The Coach House @ The Old Rectory is perfect for a romantic getaway for couples, lying in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Blackdown Hills, between Chard in the south and Taunton in the north. Formerly an Edwardian Coaching House built to house the horses of Reverend Lance in 1905 and set in the grounds of The Old Rectory and the owner’s home. It has been lovingly restored into a cosy two bedroomed cottage. It is stylish, with many original features retained, yet it offers all the modern creature comforts, such as a well-equipped kitchen with granite worktops, and a lovely raised mezzanine living area which resembles an original horse loose box and accommodates the original hay and water feeder. You can relax in style in one of the beautiful roll-top baths that both bedrooms boast. When not enjoying the beautiful cottage, countryside and surroundings, this location is ideal for walking or simply taking in the wildlife and scenery, with much to enjoy within easy driving. There are many historic houses in the area, such as Montacute House and Gardens, Forde Abbey and Gardens, Barrington Court and Hestercombe Gardens, or, guests can drive to Glastonbury Tor for an exhilarating walk to the top with some magnificent views of Somerset, perhaps calling in at The Clarkes Factory Village, Wells Cathedral and Palace. The Quantocks and Exmoor National Park are within easy driving and for a trip back in time, travel from Taunton along the West Somerset Steam Railway to Minehead. Going south, visit West Dorset and Devon, maybe spending a day or two exploring the World Heritage Jurassic coastal resorts of Sidmouth, Seaton and Lyme Regis. The county town of Taunton is also well worth a visit, with its many shops, restaurants and places of interest. Beach 15 miles. Shop 6 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
