The delightful detached cottage of Bryntrisant is believed to date back to the 1840’s. Census records indicate that the cottage was originally occupied by a Cornish tin miner and his family, who almost certainly moved to the area to use his skills in the local lead mines. Later that decade the cottage became a little shop, and the resident family were also registered as weavers. Today the cottage has been lovingly and carefully restored to enhance the traditional features of exposed stone walls, and an amazing fireplace with a wood burner set into it. The spacious and very comfortable open plan living space has delightful views across the fields towards the hills of the Cambrians, and upstairs there are two delightful bedrooms with equally lovely views and a contemporary shower room with a rain head shower.
Accessed through a handy boot room with separate toilet off, is the lovely enclosed garden with benches and patio furniture. Here you can while away a few hours with a drink in one hand and a pair of binoculars in the other, watching the red kites and buzzards as they soar in the sky. The Bwlch Nant Yr Arian Forest Visitor Centre is a few miles away and has a daily feeding programme for the red kites, and is well worth a visit for the spectacle of more than a 100 birds coming in to feed. The cottage is just a short drive from the seaside town of Aberystwyth, and perfectly situated for exploring the Ceredigion coastline or the Cambrian Mountains. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the abundance of walking, cycling, mountain biking, birdwatching and fishing opportunities in the area. Close by to Bryntrisant is the Hafod Estate; a vast forested landscape with a number of well signposted walks graded by length and ease, with plenty of parking available. There is plenty of cycling to enjoy nearby with the Ystwyth Trail to Tregaron, the Rheidol Cycleway to Devil’s Bridge and Lon Cambria across the width of Wales (part of the National Cycle Route 81) and you can store your bikes in a shed provided at the property.
The little village of Devil’s Bridge is 2 miles away, and has a reputation across the world for its stunning waterfalls. You can take the steep staircase to the base of the falls (known as Jacob’s Ladder); the effort will reward you with the most amazing sight. You can also buy some useful day to day essentials from the café, or if you travel further on to Pontwerwyd there are local supplies and a cash point at the petrol station. The Vale of Rheidol steam train also departs from Devil’s Bridge and meanders through the gorgeous countryside to Aberystwyth. Here you can take another form of transport; the electric cliff railway at the end of the promenade, which will take you up to the summit at Constitution Hill and reward you with another stunning view out across the whole of Cardigan Bay. Make sure you take the time to enjoy a coffee or an ice cream here! When you have finished exploring each day return to Bryntrisant with its cosy comfort, light the fire, open a bottle of wine and relax! Beach 10½ miles. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

Beautiful

We loved the cottage. It was cosy, clean and had everything we needed. A great location for walks and to get away from it all. We will be going again.
