About this property

Kinsey's Beach Shack- Perfect getaway for two!

The North Captiva Fish Camp is located on the peninsula of the island nestled between Safety Harbor and Pine Island Sound. It is accessible by private boat or commercial charter from Pineland marina. It was built around 1900 and has been owned and cherished by the Kinsey Family since 1962. It survived four major hurricanes and numerous tropical storms. Surrounded by white, shell beaches this house has its own private deep-water dock that's steps away from the front door, perfect for large boats and fishing in safety harbor. A cozy get-away designed for two to four people, it features full kitchen, remodeled bath, air conditioning throughout and two wide porches with rocking chairs that look over the beach. There simply is nothing else like it.

Here is a list of questions we are frequently asked plus a few tips to keep in mind during your stay. We hope you find this information useful.

Q. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET ACROSS TO THE ISLAND?
A. BRING YOUR OWN BOAT - If you are traveling with your OWN boat you can pay, launch and park your vehicle at Pineland marina.
BOAT RENTALS - There are several vendors who offer boat rentals. These are some our past guests have used with good results:
• Boats and Fun - Located on North Captiva, they advertise canoe and kayak rentals as well.
• Monroe Canal Marina – Boat Rentals
• Pineland Marina
WATER TAXI - There is also a safe, reliable water taxi that leaves from Pineland Marina. They have a staff of experienced, licensed captains. The boat ride from the marina to the island takes about 20 to 40 minutes depending on the tides. Contact them for hours and availability:
• Island Girl Charters , Bokeelia, FL

Q. ARE GOLF CARTS AVAILABLE ON THE ISLAND?
A. We're glad to say there are no cars on North Captiva Island.! Yes, golf carts are a great way to travel and explore. For pricing and reservations:
• Boats and Fun - Located on North Captiva, they advertise canoe and kayak rentals as well.

Q. IS THERE WIFI AT THE HOUSE AND WILL I GET RECEPTION ON MY CELL?
A. No, we do not have WIFI at either house. I use my personal hotspot when I’m out there if I need to get onto my computer. Yes, you get cell reception on the island.

Q. IS THERE A GROCERY STORE ON THE ISLAND?
A. No. There is however, a small island “general store” called Mango’s. It is great for the “forgotten item” but not to be used as a full grocery store. We strongly encourage you to bring your own groceries (packed in plastic bags) and water. There are grocery stores on Pine Island Road, which is en route to Pineland Marina: (Publix, Walmart & Target).

Q. ARE THERE ANY RESTAURANTS ON THE ISLAND?
A. Yes. Barnacles is open for lunch and dinner, serving good island fare plus beer and wine. Mango’s has a pool side bar serving limited bar menu plus drinks. If you feel like exploring, there are waterfront restaurants on nearby islands, accessible by boat.

Q. IS THE WATER ON THE POINT SAFE?
A. Yes. However, it is chlorinated well water. We suggest bottled water for drinking, and tap water for cooking and bathing. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND YOU WILL BE STAYING ON A BARRIER ISLAND. Water comes at a premium; keep you usage to a minimum to avoid problems with the water system staying up with demand.

Q. ARE THERE BIKE, KAYAK AND CANOE RENTALS?
A. Yes. Please call for reservations and pricing information:
• Boats and Fun - Located on North Captiva and advertises canoe and kayak rentals.

Q. ARE LINENS INCLUDED?
A. Yes. Bed linens, bath and beach towels are provided.

Q. IS THERE A BBQ GRILL ON THE PROPERTY?
A. Yes, both properties have a park style charcoal grill. Bring charcoal if you wish to grill out.

Q. ARE WASHER AND DRYER ALVAILABLE?
A. No

Q. WHAT DO WE DO WITH OUR GARBAGE?
A. There are two large trash cans for the Point House and one large trash can for the Fish Camp. REMEMBER... ALL TRASH MUST BE BARGED OFF THE ISLAND! Garbage should be secured in plastic bags before depositing in the garbage cans. Crush drink containers and break down boxes to avoid additional charges for garbage. Any garbage left outside the cans will cost you $10.00 per bag! Make sure can lids are secure so the local critters don't make a mess.

