About this property

Waterfall Cottage in sight & sound of Cane Creek Falls, 2BR 2BA

Our Waterfall Cottage is a 2BR/2BA vacation home within sight and sound of the iconic 50 ft tall Cane Creek Falls. Large screened porch, wood-burning fireplace, WiFi and more on Cane Creek. It is located in the very unique and special location inside the several hundred acre Glisson Camp and Retreat Center. There is a small enclave of privately owned cottages, which are accessible at all times. Ours is the second one downstream at the base of the falls. A large screened porch with dining table and comfortable seating area and other viewing areas will give you the sense of really being with nature as the cottage is about fifty feet from Cane Creek. Lots on either side are vacant and Falls Mountain is behind the cottage. It has two bedrooms, one with a king bed and one with a queen bed and two full baths, fireplace (operational October through March) & we supply Duraflame 3 hour logs (1 per night), free WiFi, Smart TV via Amazon Fire TV stick with YouTube TV, Hulu, Netflix & Prime Video, land-line phone with unlimited USA long distance (cell service is spotty), lower covered deck with porch swing. Breakfast is not provided, but we do provide coffee and all the basic needs for cooking. There are no dishwasher or laundry facilities. We provide camp chairs for you to take to sit by the falls. We have a BBQ and provide charcoal. Cane Creek is a designated trout stream and is now open year-round, but you must have a valid Georgia license to fish. We use the Waterfall Cottage as our own get-away when not rented and thoroughly enjoy spending time there. There are hiking trails all around the camp and maps are located on signs at the welcome center and downstream of the cottage. The falls area is rich in history as a Native American gathering place with netting holes and petroglyphs etched in the rocks by the falls. It was also the site of a very early large water wheel electric generating plant. Much of the time you will find the cottage to be a very quiet and peaceful get-away. The camp does have retreats many weekends, but the main buildings and their cabins are not located near our cottage with the exception of the Program Center, which was designed after the gold mining structures of Dahlonega’s history.

It is about 5 minutes from the Dahlonega Square.

Some things for you to consider before renting this very special cottage: 1. Strictly limited to four people maximum including children, 2. absolutely no pets, 3. absolutely no smoking anywhere either inside the cottage or outside as the camp is tobacco free, 4. the parking area is about 90 yards from the cottage – you park and then walk toward the falls and then across the foot bridge in front of the falls and then up a path 5. two night minimum with some holidays requiring 3 niights. 6. The second bedroom has private access to the second bathroom and screened porch and there is a door between that area and the master bedroom, but access from the second bedroom to the kitchen/living room is through the master bedroom, unless you go through the screened porch, to the lower deck and up the outside steps. 7. There are about 10 private cottages along the creek inside the 400 acre Methodist owned Camp Glisson Retreat Center. In 2025 from June 1st to August 1st there are youth summer camp sessions from Sunday afternoon until Friday noon. The camp owns the falls, creek and hiking trails. We ask that guests give young campers their space while enjoying the outdoors during organized activities Sunday afternoon through Friday morning during summer camp. During summer camp guests can use the immediate waterfall area anytime the young campers are not there, which happens several times a day and during meal times.Guests can see the falls from the cottage and especially from the Adirondack chair area. Camp trails are closed during summer camp, but there are many hiking trails nearby and many lead to other waterfalls. Friday afternoon through Sunday morning during summer camp there are no children in camp, only the camp counselors. So, guests are welcome to use the immediate falls area. 8. We have 2 exterior security cameras aimed at the cottage door and the lower deck. There are no interior cameras. We turn the cameras on when the cottage is vacant. We sometimes turn on the cottage door camera until guests check in so we know they have arrived safely. We then turn them off.

Beautiful property and so close to town

We loved the view of the water fall right outside the front door. The cabin was very private and just a quick ride to town. Just a note, it was a bit of a haul uphill from the parking lot to the cabin. The owners were great and easy to get in touch with.

Great Cabin right at waterfalls

Beautiful, clean, and nicely furnished cabin, right next to the waterfall made for a soothing and relaxing two-day stay. The owners are very nice and even supplied flashlights and access to the basement in case a storm during our first night would have required for us to take shelter. They also left some delicious chocolate chip muffins for us. Thank you!

Serenity

Me and wife attended a wedding the area. I found this place and loved the pictures. Once we arrived we fell in love with the place. So peaceful and the waterfalls were beautiful. We actually witnessed someone being baptized in the falls. Absolutely breathtaking. Tim was so easy to communicate with. We will definitely be returning.

Unique, beautiful place to stay

The cabin has a beautiful view of a waterfall, nestled in the woods. The cabin is beautifully decorated, the online photos are exactly as it was described. A large kids group at the nearby camp arrived on our last 2 days’ stay.. they were a noisy bunch, but luckily didn’t stay at the falls but a few hours each day. Very nice getaway.

Cool location

We brought our daughter here to celebrate her 10th birthday. She loved walking around the creek and looking at the waterfall. You can hear the waterfall from the house. The screened in porch was our favorite spot. The owners were very helpful and communicated well. We even arrived to homemade muffins in the kitchen.

Waterfall in your backyard

My 8 year old daughter refers to this beautiful property as having a “waterfall in your backyard”. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. We were secluded and yet, just steps away from other visitors to the large acre tract that hosts other guests. We felt like we had our own space. We were just a short drive to downtown Dahlonega and will definitely be back. Host was super friendly and informative and even left delicious homemade goodies!

About the host

Hosted by Tim or Dianne Quigley, owners; Don McElliott

Host profile image
Tim & Dianne Quigley owned Long Mountain Lodge B&B for 15 years, selling it in July 2021. We moved to Dahlonega in 1993 and fell in love with the town and area after living in 12 different states due to military and corporate moves. This is now home. We have three children and nine grandchildren!

Why they chose this property

We could not resist buying this property due to its amazing location.

What makes this property unique

We don't know of any property you can rent that is so close to a large waterfall with large pool below for wading & fishing and a rushing creek in front of the cottage. Deer and other wildlife abound and we have vacant wooded lots on either side. It is so quiet most of the time. Lumpkin County business license #2313.
