DESCRIPTION OF THIS COTTAGE

WELCOME TO ONE OF CARMEL'S MOST CHARMING GETAWAYS. Built in the 1920’s, this fully updated, two-bedroom, two-bath, casually refined cottage sits on a rare oversized lot, secluded from the bustle of town yet only three blocks from the main thoroughfare of Ocean Avenue with its myriad of restaurants, galleries and tasting rooms. It exudes a feeling of barefoot luxury in every detail.

You’ll know you’ve arrived when you spot the heritage oak trees that shroud the property. Parking is no problem on this quiet street as this cottage has its own dedicated parking spaces. Step outside onto the treehouse-like back deck with your first coffee of the day and only birdsong will greet you.

When this cottage came into my life - I’m only its second owner ever and I don’t take that responsibility lightly! - I knew I wanted to keep its 1920’s charm. But I also recognized that modern life has its perks.

So you’ll find original pine plank floors, wavy paned windows, custom fireplace with stone quarried right here in Carmel, a special clawfoot soaking tub, and a dash of charismatic patina. But fear not - you’ll also find every modern amenity you could imagine - a Nespresso machine, free WiFi (at business-class speeds), flatscreen HDTV with Xfinity voice command, a digital music library of more than 75M songs, as well as over 8,000 streaming yoga, meditation, healing, spiritual, and personal development programs. A well stocked laundry room with full-size washer and dryer are located inside the cottage.

Two bedrooms each have their own king-size bed wrapped in luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets. No expense was spared for these indulgent beds topped with dreamy Belgian linen duvets and pillow shams. Sink in at bedtime after a long day at the beach...or at nap-time after that extra glass of wine.

Both king beds can be separated into two XL Twins upon request. Two full baths allow for easy getaways for up to four guests.

The kitchen is equipped for serious cooking, with modern appliances, cookware, and well-stocked cabinets. Everything you need to prepare home made meals is likely on-hand (and if it's not, let me know!). Prefer an outdoor feast under the trees? Make your way to the gas BBQ and 6-person outdoor teak dining table on the deck.

YOU CAN BOOK THE STUDIO COTTAGE NEXT DOOR, TOO

If you have more than four guests (or seek extra privacy or a workspace), you can also rent the separate, detached guest cottage on the lot next door to sleep two more. Fences and trees mean no sight-lines between the two cottages. A private, secluded path takes you to the studio cottage next door, which includes its own kitchen, bath and king-size bed.

PRIME LOCATION & WALKABILITY SCORE, A PERFECT 10

Just steps from town and beach, a car isn’t necessary to explore the best of Carmel from this cottage. We’re located near the center of town but away from traffic and bustle. We’re located on a flat, easily walkable street (many other cottages in Carmel require some hill climbing so be sure to inquire at other properties whether that's the case!). Within a couple of blocks you’ll discover some of the finest restaurants, wine tasting rooms, art galleries, and boutique shopping in all of California. And of course, the white sands of beautiful Carmel Beach.

But if you do bring a car, some wonderful scenic drives await.

You’re just a mile from world-famous golf courses in Pebble Beach and five minutes from Carmel Valley’s vineyards, resorts and spas. A ten-minute drive takes you to Monterey and Cannery Row and the world renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium.

One of the most stunning coastlines in America - Point Lobos State Park - is just a 10-minute drive away. Here you will spot rugged rocks and inlets with seals sunning and occasionally whales spouting in the distance. Heaven on earth.

Or travel a bit further. It’s under an hour (35 miles) to Big Sur for hiking and my personal favorite spot for hearty breakfasts and omelets, Deetjen's Inn - a log cabin restaurant centered around a big, cozy fireplace.

IDYLLIC GARDENS AND GROUNDS

Enter the gate to your cottage and you’ll be transported into a lush sanctuary filled with sounds of babbling fountains and birdsong. Hummingbirds explore the gardens daily, attracted by flowering jasmine, lavender, sage, and bougainvillea.

Follow a meandering gravel pathway through the garden past ferns, succulents, and wild lilac. In addition to heritage oaks and pine trees, you’ll find over a dozen newly planted trees throughout the gardens, including a variety of Japanese Maples, Smoke Tree, Western Redbud, and Cypress.

At one end of the property lies a romantic swing bench perched beneath a beautiful arbor - a perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee or an evening glass of wine.
