-on-Wye Holiday

We found the property quaint and yet modern internally, everything was provided, and if you did require anything you just had to ask Amanda and Derek. The holiday cottage was under two miles from Ross-on-Wye, which was very convenient, also you were in the middle of the Wye valley, overall very nice.

Like being in a beautiful French chateau

What a lovely place. The bathroom alone was worth the stay but the overall comfiness and the quality and range of provision and the thought behind it is top drawer. Amanda and Derek are cheerful, welcoming and very knowledgeable hosts. Highly recommended.

A lovely little gem!

The cottage was a brilliant base for exploring Ross-on-Wye and further afield. The accommodation was beautiful, comfortable and top-notch. Derek and Amanda were most kind and welcoming, and there are Craft Classes available, if desired. The property has the use of a large garden and bbq It is only about 4 miles from Ross-on-Wye and has easy access to Hereford, Hay-on-Wye, Gloucester, Ledbury, Monmouth etc. There are lots of good walking trails in the vicinity and further afield:-Symonds Yat, Tintern Abbey plus good restaurants in Ross and many local pub hostelries to whet your appetite. First class accommodation with great attention to detail. Amanda couldn’t have done any more to makes us feel at home. From a bottle of wine and a pint of milk on arrival to home baked scones the following day. Would not hesitate to recommend Little Howle Farm.

Delightful - a joy

Amanda and Derek were brilliant hosts. From the moment we arrived their commitment to their guests was clear. The property has been refurbished to a high standard with lots of small touches to make it interesting. The grounds are good for sitting out and enjoying the weather and a glass of something. It was a joy to chat to Amanda and Derek around the property and their advice on places to eat and where to go was spot on. Highly recommended.

Home from home

From the very start of our trip to Acorn Cottage, Little Howle Farm was trouble free. Communications, directions to the property, the property itself all were amazing. The property has everything you need and more. The little touches that make it special were all around us - Mice and duck included. The warm welcome by Amanda when we arrived was topped by the welcome of homemade scones, jam and cream to go with or cup of tea - a pint of milk and bottle of wine was waiting for us in the fridge. The best nights sleep away we've had in a long while - the mattress was soo comfortable. All in all a perfect place to stay. Beautiful scenery surrounds you. A visit to Ross on Wye, Goodrich Castle are a must. We would highly recommend this property to everyone.

DELIGHT AT ACORN COTTAGE

On a scale of one to five stars our stay at Acorn Cottage should be graded a six. Amanda and Derek could not have been more welcoming, going well above what one might expect, and the accommodation was absolutely splendid. It was scrupulously clean, beautifully presented, and lacked for absolutely nothing in the way of fixtures and appliances to make the stay comfortable and enjoyable. We recommend our hosts and the cottage to anybody.

We arrived at the cottage and were immediately welcomed by Amanda. Made us feel very comfortable, took us on a tour of the cottage we were staying in and made sure we knew where everything was and how it worked etc! Our first day there, we had fresh warm bread delivered to us in the morning, went very well with the homemade marmalade they had given us! The whole cottage was immaculate and very clean. It was like walking into a home! It was a very joyous experience and a perfect holiday for me and my partners 1st anniversary. We will definitely be returning next year for our next anniversary if not sooner! Thank you again Amanda & Derek. You really have the perfect holiday getaway!!

About the host

We are originally from Kent. We saw this amazing property, then managed to buy it! We absolutely love it here. We have always worked with people and really enjoy meeting our guests and doing our best to make sure their stay is what they want it to be. We are both practical people and enjoy crafts, socializing and sports.

Why they chose this property

We love that Little Howle Farm is so calm and peaceful. It's great to be by the river with people, or in town in a busy pub, then home to our beautiful spot, with only cows and sheep for neighbours!

What makes this property unique

Everyone comments on how well the barns have been converted and to such a high standard. We have many returning guests. We don't offer hot tubs and busy bars, what we offer is somewhere to relax, reconnect with family and friends and recharge.