Q. IS THERE A FISH CLEANING STATION?
A. No.

Q. WHAT IS PROVIDED IN THE KITCHEN?
A. We try to keep the kitchen fully stocked with everything guests will need...wine glasses, knives, pots, pans, china etc. If you notice something we've missed, let us know. Also, help us out by not removing items from the house.

Q. WHAT DO I DO IN AN EMERGENCY?
A. Dial 911. There is a manned fire station on the island to respond to calls. The local phone numbers will be provided at check in.

Q. ARE BEACH CHAIRS PROVIDED?
A. Yes. There are chairs in the deck box on the front porch.

Q. HOW’S THE FISHING?
A. Amazing! You can fish right outside your front door.

Additional Notes:
We are on a septic system:
PLEASE!! DO NOT DUMP COOKING/FRY OIL OR BACON DRIPPINGS DOWN THE DRAINS! JARS ARE PROVIDED TO DISPOSE OF SUCH ITEMS. IT'S A NASTY JOB TO REMOVE FOREIGN OBJECTS FROM THE SEPTIC TANK! ALL FEMININE HYGIENE PRODUCTS MUST BE DISPOSED OF IN THE TRASH.

Enjoy your stay- We promise you'll never find anywhere like it again!

Nice quiet getaway. Has a couple of restaurants on the island. Hosts are very polite and responsive and the beach shack was very clean and has everything you need for a few nights. We will definitely be visiting again.

Sweet get away

This beach shack has everything you need to get away from the busyness of life. It was a wonderful place for the two of us to reconnect and relax for a week. It is decorated with beach decor and very clean. The owner answered all of our questions in a timely manner and was very thorough. We will definitely return to this secluded hideaway!

Absolutely loved this place!

We had a wonderful stay with our family of five. It’s small but perfectly cozy. I had small cots for our 3 kids (6 and under) and that worked out very well. We will definitely be back and highly recommend!

Sugar shack

The place was absolutely wonderful and charming. Way more beautiful than the 4, 5 stories places. This will be an annual bi annual visit. If i had anything to Critique a air fryer would be a great addition.

Amazing Beach Stay!

We had an amazing time at Kinsey’s Beach Shack. It was an ideal location: tucked away and private. Right outside the door is the water, which is ideal for relaxing by the water or adventuring along the beach. The interior was very clean, bright, and comfortable. The bed was perfect. All we have are great things to say about the beach shack and our time there. When we come back to North Captiva we would definitely stay there again!

The juice is worth the squeeze.

It's no easy feat to make it and coordinate logistics of traveling to, departing from, and staying in the island, but boy is it worth it. This tiny old fish shack is affords a rare opportunity for a small family to enjoy all that this amazing island has to offer. We were so happy to see the island in full restoration mode after hurricane Ian!

Thanksgiving Getaway Success

After staying for a few nights in 2019 and falling in love with this place … we finally made it back for a return visit and stayed the entire week of Thanksgiving! The location and seclusion was just as wonderful as we remembered. So glad the shack survived Ian. Ashton was quick to send assistance for the only issue we ran into. Thanks!!! Hope to be back again sooner than later.

Adorable property.

Adorable property, decorated very nicely. Gorgeous view on a remote island. Our only complaint was it smelled like fried fish and the palmetto bugs were horrible at night in the shack. We killed at least 10 each night.

Simple & Serene

Our fifth time to this special little island and first time on The Point. Hurricane Ian hit hard last year and clean up still continues 6 mos later with numerous home repairs, significant debris pile removal and waterfront rebuilding. Despite all, the island community has banded together working hard with a hopeful spirit. The Beach Shack is in a more remote area, yet lively boat channel activity in the sound makes it fun to watch (especially on weekends) while sitting on the shore. It was like a boat parade one day. Be sure to use their big blue canopy to create some shade, as it’s a sunny spot without any cover other than the deck table umbrella. Also know storage inside is minimal (no closet or dresser). Slim Rubbermaid tubs under the bed would be very helpful. Pack lightly as you won’t need much. Nice clean little laundry room out back. Bring flashlight and binoculars for viewing abundant nature (and bug spray). Great little kitchen with everything you need. Still suggest bottled water although there’s a Britta. You’ll need to rent a golf cart as it’s a long walk to the ocean side and also The Island poolside Bar & Grill or Over the Water cafe in Safety Harbor. Finally, bring your morning coffee to the Shack’s private pier and watch the manatee family play and feed. The three “local” dolphins may visit too. Amazing… Looking forward to returning. Thanks Ashton!

