Peaceful retreat nestled in the woods

Our family stayed at this lovely cabin last summer, and it was a perfect vacation for what we were seeking--time to reconnect with each other, to enjoy woods & water, and to slow down with books, conversation, and nature. Sylvia was thoughtful throughout our planning & stay, and I loved the little touches--from handmade mugs for morning coffee to cozy reads about the region. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Wilderness stay in Michigan

Summary: A vacation for those who enjoy the woods / seclusion and those who enjoy the beach or seeing sites and history. The setting in in the midst of a wooded area allowing seclusion and home setting that is ultimate for relaxation. Cleanliness: The property was clean, and upkeep was excellent. The outdoor area was well manicured and taken care of despite the outdoor wood location which one would things would be difficult to maintain. Check-in: Check-in is as easy as it gets with online communication and everything completed in advance of arrival. Accuracy of on-line listing: Very accurate. The kitchen and living room were large in size. The bedrooms (2) were normal sized for the average home. The bathroom was comparable with other baths in homes of that size. The only thing I would say is that the shower is smaller and would not accommodate larger people well. The Wood burning stove and outdoor firepit is an absolute plus and it gives the property that mountain cabin feeling. Communication with property manager: Excellent communication and always a prompt response. Location and Neighborhood: What is great about the neighborhood it is quiet and safe. With the woods and seclusion, it is great for relaxation. There is plenty of great local food or if you like the fast food, is available. Wineries, distilleries, and breweries are plentiful if you enjoy taste testing. There is enough diversity that everyone will find something they enjoy. What was nice is that

Wonderful vacation spot

We will definitely be staying again. Everything was exactly as we expected and more. The location is very secluded, and yet there is plenty to do within 30 minutes if you do want to venture out. This location was perfect for traveling with our dog as well.

A perfect stay in the woods!

My husband and dog stayed here with another couple and their dog for a long weekend. The home is lovely - so clean, updated, well-stocked, and nicely decorated. The setting is quiet and set in the woods with a lovely deck, porch, balcony, and yard. Communication with the host was terrific and everything was easy. This is one of the best rentals we’ve stayed at and I’d book it again in a second!

Perfect for us

Clean, comfortable, cozy. The cabin feels like it’s at the end of the world, but it is easy to get to Petoskey and Mackinac Island. We had our two dogs with us and they loved investigating the yard, which is full of naturalized plantings and mown paths. The space was great for my husband and me, but I think it would be tight with any additional adults. This was a great getaway!

Return visitors

This was our 3rd time time staying at the chalet and it was wonderful as usual. We really focused on biking this trip and had a great time hitting mountain bike and gravel trails all within a short drive (less than 20 min) or ride out from the driveway. Well appointed kitchen and cozy, thoughtfully curated interior. 4 restaurants are within a very short drive or bike ride (beware the road has a giant hill to pedal up to return if you choose to bike!): Legs Inn, Petoskey Brewing, Moosejaw Junction, and Crows Nest.

Woodsy wonderland

This cabin was the perfect retreat - set in the woods with a nice clearing to let the sun into the back yard area. The kitchen was clean and well equipped with all the pots and pans and utensils anyone would need to enjoy cooking a great meal. I missed having a microwave (but not too much). The fire pit was great and there was plenty of wood supplied. To put it in a nutshell, this place was heaven! So close to Wilderness State Park, and the bridge. We had the most wonderful time! We would definitely come back in the future.

Best Quiet Vacation Spot

The A-frame is a little hidden gem - it feels like you're in a storybook setting when you pull up the dirt road and see it nestled back in the woods. I think this is our 4th stay and we still love everything about it. It's clean, comfortable and just the best place to relax. It was a bit cooler this trip so we had a few more fires inside but we were still able to go swimming at Sturgeon Bay Beach, fly kites and climb a sand dune. Not much else to do in the area except get ice cream at the gas station and have a night playing pinball at Legs Inn - which is plenty for us. We hope to come back many more times in the future.

Hidden Gem!

Our stay in Cross Village was absolutely delightful. The Cabin is so cute and cozy and had everything we needed. We had a fire each night in the spacious yard and our dog loved it as well! The best part was it was quiet and hidden away from the world- exactly what is needed if you need some time away. Was super close to Leg’s Inn and the Tunnel of Trees, and close to Sturgeon Beach in Wilderness State Park. Sylvia even allowed us to stay a little longer which was so kind, and she was easy and delightful to communicate with. Will probably come back next year!

Our family cottage built in 1969 on 80 acres of beautiful wilderness. My father and mother were immigrants from England and Poland. We lived in Northville, MI and spent our summers in Cross Village. My father worked at FMC and came up every weekend. I fell in love with this area and in 1994 finally moved up here from Chicago to live year round. My husband and I were married at the little stone church in Cross Village!

Why they chose this property

Great place to bring your dog since we are situated on lovely 80 acres of meadow and forest, map of the property is provided, very quiet and private. We are less than one mile from Lake Michigan, as kids we used to walk to the Village and down to the beach from the chalet.
We provide lots of cotton towels and cotton bed sheets, also firewood and kindling free of charge.

What makes this property unique

1. The water here is from a deep well , clean and delicious so you can fill your to go bottles if you like!
2. Harbor Springs has one of the best recycling centers in the state so I do provide bins for that.
3. Linen sheets are washed in hot water and dried on clotheslines in the sun, which gives them extra cleaning bleached by the sun. I also use Dropps, laundry pods which come in a box!
4. There is also a composting bin if you so choose!
