Peace and quiet was what we were after and it's what we got.

Peace and quiet was what we were after and it's what we got. The cottage was a home from home, there a few upgrades that are needed but these have had to be put on hold at the moment due to covid and I am sure will be carried out as soon as this is possible. It is long time since I have been able to see so many stars due to the lack of light pollution, worth braving the cold evenings and having a look. Would definitely go back. Cottage can not be seen from local country roads and accessed (currently) via half mile dirt track full of holes. Overall, cottage was fairly clean and warm. all the usual kitchen appliances available and worked. Some signs of ageing around the place, bathroom showed signs of water leakage from shower tray, stains on floor protection mats. I would visit again. We felt very welcome.

We felt very welcome. The cottage was beautifully laid out, cosy and very comfortable. There was nothing further we needed, it was so well equipped. The easy to use washing machine was a great boon as this was a second holiday week. Access to wonderful places and lovely to come back to our home for the week. Great location for cycling to Wigtown and various standing stones and the like that are nearby. It’s a lovely area with plenty to do if you like the outdoors, mountains and coastline to explore. And you have all the bookshops in Wigtown to visit too.

There is so much to do that we couldn't do a fraction of it in a week, so we will certainly visit the area again. The Galloway hills offer plenty of hill walking while the coast walks are gentler but with spectacular views. There are many splendid gardens to visit and several castles and tower houses. Due to the seclusion of the cottage, nearby facilities are limited but there are shops in Newton Stewart and several cafes, pubs etc within driving distance.
