About this property

Characterful apartment in the wing of our family's listed stone built farmhouse

‘Tudor Lee’ offers an independent wing of our family's historic farmhouse, a retreat for 2 ( + child), warm in winter, cool in summer.
It has its own entrance through a large conservatory which has a dining table for 'semi outdoor' dining and relaxing. There is a well-equipped kitchen ( ceramic hob, oven, microwave, fridge freezer, toaster, kettle, cafetiere) linked to a dining room - with windows at 3 different levels! The washing machine/dryer is in the conservatory.
The L-shaped living room, has a sofa and armchair and an entertainment centre with TV/DVD. Stairs lead up from the flag-stoned entrance hall, entering the upstairs area through glazed oak frames. The large L-shaped bedroom has a 6ft zip linked bed, which may be used as two single divans. It also has a sofa bed and extra TV /DVD
The splendid bathroom has a large 'rain head' shower, corner bath with shower over, washbasin and loo.
Set in mature gardens, there is a patio with garden furniture and a barbecue, adjacent to Tudor Lee specifically for guests, with a small walled lawn also dedicated for guests' use, providing good outdoor living space in a 'green' space sheltered by a little copse. Some visitors have seen our shy red squirrels!
Guests are welcome to explore the rest of the grounds, orchards and vegetable garden but should take care with open bridges and be aware that the family uses the front lawns, vegetable garden and orchards.
We have been welcoming visitors to Tudor Lee since 2005; many have become our friends.

Tudor Lee is a mile and a half from Yarmouth, our local town, where Wightlink Ferries arrive from Lymington, after a crossing of about 35 minutes. For those not wanting to bring a car, there is an hourly bus service.
Yarmouth is located on the western side of the Island at the mouth of the Yar estuary. The historic little town has grown as a result of its natural harbour, guarded by Yarmouth Castle, which was built by Henry VIII in 1547 The Harbour attracts international yachts and motor cruisers, whose crews take advantage of the moorings to enjoy the lively range of shops, and places to eat and drink in the town. The annual 'Old Gaffers Festival' in June sees a fleet of historic gaff rigged boats arrive and the town celebrates with music, markets and entertainments in the Square.
The picturesque narrow streets and town square are lined by flower decked shops and pubs; restaurants range from Michelin star quality through family-friendly pubs to cafes with outside tables for celebrating fine weather late into the evening, many meals having an emphasis on local produce and freshly caught fish.
Boats leave the harbour for fishing trips in the Solent and off the Needles, but for those preferring to stay in touch with shore, the listed wooden pier is a great place to go fishing, whether it be a serious quest for bass, or crabbing with the children. Pleasure boats leave for Bournemouth and Poole, and in the later summer months, ‘The Waverley’, an old paddle steamer, makes trips round the Island. Not only is the Island beautiful when your feet are on land, seeing it from the sea adds another dimension to that beauty.

Whilst there is plenty to watch from a seat on the harbour wall, gentle strolls along the Green and Promenade afford views of yachts and Solent shipping.

For the more energetic, the former railway track,‘the causeway’, along the Yar estuary, provides a delightful walk - you may be lucky enough to see one of the Island’s native red squirrels, and birdwatchers delight in the many species of birds nesting and feeding on the River Yar. Following the old railway track will lead you towards Freshwater, and perhaps lunch in a pub or café before returning on the footpath on the other bank.

Yarmouth restaurants range from star quality through family-friendly pubs to cafes with outside tables for celebrating fine weather late into the evening, many meals having an emphasis on local produce and freshly caught fish and shellfish. A small supermarket and a delicatessen provide a good range of food, much of it locally sourced.

Lovely stay in nice part of the island
We enjoyed a lovely stay here with our not quite 18 month old. Beautiful setting and lovely location on this side of the island. The house had everything we needed and was very comfortable for our stay. Jill was a great help in advance of our stay with information and booking the ferries for us. We had a lovely holiday and would stay here again.

