Incredible

Jack and Abby have created a wonderful sanctuary at Pretty Lake. The cabin is perfect. The recording studio gave us the perfect place to read and listen to music on a rainy day. We thoroughly enjoyed paddling around the lake on paddle boards and feeding the fish off the dock. We’ll certainly be back!

Graduation stay

Loved the property and was very comfortable. Be sure and bring food! Miscommunication about the fee. They said they had never had that before. I guess I didn’t read the fine print. Just a really relaxing and very clean place to stay.

Anniversary Weekend Getaway

The cabin was just what we were expecting for our short weekend getaway. We were able to relax out on the dock and take in the water and wildlife around us. We enjoyed the hot tub and watching a movie on the nice projector TV. In the morning, as we had our coffee we would see the wild turkey, young deer, and the resident goose couple tending to her eggs:) There are some short trails on the property and I did some fishing. Also they gifted us a nice bottle of wine for our Anniversary which was very sweet and thoughtful. It was nice to have Columbia close by to run into town for a dinner and pick up a couple of things. I look forward to making it back in the future.

A little peaceful oasis close, but not too close, to town

As an architect Jack has done an impressive job with very quality work and high end materials in the construction of the Pretty Lake cabin. Abby and Jack were very friendly hosts and helpful. I was having trouble with tv/projector and Jack was there in minutes to fix the problem. Kayaks and paddle board were a lot of fun. They have created a sanctuary to encourage lots of wildlife; we woke up in the morning and were again visited in the evening surrounded by does and fawns along with turkey and a lovely geese “couple”. Very nice quiet getaway.

Great location for visiting our Mizzou student!

We had a wonderful time at the Pretty Lake Guest House. The house was immaculate with a well stocked kitchen. We used the kayaks and enjoyed our hikes around the little lake. We didnt have good weather (pouring rain) but if we did we would have also made use of the paddle board and fishing poles and would have made a bon fire each night. We loved seeing the deer and heron while playing board games on the porch one morning. Even though it rained the whole weekend it was a beautiful view. Jack the owner greeted us when we arrived and gave us a full tour of the place and gave us great local info. He made sure to show us how to use the tv and electronics. The drop down movie screen and their extensive movie collection was a huge plus for our rainy evenings. Located next to the cabin is a studio which could be used as a recording studio or yoga studio. Jack encouraged my husband who is a drummer to enjoy the space and give his piano and acoustic drum set a try. My husband loved it and had a blast and hung out there several times. We have already rented the space for another visit in a few months for our family of 5. The cabin is only about a 10-15 min (very easy) drive from the Mizzou campus which was very convenient for visiting our son. Our son stayed with us and it was a relaxing get away from campus. The hot tub was under repair but the owner let us know beforehand.

Enjoyed this property tremendously for my husband's birthday getaway! Fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming and very peaceful with a lot of wildlife to view... Romantic dinner in Columbia which was very close by and yet far enough away to enjoy tranquility...would recommend this property!

Absolutely beautiful and peaceful!

My husband and I stayed here during the roots & blues festival and had the best time. This lovely lake house has it all- fishing, kayaking, gorgeous scenery, and even a little music studio if you are in the mood for a jam session. And I can’t forget the hot tub! The host family is incredibly sweet and accommodating. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Great cabin, gracious hosts. Abby went above and beyond. We hosted a dinner party for 20+ in the spacious 3 season room and she helped with every detail. Gorgeous views, we enjoyed wildlife watching all weekend.

Don't Light The Candles! Great Place to Retreat!

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay at the lake house. Between the two of us we have 8 children with our 9 year old being the youngest. We have been on many family vacations this year and my boyfriend is self-employed so he works very hard all year long. When we decided to attend the Roots and Blues BBQ festival in Columbia, MO, I was looking at hotels and I just wasn't happy with what I was finding. We love to camp so I decided to look for a cabin by a lake and my search lead me to this GREAT place. This was the perfect place for us to get away to. We were able to relax, fish all day, enjoy the hot tub and have a campfire at night. That's where the candles come in...we didn't have anything to light the campfire with, no matches or lighters. Therefore, we had to be creative. We saw the candles and thought we could light the candle from the gas stove and take it outside to the campfire. So we tried several times to light the candle and they would not light for anything. When my boyfriend turned the candle over I say IT...IT was the switch to turn the candle on! Wasn't one of our finest moments...but made for a great memory and lots of laughs. You will not find nicer people to host you. Abby and her family are very gracious hosts! We will certainly be back!

Wonderful stay!

We had the pleasuring of staying this past weekend and it was wonderful! From the moment we got there until we left, Abby and her husband were so attentive and welcoming. The Cabin was beautiful and was furnished with everything you could possibly need. We had our own private lake to go fishing, hiking trails, kayaks, and the hot tub at night was perfect. There were many grocery stores, restaurants, and even a winery near by. We cannot to visit again!!

Hit the reserve button right now for this place...

If you are looking for a place close to Columbia MO that is serene, scenic, with wildlife, quiet, on a lake, great fishing, pristine accommodations and superb hosts... hit the reserve button right now for this place. I spend 3 nights and was wanting to stay longer. Columbia and all of the city amenities were easily accessible, but I was more interested in spending time at this cottage. Hiking, fishing, kayaking and sunset cocktails on the deck (which is on the water) was an easy routine that I fell into and there is a great music studio where I even tried my hand on the drum set. I am already looking forward to my next trip to Columbia and will only stay at this place.

Why they chose this property

After seeing this property it was love at first sight. We have a dream of building tree houses on the property and hosting kids summer camps with emphasis on dance, textiles, and music.

What makes this property unique

Looking out the large windows at wildlife and the trees reflection on the lake is magical.
