About this property

Walled Garden Mews 5 - a mews cottage that sleeps 6 guests in 2 bedrooms

Set in a secluded sunny corner, the Walled Garden Cottages are within the walls of the old Melfort Estate walled garden and approximately 500 yards from the Inner Village.

The Walled Garden has 10 “mews style” two-bedroom cottages and one two-bedroom first floor apartment with each cottage enjoying views over the beautiful gardens and overlooking Loch Melfort to the South . There are plenty of car parking spaces at the rear of the building, with car parking for visitors provided immediately outside the garden entrance. A small leisure area is situated in the centre of the building which houses a sauna and games room with table tennis, snooker and darts – there is also a small laundry, public phone and communal deep freeze.

Entrance to each cottage is at the rear of the building, through the hall which has a drying/coat storage area. Leading from the hall is the open-plan sitting room, dining area and kitchen, shower room with large walk-in shower, and the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Stairs lead to the mezzanine balcony/games, sleeping area and first floor twin bedroom.

Each cottage has its own private patio opening from the dining area, and onto the communal gardens.

Great autumnal break for us and dog!

We booked it the week before and got a good deal and our hopes were rewarded with a lovely short break holiday. We chose it because of the pool and because it is pet friendly. Subsequently our daughter enjoyed the former and our spaniel enjoyed the latter! We enjoyed being away from the main centre as it gave us an opportunity to have a nice autumnal walk to and from the pool and facilities.

A nice property in a delightful location

We had a lovely time during our stay at the Walled Gardens which is ideally set up for families with the outdoor area all contained meaning children are visible at all times while playing outside. It is set in a beautiful location, views from the outdoor seating area were very pleasing. Staff on reception were incredibly friendly and very helpful both with regards to Melfort and equally with things to do in the local area. The property itself was fine, comfortable if a little tired and perhaps a little extra cleaning would have helped in places like the velux windows which were full of cobwebs - also those above the mezzanine had no blinds so our daughter was woken early every morning by sunlight beaming through them. It was well equipped with all necessary kitchenware and good quality crockery though don’t forget to bring your own dishwasher tablets. The games rooms contained pool & table tennis tables and multiple jigsaws and the swimming pool area was great though it is worth noting there is an enforced maximum capacity of about 15 people which meant it was never overcrowded but we did witness some families being turned away. Despite these minor foibles we would happily return and enjoy what was a good value for money holiday. Worth noting that the individual properties don’t have Wi-Fi but if you are next to the games room (in walled gardens 5 & 6) you can pick up on the Wi-Fi there which was a pretty reasonable speed!

Lovely place, well equipped accommodation

We enjoyed our stay at walled garden. The accommodation is situated at a quiet location and is well equipped. There are numerous interesting things to do or to see in the beautiful part of Scotland.

An excellent base for exploring the area.

Melfort was an excellent base for exploring this beautiful part of the world. The cottage was very well equipped and staff very helpful ,welcoming and dog friendly ( especially Olwynn). Good walking and stunning scenery on the doorstep. My only quibble was the fact that it isn't made very clear until after booking that electricity is charged extra .

Another fantastic week at Melfort!

I first came to Melfort as a toddler and am now bringing my own children here. Wonderful location, great accommodation, very friendly staff and excellent facilities - a real haven and a great family holiday. We had another fabulous week here this year and are already looking forward to our next visit.

Heaven!

I can only decsribe Melfort village as utterly delightful. I have never known such helpfull staff and the standard of cleanliness as excellent. Our lodge was well equipped with high quality products and the beds and bedding first class. The area has so much to offer we only just scratched the surface, but we packed loads in during our stay. We have been before and have every intention of coming back. In brief, we saw otters in the loch, beavers - yes beavers on a wildlife project nearby and a couple of red squirrels. This has ignited our passion for wildlife watching and the area will not disappoint!

Great Cottage

First time I had stayed at property in Walled Garden as did a swap with my normal Melfort week. Thought cottage was great plenty of room for 5 plus dog. Only comment would be that 2 extra dinning table chairs would be useful, only 4 round table. Also high level cleaning needs to be looked at, large cobwebs near sky light. Plenty of facilities on site to keep everyone happy, pool, playground and mini golf, also beauty treatment available a couple of days and kayaking very close by. Liked the provision of dog blanket, towel, bowls, toy and poo bags! All in all a very enjoyable stay.

Scottish happiness

We had a wonderful week at Melfort Village. It is hard to fault the place. Fabulous location, wonderfully helpful staff and useful facilities. What is not to like? The Village is very dog-friendly and there is plenty for young children to do. We would happily return again.

A secret gem on the west coast

We had a lovely family break at Melfort Village. The walled garden is beautiful and a sociable space whilst still providing lots of privacy. Kids especially loved the games rooms and swimming pool. The staff were very helpful at giving advice on where to visit, walk the dog and shop. All in all a fabulous place and we can’t wait to return.

Bit dated but otherwise magical

We stayed for a long weekend July 2018. The location is breathtaking. The apartments are very comfortable with everything you could possibly need. The apartment was very well laid out with 2 bathrooms for 2 bedrooms. I have never seen such a well stocked kitchen in holiday accommodation. Staff lovely and friendly as were most of the guests we talked to - some of whom were returning over 20 years (I get why). Monday evening entertainment including sing along which was a surprise. We missed dinner in Oban; arriving back at 9.45pm. The lovely lady in the restaurant made sure we all were fed - hot meals! The only downside I could see (and to be clear the accommodation was very comfy) was that the furnishings could be brought up to date a bit. Wee bit dated. Otherwise magical!

Peaceful

Been coming to Melfort for over 20 years Children are now older and the quiet of Melfort not so much their thing now. We enjoyed our four nights at the Walled Garden and my husband and I will continue to come back.

Well laid-out resort in a great location.

We stayed in a very nice unit with a view down to the loch. The site layout is very good - lots of space and privacy. Melfort is situated in a very beautiful part of Scotland and, considering it was late January, the weather was better than expected. Great for those who enjoy walking. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will probably return.
