A warm welcome

Monks Thatch is a charming cottage in a peaceful location. Otterton is lovely with good bus services to Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Sidmouth.

We have stayed at Monks Thatch cottage 7 times over the past 12 years and we absolutely love it there. It is situated in the centre of the most beautiful part of Devon and near to the Jurassic coastal path. It is also very close to Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth. The latter, in particular, is an unspoilt town with beautiful red cliffs surrounding the beach. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

A lovely thatched cottage in large landscaped grounds near to the sea, the Devon coastal path and surrounded by great scenery. It has one family bathroom and would suit a couple with up to 2 children or two couple who are happy to share a bathroom. We enjoyed a splendid week there and will be returning next year. This lovely, comfortable cottage annexe, attached to the owners’ house is in a tranquil setting and has great access to wonderful and scenic coastal walks. The owner is very welcoming and helpful and not only were we supplied with a few basic provisions on arrival but were also greeted with fresh flowers from the garden and chocolate in the lounge area - a lovely gesture. Be mindful that there is an additional charge at the end of your stay for electricity and oil. Maybe this is understandable as, in our opinion, the cottage is somewhat fuel hungry. This aside, we very much enjoyed our stay there. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

Beautiful Thatched cottage in a very quiet location.

Beautiful Thatched cottage in a very quiet location. A beautiful garden and such a lovely lady who welcomed us from day 1. Went the extra mile. So close to beaches, village with a community shop and gardens. Not too far from minature steam trains and Trams.

A very nice cottage in a good location

We very much enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The thatched roof gives the cottage an old world charm, but inside it's actually quite modern. It is bright and airy, as well as warm on the cool spring nights. It also had a dishwasher, so no washing dishes while on holiday. The host supplied the linen and even left supplies including bread from the local bakery, local farm butter, a fruit bowl and dog biscuits! The location is very good. It's just a few minutes from the costal path. It's also just 10 to 15 minute walk to the local village. The village has a very nice, dog friendly, pub serving beef from the farms just up the road. It also has a very a very nice cafe that serves great cream teas. We had a great time at the cottage and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Fantastic family holiday place.

Fantastic family holiday place. If you love a cosy family place, near the sea, in great grounds then this is the place for you. you could argue it needs a little of modernising, but had everything that was needed.

This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful location.

This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful location. The owner is friendly and helpful. If you want perfection in terms of power showers and up to date kitchenware this cottage is not for you. However, if you want lots of lovely thoughtful touches like flowers, cake, jam and little thoughtful touches such as tissues and excellent storage in the bathroom, bedroom, sitting room and kitchen you will love it. We found it more comfortable than other more newly modernised cottages because the small details like good lighting by the bed and convenient power sockets added to our comfort. There is no specific garden area designated to the cottage, but our dog was able to go out into the garden alone without mishap. The garden is a delight. In March the wild primroses and clusters of daffodils cheered us up and the frequent visits from garden birds added to our enjoyment. The sea view is obscured by trees, but without that shelter the garden would not be possible. The views over the countryside around the cottage are stunning.
