A wonderful stay

A beautiful house in a beautiful and quiet area. Nice views. Lots of space in and arround the house. Very nice and large swimmingpool. Beds were for a few of us (allmost 2 meters and 95+ kilograms) too small and could have been a bit firmer. Communication with owner was very fine. We had a very nice stay and a wonderful holiday.

The best sunset view and lovely large house with pool

We had a great stay and there's plenty to see relatively nearby. Lots of kitchen equipment, wifi was fine and the pool was a great size. The views were amazing too. definitely follow the advice of the owners to view nearby ancient villages and we went quite far out one day to Carcassone as it's incredible but a 2 hour drive. Lots local though. The supermarket around 15 mins drive away too. Recommended!

Peaceful tranquility in a beautiful farmhouse in Tarn

Our whole group had a fantastic stay in this beautiful house which is situated on a hillside with the most beautiful views. The house is surrounded by forests and fields and it’s teeming wildlife and makes a perfect spot to relax and unwind. The house is very well equipped and we rustled up great meals in the well equipped kitchen using the fantastic local produce. The pool area is lovely with lots of sun beds and umbrellas and there are plenty of games/ table tennis to entertain everyone. The views from the house are really special and watching sunsets from the front terrace was a favourite daily routine. This area is one of our favourites in France with so many lovely ancient villages to visit and plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. We loved the Sunday market in St Antonin , we visited Albi and Najac which were our longest trips out at just under an hour and many other villages very close by. The castles at Penne and Bruniquel are both well worth visiting. We’ll definitely be back!

Wonderful stay in French Countryside

If you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life then this is surely it. Really quiet except for the sounds of birds and the occasional deer roaming in the fields next to you. Lovely house with stunning views and great pool. 20 mins from main supermarket and just 10 mins to local shops. We loved it.

The best holiday house yet!

We have stayed in several holiday houses in France, and this has definitely been our favourite. Location is outstanding. Best ever view from a washing line! The track to the house looks a little challenging, but caused us no problems and luckily we didn't meet anyone coming the other way in the whole week. The space in the house is wonderful. Huge rooms with loads of comfortable seating both inside and out. Bedrooms are comfortable and the whole house is clean and well-stocked with everything you need. Plenty of plates, cooking pots and pans and even a good range of herbs and spices. Lots of board games, books and even a table-tennis table. One suggestion which would have made our stay an 11/10 would have been bigger towels as the ones provided whilst clean, fresh and fluffy were a tad on the small side. We solved that by buying some larger ones at the supermarket. The pool is beautiful. Clean and in a stunning setting. We regularly had birds of prey overhead as we swam. It is easy to keep cool at this house. It feels beautifully cool inside and the hillside setting means there is always a pleasant breeze. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this stunning house.

Holiday in the hills

An amazing house, full of charm, beautiful farm house, so much space. Everything you need, only wished our teenagers used WiFi less, but on such hot days it suited them and we got our peace and quiet listening to the birds and wildlife, swimming in the refreshing pool. Lovely touches with a trinket box for my jewellery, hand cream by the sink, flowers we were happy to water. lovely eating areas, great TV, again for teenagers, but great to watch The Commonwealth Games. Stunning views across the hills, beautiful sunsets and The stars were amazing. Lovely villages and rivers for days out, great shops. Loved the day of canoeing on the river, and float up to cafes. The house has everything you need, clean comfortable beds. Fans in each room, but loved the windows open listening to the sounds. Great Market in The Beautiful San Antonin de Val, Penne lovely as to Surrounding villages, The Pool…❤️ Great memories made, Very sad to leave . Loved this Place

