The Farmhouse On the Sea was a perfect place for respite. The view of the water was stunning, the location was tranquil, and there were plenty of trails and things to explore nearby. Shanta was an attentive host who clearly cares about her guest's experiences, and the house is stocked with everything you could possibly need during your getaway, from art supplies and games, to books and vinyl albums, a washer and dryer, beach supplies, adequately-stocked pantry, and a first aid kit.
This location on PEI is perfect. Close to coves and beaches and light houses. Charlottetown is only 40 minutes away. Loved exploring this part of the island.
It is a sweet accommodation-- the kitchen is outfitted with everything you need to cook great meals - a plus in the off season when most restaurants are closed.
The beds are comfy, the hot water endless.
It is so quiet, being set back from the street. A great place to unwind.
No hesitation in saying this is a great place to stay
This place is not for those who want all the amenities of a resort. It is quiet and respectful for the location and history with beautiful views of the Straits of Northumberland. Do not expect big box anything. Experience PEI as it was meant to be. Discover who you are without the digital world.
We loved our location and the home was lovely. We found everything we needed and enjoyed the beautiful view. We did day trips to explore other parts of the island and found this location a nice quiet place to come back to. We were on PEI for Hurricane Fiona and unfortunately we lost 2 days due to the storm. But I'm glad to say the house withstood the hurricane and we were will prepared. Maybe one day we will get to visit again.
House was exceptionally clean and cozy. Renovated farmhouse with open shelves in kitchen, perfectly stocked, and propane stove/toaster. Beautiful pathway down to the water cliff but be careful at edge. No close neighbours so it was a perfect quiet retreat. Excellent Harborview restaurant in Murray Harbour …about 10 minutes away. Excellent dog walking at Northumberland provincial park… About 10 minutes away.
The house is so cute and cozy. Very clean. Really fell in love with all the views. The grounds are very clean. It was really amazing holiday for all of us. Staying there was like coming home. We would like to go back next year. Please don't miss out on the opportunity to stay there.
We stayed here for 2 weeks this July and had a lovely time. The location is beautiful as it is right on the water. It is pretty remote though, there are only a few restaurants nearby and they all close early and not much else to do. But its about 30 minutes from a bigger town and an hour from Charlottetown, which we went to a few times during our stay. The house is fully stocked with everything you could need during your stay. The owner was super helpful and communicative and I really appreciated that. There was only one main issue, and that was the bugs. The mosquitos are vicious so you have to wear bug spray anytime you go outside in the summer and if you leave the door open for more than 30 seconds the mosquitos will all come inside , id suggest the owners get the area just around the house sprayed for mosquitos/ticks and whatnot just to try to keep them out of the house.
Excellent place to stay while in PEI. The owner was as good as it gets re communication. The Farmhouse by the Sea was pretty much as described. It was so very quaint with the views of the straight. The beds were very comfortable and I have enjoyed VRBO rentals for years all over and have never seen a rental so well stocked. The cleaner did an excellent job. The place was as we like our own home to be. Spotless. The area was a little isolated for the Anne things but we had done them before. A very pretty part of the island,
Thanks to Shanta we had a wonderful trip and, if we return we will certainly consider booking once again.

Farmhouse by the Sea was everything we were hoping for. It was simple and very peaceful. A great location for us to base ourselves and then explore the island.
Shanta was quick to communicate with us when needed. I highly recommended this very comfortable and relaxing get away! Loved every minute! Thank you!
This is a sweet property, well equipped (no working tv if that’s important to you), beautiful property and ocean views, path through the fields, beautiful sunsets. Very responsive and caring owner.
Clean and bright, good quality towels and linens. Loved the extras - art supplies, record player and records, books, puzzles and games. Good communication with owner, easy instructions for check in/out and routines. Idyllic location, stunning views, had everything that was needed, but the experience could have been enhanced by the addition of a toaster, microwave, hairdryer, shower in 2nd floor bathroom, more outdoor chairs (only 2 provided), and relocation of TV to living room. Highly recommended, we'd stay here again.
My family and I quickly fell in love with this house. We had fun and enjoyed all corners of this home. From the window bed and the vinyl records to the freestanding tub with an amazing view. The owner was great and gave us great recommendations. We will definately recommend this place to our friends.
Wonderful place! Cosy and well located. Our stay there was perfect!!
Shanty was very quick to answer our questions and we did not have any problem in the house! The location is perfect, near the city of Charlottetown and many nice beaches! Alot of different things to do around as discovering little hidden beaches, visiting breweries and wineries, lighthouses and many more! We highly recommend the place and the kids enjoyed the big yard to play and run with our little dog! :)
This property was very close to the ferry. The cottage is super cute inside with mostly everything you need. We enjoyed a few of the close beaches as well as ventured out a bit further. Loved being able to buy farm fresh eggs just up the road! We all had a lovely time in PEI. Thank you!!
What’s not to love. The solitude, the ocean, the wonderful cottage!

