Janet's house and property were the ideal setting for a relaxing weekend on Lake Ontario. The space is clean and comfortable and has every convenience you'd expect, as well as some unique and creative elements. The kitchen is functional and efficient, and the dining room / sun room on the lake side features a traditional candelabra chandelier, which very much elevates the experience of meals -- lakeside by overhead candlelight doesn't get much better.
The house feels very connected with the outdoors and the lake, visible from nearly every room. Opening the windows invites the cool lake breezes into the space and also the constant sounds of the waves -- soft or strong, depending on season and weather. The rooms are spacious, charming, cozy and uncluttered.
The property feels very private and secluded, though there are neighbors close by to the east. Steps down to the lake make for easy access to the rocky shore, and the Chimney Bluffs are visible to the west. Sunsets from the property are spectacular, and the lakeside fire pit is perfect for primitive cooking and stargazing. There is also a wonderful stone grilling hearth in the side garden for more conventional grilling and outdoor cooking. The house and all of these outdoor amenities are situated on a lovely and sweeping property, with plenty of areas of shade and a variety of tree cover. The giant willow tree makes for a dramatic arrival, and the glade of under story trees at the edge of the bluff is a perfect place for a picnic.
Travelers should be aware that the well water has an odor of sulphur. No big deal. Also, be aware that the house does not have an internet connection / wi-fi. Again, no big deal if you're going to relax and recharge. Cellular reception was mostly reliable on the property.
Overall, Janet has a magical gem of a property, with the character and setting that makes for a memorable Lake Ontario experience. Highly recommended. Thank you Janet!
