Family stay for my son's wedding
Although a great position there had clearly been minimal maintenance for a long time - one of the main veranda door panels was missing - lying in the garden -and the opening taped over - not a great first impression. The couches were old and stained and grubby, handles were rusty, cupboards were cluttered and unorganised.
The septic - after the first night began to smell and it was so bad on the last morning (our stay was only 2 nights) that we had to hold our noses!
There were decaying vegetables in the on bench baskets. All beds were made with no top sheet so we hoped that the bed covers were washed between stays - they did seem to be.
The house was barley clean, the dining table was sticky.
The owners were a little lax in their communication.
I had emailed about the configuration of bedding - we had 6 single people - I received no reply.
When we arrived - despite booking for 12 people, the beds were made up for 10 only. When I rang to discuss this and the possibility of getting more sheeting for the single stayers there was no accomodation. Just a hard no. 2 of our family were bitten by bed bugs.
With regard to the check in process, the first email sent by the owners had no content and when I email to draw their attention to this they did not get back to me until the afternoon before our stay. I had mentioned that I would not be checking my email as we were preparing things for the wedding and to text me. This was not done so we did not receive any information prior to our arrival.
What could have been a lovely experience was tainted by all the above issues.
Such a shame as the position was amazing and with a good clean and decent maintenance it could have been a fantastic experience as well.