Peaceful and relaxing
We came for a getaway and were able to walk down the grass path to the ocean shore, watch the sunsets. I finished a novel and was DELIGHTED to find that art supplies are provided, so worked on a painting-- my 2 favorite things to do which i rarely have time for. My husband caught up on reports for work a little each day, and we'd enjoy a seafood dinner together. Visited several historic lighthouses and shopped and dined in Charlottetown which was about 40 minutes away.
This home is in a rural location; it was a pleasure to sit in the window seat or have a bubble bath in the clawfoot tub upstairs without any disturbances, and our stay relaxed and refreshed us so that by the end of the week we were fortified to return to normal life!
It was a week without TV, phone calls, and obligations in a quaint country home with lots of character! A memory we'll treasure.....

Beautiful property and home, peaceful and charming!
Loved this farm house and all of its charm--the art, the comfy sitting spaces, the record collection, the spacious kitchen and dining room. My five-year-old son loved playing on the swing, climbing the trees, exploring the yard, drawing on the chalkboard, and having a bubble bath in the claw-foot tub. It was a perfect home-base for our stay in PEI, and we were able to easily drive to local beaches, coffee shops, the winery down the road, lighthouses, and island attractions. The welcome package provided by the host offered great recommendations (e.g. dinner at Point Prim Chowder House was amazing and definitely a must!) and both Shanta (our host) and Debbie (the person who helps with cleaning) were easily reached by text/phone to answer our simple questions. Highly recommend this peaceful spot.

Simply beautiful!
From the serene coastal farmland setting to the out of the way, non-touristy Points East location to the comfortable and welcoming style, this place is a true PEI gem.
Such a great place to get away from it all and just enjoy the peace, beauty and freshest air. It’s easy to just stay put and relax. And with art supplies provided and a fun LP collection you can get lost in simple pleasures. Not to mention the starry sky and footed tub with an ocean view!
Exploring the local area, we found uncrowded beaches covered in shells, amazing chowder and seafood close by and some of the island’s favourite lighthouses.
This is the place to come to escape from big city madness and remember what matters.
We will come again for sure!

Calm and peaceful
We so enjoyed our stay here. The accommodations were comfy, the view of the ocean fantastic, but most importantly it was quiet. We were looking for a way to get away from everyone and this place did the trick. Far enough away for peace, but close enough to restaurants and attractions so we didn’t feel isolated. The home was clean and nicely decorated. Thank you Shanta for sharing your lovely home with us. I loved playing the old records, brought me back to my youth 💗.

Run away here
Shanta's farmhouse by the sea was the perfect getaway. A bit hard to find in the dark but I was amazed to walk into a charming and cozy house. Beautifully renovated and decorated, it could be featured in a home magazine. Shanta has thoughtfully provided everything needed for a beach vacation, baskets of towels, beach blankets, bathroom amenities, and a wonderful collection of well organized art supplies. The swath of meadow that runs down to the sea is lovely and a small fish house with deck was the perfect place to relax, read and watch the sunset over the water with a glass of wine from the nearby vineyard. The location is off the beaten path but close to several nice beaches and Murray river has a great coffee shop. Also 10 min away the ferry to Nova Scotia was a great way to return to Halifax. Cheers to shanta for sharing her wonderful home! I felt so lucky to find it. I would return and bring my family in a heartbeat.

About the host
Hosted by Shanta Schachter
Shanta and Bari bought this property in 2016 but have been renting it for years before then. Shanta fell in love with the island in 2000 and was able to buy the adjacent piece of land. She spent the next few years building the small "shack" by the ocean by hand and with the large support of the amazing community around there who would stop in to check on her progress. Since then, she's been living in Philadelphia and gets there as often as vacation schedules allow. When she met Bari and they had their son, Leo, the game changed and they needed a place that was more than glorified camping. Bari has become equally enamored. We've had friends and family and others up to enjoy this amazing piece of land and the adjacent communities. It's hard to resist. We hope you'll enjoy.
Why they chose this property
The property has an amazing history. It was built in the late 1800s and was once part of the expansive Buell homesteads. The family still resides in the area and are neighbors who have so many amazing stories about the land and the ways of the island. We would not be there without their ongoing friendships. Every year we learn more about the history of the property. It's dotted with old farm equipment; horse/human powered; the chestnut tree in the yard was planted in the 1950s to celebrate the return of a family son/soldier from the war; the remaining outbuildings were once a gardening shed and the tractor shed; the old barn was burned down after the roof fell in, which re-naturalized the plantings; you can also see the foundations of the old buildings at certain angles. Shanta's favorite thing: there is an old law that allows fisherman to access the first 20 feet of the shore to spread out their nets. And so, our neighbor has been carving a walking path along several properties so that we all have a little private "fishermans" walk.
What makes this property unique
The view is one of the best on the island. When people decide to settle here, they choose this community because of the amazing people, the various beaches (secluded or public as you choose), and the unparalleled view.
