Pre-Christmas family break

We had a wonderful stay at Melfort. A few days on our own, then joined by our daughters and baby grand daughter, we were cosy, warm and relaxed. The lodge was perfect, baby gates and highchair provided, and the pool lovely and warm, encouraged a swim every day! The staff are friendly and super helpful, even giving the wee one a present from Santa before she left! This was our third visit, and it definately won't be our last.

Beautiful location, excellent staff

A truly beautiful location and all staff were very friendly and informative and pointed out a number of local attractions that we would otherwise have missed. The lodge was well laid out and the kitchen had everything you could need, and the beds were very comfortable. However some of the carpets are starting to show their age and maybe consideration should be given to looking into this. Would definitely stay there again.

A haven of tranquility in a picture postcard setting. Amazing hospitality and genuinely Dog friendly

Melfort village is a very special place, the lodge had everything needed for a relaxing break, spotless and very well equipped for 6 adults and family dog. The reception team went above and beyond to meet our requests (from honey to BBQ's!) there was even a welcome pack for the dog :) We had an awesome few days, can highly recommend and can't wait to return. Charming and spacious accommodations for getting away from it all

This place is amazing. It's beautiful and quaint. The lodge we stayed in had 3 bedrooms and a fold out sofa, 2 bathrooms, a gorgeous huge kitchen and lots of place to sit outside. Very comfy beds and extraordinarily fluffy towels. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to check out the pool or gym. There are lovely walks to go on around the property. We were a family group of 7, and this was perfect. One slight issue was check in. The office closes at 5 pm and we arrived shortly after that. There was a notice on the office door about where to obtain the keys. They were in a coded safe around the corner, but we couldn't find the code. There was no answer at the phone number on the notice. We asked at the restaurant next door and the waitress gave us what other customers had told her the number is. It worked, and we got into our lodge easily. The kitchen was very well equipped with plenty of plates and pots and pans, and it's size and beauty actually made me want to cook. A suggestion for improvement would be to supply basic condiments such as cooking oil, ketchup, mayonnaise, some common spices. As tourists from outside the country having to buy even small packets of these that won't get used up is wasteful. This property is fantastic is you are looking for tranquility. I would love to come back for a writing retreat. I knew it was 16 miles outside of Oban, but do consider that it is a 30-35 minute drive from Oban, some of it on single track roads. It was a challenge to get everyone out the door for an early tour from Oban. That said, there would be no comparable experience staying in Oban.

Short family break

Nice people, beautiful area, comfy and clean accommodation, great facilities. Several local walks mapped out we did the dam one which was very atmospheric in damp misty conditions. Only stayed three nights, but will come back to explore more.

Amazing and comfortable break away

We had a lovely and relaxing 4 day break away. Lodge superbly equipped, everything you could need or want and reception staff happy to answer any questions. Enjoyed the warm swimming facilities and massage. Great dog walking straight from our front door. We will be back again as soon as we can. Thank you.

Delightful peaceful resort, with lovely cottages and plenty of activities for those who wished.

We had a beautiful cottage containing every possible piece of equipment one might need, from comfortable furniture to logs, crockery, pots and pans, fridge, freezer, dishwasher etc. The lounge had a lovely picture window looking out on the green paddock and trees. Bedrooms were spacious, one with large double bed, and two with twin beds. Plenty of wardrobe space. Wonderful walk-in power shower en suite for the double room, and shared bath with shower for the twin rooms. Car was parked at the front door, which was close to reception, and the back door opened onto a large lawn with two picnic tables - perfect for our dog. He enjoyed picturesque walks round the well-kept grounds and beside the river, whilst keeping his feet clean on the paved internal road. Evening meals were enjoyed in the Shower of Herring on site - no worry about who was going to drive home! Delicious food, lovely friendly staff and charming decor. Staff at the village were very welcoming and helpful, ready to chat when they had time and keen to make our stay enjoyable. It certainly was!

Totally recommended

Even though we had to make a late check in, the stuff was really helpful providing detailed information on how to get there and where to find our key and a map designating our lodge in the area. The facilities were satisfactory although we didn't make full use of them because there are plenty sites worth visiting around the area. The only complaint we would have is that in the morning prior to our check out there was no hot water in the lodge. I understand that this is due to the power charging cost policy of the place, but nevertheless... Apart from that everything was nearly perfect. We are sure to spend some more time in our future vacations there.

Melfort Village in the rain

This was our first visit and we found the accommodation to be good if dated and in need of a good clean re the lounge suite. It rained every day which meant we had to use the onsite facilities more than we usually would, this highlighted the restrictive nature of a pool too small to accommodate the number of guests wanting to use it. This was also true of the onsite restaurant. We had to travel out to get a meal. The staff however were very friendly and helpful.

A Super Start to Summer

An ideal location for a family break with 3 generations. Lots for our child to do in a safe environment. Beautiful views and perfect location for walks and relaxation. Main living areas of house were lovely and well resourced. Main bedroom lovely; other bedrooms were adequate. Swimming pool and restaurant were both super additions to the village. Our first time visiting; we hope it won't be our last.

Lovely winter break.

As owners of two separate weeks we are never disappointed in our stay. We hope the Shower of Herring will prosper as it is very important to have a good restaurant on site. Kat was charming but some refinements are required in due course ie. no need for sauce bottles on every table!

We enjoyed our stay very much, despite poor weather. Melfort compared favourably with last year's foray into self catering in another part of teh Highlands. We appreciated but did not make use of the various Xmas based activities for children before and after Xmas day.
