High Bank cottage is a wonderfully spacious property which can be found in the delightful village of Bunbury, on the western edge of the Cheshire Plain. Most famous as the back drop to the ITV series ‘Home Fires’, the pretty village is deemed ‘Quintessentially British’, and landmarks such as St Boniface’s Church and the local pub which stood in for the Doctors surgery, are easily recognisable. The butcher’s shop has unfortunately closed but is now a coffee & tea shop called the SHEDS next to the well-stocked Co-op general store opposite, we are very lucky to have three very good welcoming pubs all serving good food, another café Tilley’s and a fish and chip shop, all in in walking distance.
For those wanting to explore the great outdoors, you can walk to Sadlers Wells Wood, Bunbury Watermill or take a stroll down to Bunbury Staircase Locks on the Shropshire Union Canal. The nearby larger village of Tarporley is just a 10-minute drive, and is home to a number of pubs and eateries together with a good variety of shops. The popular market town of Nantwich is around 15 minutes and the wonderful historic city of Chester around half an hour. There is a whole host of superb local attractions such as the Sandstone Trail which you can pick up in Tarporley, and was voted one of Julia Bradbury’s and Ore Oduba’s ‘Top 100 Walks’. The castles of Beeston (English Heritage) and Cholmondeley are both within a 10-minute drive, and Delamere Forest can be reached in around 20 minutes, offering outdoor concerts and more great walking and cycle trails.
Chester Zoo, the Blue Planet Aquarium and Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet can all be reached in 40 minutes and the cities of Liverpool and Manchester area both accessible within an hour or so. The North Wales coastline is about an hour away, making this a superb base to either simply relax and unwind or explore the many wonders of the surrounding area.
