Spruce Ridge Llamas
We loved our stay, although too short, at the cabin. Dan met us upon our arrival and explained everything there was to know about the cabin. The surroundings are private and peaceful and the San Isabel National Forest is a simply beautiful backdrop for the cabin.. can’t wait to come back for a longer stay next time.

Very nice secluded place that has been well cared for and kept very clean.
We really like the feeling of being in the woods. We have rented large and small places in Colorado for 23 years and we will come here again.

Beautiful place inside & out
Cabin was decorated with mountain/animal motif all very well coordinated. The setting of the cabin was ideal and the views from all the large picture windows. We really enjoyed sitting on the three decks listening to the Aspen leaves fluttering in the wind and the gurgling of the creek.

Perfect solitude
Was looking for someplace with no people, but close enough to go do things. This was it. Yes, the owners house is about 200 ft away but can hardly see it for the trees in-between. Super nice people. If your looking to get away from it all, this is it.

Amazing secluded cabin
We were lucky to stumble upon this amazing place hidden in the mountains! The cabin is surprisingly larger than the pictures show, immaculately clean and well stocked with all the necessities and no clutter. Three decks open into the valley with breathtaking views – great for having your morning coffee! The cabin is an easy 15-minute car ride from Monarch Ski Resort and the Old Monarch Pass Road. The snow was incredible! When we got home at night, the pellet stove was a quick and easy way to get warm up fast. Dan and Lillie were great hosts, truly helpful and very patient with out three kids. Overall, a wonderful experience, and we are very thankful to Dan and Lillie for sharing their place with us!

A Hidden Gem
The Spruce Ridge Cabin is a hidden gem with great views of mountains and woods. The setting is quiet and peaceful. The cabin inside and outside looks exactly like the online photos. The owner Dan was gracious and hospitable and asked if there was anything else we needed. Of course, and fortunately, we had everything we needed and everything worked perfectly. The seating and bed were very comfortable. The cabin was nicely decorated in a "cabin and lodge" style and fondly reminded me of a log house we once owned in Oregon. The location is convenient to both town and skiing at Monarch Mountain. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone wanting a place to enjoy nature while relaxing in comfort.

Friends and the wilderness
Three 76 year old friends reconnected at this Llama ranch. We were greeted by the owner who gave us a detailed tour of the house. His wife came later to instruct us in the use of the TV (did have Netflex ). Enjoyed the drive into Salida. The house was clean, well equipped (did have to look for some things, but everything was there, the sleeper sofa was actually comfortable. It was nice to have 2 bathrooms.

A Place of Peace and Rest
This was the second time I have stayed at Spruce Ridge, and it was every bit as great as the first time. I would stay here again! The property is far enough off the beaten path (three miles from a main highway), so if you want the sense of being "away from everything", this would be the place for you! The home is nestled in a mixed forest of aspens and evergreens with a creek nearby. I understand why the owners are Premier Hosts...great communication and the property is well-maintained and equipped. Thank you, Dan and Lillie, for providing such a beautiful place for peace and rest!

Nice get away
We enjoyed our stay. The cabin is close to the mai residence of the owner but is otherwise secluded. The property is great for hiking and snowshoeing and is fairly close to both Salida and Monarch ski area. There is no cell service and internet connection is spotty. Our goal was to get away, so this was not a problem.

Mountain setting
We loved this property!! When turned down the road to the property, my sister and I looked at eachother and said "dirt road?" But when we got there it was amazing and perfect for us. We liked the fact that it was not in the city and the views were gorgeous and the sound of the creek down below was very soothing. Dan the host was very informative on the property and what to do locally. Very well kept property and he checked in on us to see how the stay was and if we needed anything. We will for sure keep this property on our "visit again" list.

About the host

Hosted by Dan Jones

Host profile image
My wife and I, Dan and Lillie Jones, have lived on our 35 acre llama ranch since 1991 with llamas that are used for our llama outfitting business. We built the vacation home in 2007 to provide family, and guests like yourself a place to stay in our corner of paradise. As previous guests have said, "'your vacation home is tucked away and secluded, yet easily accessible to summer and winter recreation and is the best kept secret in Colorado."

Why they chose this property

Our vacation home is beautifully situated on a year-round creek with mountain views and access to millions of acres of year-round recreation. We have treasured our privilege to live here and to share it with others with our year-round modern guest cabin and our outfitting business.

What makes this property unique

Many folks enjoy the seclusion, our year-round creek with fishing for brook trout, seeing llamas grazing from three decks and windows, the myriad of on-site and nearby recreation, the 20 plus species of birds around our vacation home, and of course, the stunning Rocky Mountains with the greatest concentration of 14,000 foot peaks (15) in the United States.