Delightful property
The house was very well equipped including surprisingly large bedroom and bathroom. Our hosts were close by but unobtrusive so if we had had problems they were easily contactable. As it happened we didn’t. A lovely place to stay

The perfect holiday hideaway
Tudor Lee is a wonderful bolthole on the prettiest side of the island, just a few miles from Yarmouth and the coast. I stayed there with my two children, aged 9 & 11, and it was the perfect sized holiday home (small but not tiny) and also warm, comfortable and homely. Although there is only one bedroom, it is huge so sharing with the kids was not a problem. It would also make the perfect romantic hideaway for a weekend break, rain or shine. Owners Jill and Steve are welcoming and relaxed and dog Isla was a big hit with the kids. Big conservatory and beautiful garden too, which sadly we weren't able to make the most of because of the typical half-term weather! We look forward to retuning, though, Tudor Lee was a fantastic find.

The property is adjoining the farmhouse and the access and garden are not totally private. The property itself is very comfortable with a spacious bedroom and bathroom.

Quiet location
This property was ideal for us the quieter side of the island, it has all the essential ingredients for self catering; a comfortable bed & sofa/ chairs for relaxing. Everything needed for cooking , although we did treat ourselves to a couple of meals at @on the Rocks in Yarmouth. Choice of shios/ supermarkets at Freshwater for groceries etc. Easy to reach roads to other parts of the island, , Ventnor, steam train, Carisbrook, Osbourne. The trade deal for the ferry was very much appreciated as the Lymington ferry is particularly expensive but nearest to the cottage and easier fro us to reach from home. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you Jill

Wing in farmhouse
Communication with owners good. Jill and Steve arranged our ferry crossings for us which saved us the hassle of doing this. The welcome pack on arrival and the apples from the orchad later on in the week much appreciated. I would recommend having a car if staying at the property as it is a good walk into Yarmouth and back. Take a torch with you if you go out at night as no pavements as such or street lights in Wellow. Yarmouth is well worth a visit as is Osbourne House, Shanklin old village and seafront crazy golf, Godshill model village and a boat trip to the needles very good. Sandown seafront disappointing due to rundown and damaged empty hotels.

Fabulous location, well equipped and comfortable bolthole
This was a lovely home for the week. Situated on the end of a listed farmhouse, this very private self contained accomodation is lovely. comfy sitting room, well equipped kitchen, dining room, huge bedroom and great bathroom. the owners were very friendly and were happy for us to use their front garden (again private) to enjoy our sundowners and catch the last of the evening sun. We would definitely stay again

Family holiday
Jill has been fantastic from start to finish. Tudor Lee was perfect for what we needed; it suited myself, husband and 1 year old perfectly. The amenities were plentiful. The only thing we didn’t use was the conservatory as one pane of glass was shattered so didn’t want to risk sitting in there in case it fell through. Location was great, we saw most of the Island and will most definitely be back. Thank you Jill :-)

Perfect couples retreat in wing of listed farmhouse
The owners have gone to great lengths to ensure Tudor Lee is Covid safe. They are their family were immediately welcoming and the addition of fresh bread, milk, eggs and butter as well as fruit and garden flowers made us feel right at home. Although on a working farm the accommodation is to one side of the main house with its own pretty and private garden and entrance. The super king sized bed was supportive but not too firm and the bathroom was spotless with a rainwater type shower in addition to corner bath. The kitchen while small has everything needed for cooking and food preparation and all recycling is organised. We have already recommended Tudor Lee to friends and we hope to return ourselves. Thank you again Jill and family.

Idyllic Getaway
We found Tudor Lea to be spacious and comfortable with every modern facility yet at the same time charming glimpses of days gone by. It is the perfect place to unwind with a garden and even an orchard to wander in. A complete country escape.

Hidden little Gem!
We had a fabulous time on IoW which was made even better by Jill & Steve's hospitality. They were so friendly and helpful. And they spoiled us by providing some groceries to get started. The accommodation is spacious, warm, inviting and comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped. It is situated in a nice quite village with a handy bus stop just down the road. I definitely recommend this place. We can't wait to return for another stay in this gorgeous cottage.

A charming hideaway, in a lovely setting, well placed to explore the West Wight.
Surrounded by lovely gardens, roses looking and smelling great, this little cottage style apartment was perfect for two of us. It is well equipped, has plenty of room to relax with heating for unexpected chilly evenings. The bedroom is spacious and has a luxurious superking bed. Good bathroom with shower and bath. Helpful unobtrusive owners made us welcome.
