Glebe Farm Cottage is a wonderfully converted 1850s farmhouse with a fabulous garden, patio and barbecue area where you can sit out and relax after a day spent exploring this fantastic North Yorkshire location. The living/dining room has a welcoming wood burner, and the spacious second living room has an open fire. The large country kitchen is equipped with all mod cons, as well as a homely Aga (available November - April). The cottage lies on an arable farm and is surrounded by miles of unspoilt countryside, yet is just 8 miles from the bustling market town of Northallerton and prospering town of Yarm. There are fantastic countryside views in all directions, and if you fancy pampering yourself, there is an exclusive spa behind the cottage set back in the grounds (open Tues-Sat, treatments to be booked in advance).
This is a great location for visiting both the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, with local walking routes on your doorstep and many amazing places to visit just a short drive away. The medieval market town of Richmond is where you will find the bustling market square with a regular farmers’ market and many cafés, bars and restaurants to choose from, as well as regular live music in the pubs. Take a stroll around the castle, wander down by the River Swale to Easby with its abbey, or choose one of the many walking tracks in the area, including the Coast to Coast walk and the Pennine Way.
Just 8 miles away is ‘Herriot Country’, which takes its name from the famous local vet, James Herriot. It is, in its own right, a most charming region with rolling hills, picturesque valleys and rich pastureland. Northallerton has, like many towns and villages in the area, a rich heritage that stretches back to medieval times. The Church of All Saints dates back to 1120 and the Fleece Inn, one of the oldest pubs in town, was the place where Charles Dickens stayed in the 1800s. With access to the A1 and A66 within 30 minutes, you are perfectly located to visit everywhere from Country Durham, with its cathedrals and riverside restaurants and bars, to the walled city of York and Thirsk. Flamingo Land and Beamish Museum make good days out, as does a trip to the Lake District. Beach 14 miles. Shop and pub 2 miles, restaurant 4 miles.