Paradise found!

If you are looking for a private location to unwind, to reconnect with nature. This is the home and location you are looking for. The cottage is well supplied with all that you will need for a extened stay. Sand, sun, private beach with warm water to swim, dolphins, meanettes, shells, sunrises, sunsets, stars galore and so, so much more...... Recommendations for a great stay: North Captivia Island is only assessalbe by walk on ferry or water taxi (leaves from pine island). We decided on a water taxi which dropped us off right on the dock that is on the property of the cottage. Taking the ferry will take you into the harbor which has a restaurant, bar, small convenience store and a boats and fun rental store where you can rent a golf cart that you can then take to the cottage. Having a golf cart will give you the availability to explore this beautiful island. Take enough groceries and water to last you entire stay ( Winn Dixie is in the town of pine island, which is close to the ferry or water taxi). This is what concerned me the most. Not olny did we have all of our luggage, but then we would have to buy enough groceries and water for a weeks stay, how the heck would we carry all this onto a boat and haul it to he cottage. This brought us to get a water taxi offered from boats and fun. This way we could be droped with all of our stuff on the dock on the property. Once we got to the property the captian of the boat helped us unload and also helped us with taking it all to the cottage. As I have stated there is a small convenience store with not much to offer. If you run out of water, small drinking bottled water is all that is offered. Last, take lots of sunscreen and bug spray! Florida has a biting bug called the no see um. Oh boy, is this ever true. You no see um. The bite is a lot like a mosquito bite. While I didn't get bit much, they loved the taste of my husband. Rumor has it that a bug spray with deet is the best to fend off these pesky no see ums. Very last, make sure to add into the expense of this trip, the cost of the taxi and or ferry. The cost of a golf cart rental ( we walked to the harbor and rented one for a couple of days). When I booked this cottage I did not account for these costs. In all the extra cost where about $800.00. But, how much are you willing to pay for paradise.....

Rustic Beachfront Paradise

Stayed at Kinsey’s Beach Shack with my husband for our first anniversary and we’re already trying to figure out when we can go back. You can’t beat the location - tucked away but right on the beach. Just secluded enough. It’s definitely not upscale but we knew what to expect so we loved it. Service on the island wasn’t great (we have Verizon) but that just meant less time on our phones! We had groceries delivered to the house so we had one less thing to worry about on the ferry. We rented a golf cart from Boats and Fun. Just the ride up to the shack was magical. We can’t wait to come back!

Awesome old Florida!

We are nature lovers and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The cottage is cute and had everything we needed. We left from pine island on island girl ferry. The crew loaded our luggage, groceries etc and unloaded when we arrived. We rented a golf cart and Jake from boats and fun was there waiting for our arrival. We loaded up and off we went. We had a wonderful stay!

A little piece of heaven!

I hesitate to share too much, because we'd rather the property and island not have more visitors, but I'd also feel guilty not sharing such an amazing spot with the world. This little shack is exactly that, just enough space for a small family. The spot on the island offers peace and tranquility of morning sunsets and all sorts of wildlife. Less than 1 mile walk to the other side of the island and your eyes are met with nothing but beautiful beach and sea green waters. Plenty of logistics to staying on a still quiet and not too developed island, but it's well worth the effort.

Dreamy little beach cottage

We fell in love with North Captiva five years back and we were so happy to come stay at this adorable little beach cottage. We kept our JetSki on the dock out back, and our golf cart in the front. It was very windy while we stayed so it was really nice to be on the calm Bayside beach. The pull out daybed worked perfect for our two young children. We look forward to visiting again soon! Thank you so much!

Just as described

My overall description of this property is relaxation at its finest. This was our 1st visit to North Captiva. My husband and I wanted something small and secluded, we found that in Kinsey's Beach Shack! Waking up every morning with the sunrise at the foot of the bed was AMAZING! We opened the blinds at night so we could see the lights across the pine island sound. We arrived by private water taxi and I am very happy I was able to be dropped off and picked up from the property deep water dock. We enjoyed a daily visit from a Herron that we named Eddie Van Herron. We saw Dolphin, Manatee, Sting ray, starfish and Turtles! We loved every minute and did not want to leave! Thank you Ashton for the opportunity of staying at this lovely "shack".