A perfect holiday in a perfect place

My husband and I decided to splash out and book ourselves a lovely get away from it all holiday where we could properly relax and enjoy the French countryside. Having spotted the property on the website we stopped looking immediately knowing we had found our ideal holiday home. The house was absolutely fantastic. Well maintained, and even bigger than the pictures suggested, it had absouletly everything you could need. Pool, barbecue, games, maps, bikes, recipes, DVDs and books to name but a few things! The kitchen was very well equipped (it even featured a dishwasher) and the Super U at Negrepelisse (20 minutes away) was ideal for getting all the shopping. Anne was really helpful in the run up to the holiday and supplied useful suggestions as well as perfect directions from the airport. This was then supported by a welcome pack by Laurette, which was a nice surprise as it allowed us to have a well needed cuppa and our first of many taste of French bread. The local area is absolutely fantastic and we would definitely reccommend visits to the local villages of Penne, Bruniquel, Puycelsi and St Antonin (the Sunday market was excellent). We also visited Cordes sur Ciel, Najac and Carcassonne - all very worthwhile. The biggest trip we took was to the Pyrenees for the day. My husband being a Tour de France fan was keen to visit Col d'Aspin and the Col du Tormalet. We also vistied the Cirque de Gavarnie - what a view. We had intended to visit lots of places but the house, pool and surrounding location were just too nice to leave and with the weather hot and sunny most days getting in the car just didn't seem worthwhile. The pool and barbecue were certainly well used during our two week stay. We saw some amazing sunsets during our visit. The view from the living room over the valley left us in awe as night after night we were privileged to see the sky turn an array of reds, oranges and yellows. We also some some great wildlife - deer, buzzards, eagles, lizards, frogs and the biggest bees I've ever seen. In short La Poumayrette was everything we thought it would be and more. We would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful get away from it all holiday in a charming part of the world. The biggest honour we can probably pay it is that we already hope to return there next year despite having never ever returned to the same place on holiday in our 20 years together!

Week in July with family group of 10

Excellent pre trip communication with owner Anne who is super helpful !The farmhouse is as beautiful as in the picture, lovely inside space and thoughtful provisions, utensils etc. Excellent pool. So peaceful and butterflies were amazing! It’s somewhat remote, which was unnerving for some of our city accustomed party, but once persuaded outside they too enjoyed the outside space. Surprisingly no flies / pests!Must play boules! Fantastic fun! Even got to see the Tour de France pass by a km away!!! Fabulous places to visit not far. Loved Cordes-sur-Ciel. Need to plan shopping for food as larger stores are 30 -40 minutes or so . We needed more fans as weather was hot and were swiftly reimbursed. Met the housekeepers as we were leaving who were lovely. Excellent value and highly recommended! Thanks so much! This place certainly lived up to its reviews!

Excellent

Stone farmhouse restoration with lovely garden. Perfect. Seclusion. Only noise is wildlife which is varied and interesting (Lizards/Deer/butterflies in abundance/humming bird moths/Jays/nightingales/amongst many others). Facilities great. Beautiful house and spot great. Pool super with views over the wooded valley. Stunning sunsets. Plenty of space indoors and outdoors for family meals. Accessible for markets and supermarkets about 9-13 miles away. Two fridge/freezers. TV with wifi. Table tennis table. Nearby country restaurants. Amazing gravity defying castles in nearby Bruniquel and Penne. Local Kayaking. Cordes sur Ciel easy drive away (medieval Artisanal Village-visit a must). You can do lots or as little as you wish. You can eat out or cook local produce at home or BBQ it. Washing machine and dishwasher in kitchen. Linger late into the warm evening with a glass of your favourite and let all cares and worries melt away. Embrace French lifestyle. We never go back to the same holiday home...this time however I think we will make an exception. Get thee behind me lad!

Far beyond our already very high expectations.

This wonderful farmhouse was all that the description says but so much more too ! You cannot really put into words the feeling of tranquillity, you have to experience it. Everything has been thought of for guests, there is so much space, a really flexible place to stay for friends or families. The pool was stunning, beautifully clean - you can swim with a view across the wild flower meadows ! The setting and the wildlife took our breath away, we didn't really want to go anywhere but exploring the immediate area was a delight, from the magical ruined chateau and castle at Bruniquel to the tottering chateau ruins at Penne, to the kayaking outing on the local river ! Evening meals at the front of the farmhouse looking all the way down the valley and listening to nightingales were the perfect way to end each day.

Calme, repos, nature, fantastique!

Just Wonderful

The best holiday ever was the unanimous vote from the whole family; all ten of us and three generations. Upon arrival we were simply blown away by the beautifully renovated house, its layout, internal space and of course the wonderful swimming pool. La Poumayrette is set in the most beautiful location and offers peace and tranquillity in abundance. On a practical level, the house worked really well with everything one needed to self cater and sufficient bathrooms for the ten of us. The house inside is comfortably furnished and there were enough sun loungers and cushions around the pool for everyone. The pool itself was efficiently serviced twice a week by a very friendly and chatty technician who probably has the best job in the world. Although there are no.immediate neighbours we did meet families who lived along the track and they were all ready to stop for a chat; all very nice. As we were in August we were spoilt for choice with things to do. The canoeing from St Antonin to Penne was fantastic and the less taxing pursuits of wine tasting and visiting some of the amazing bastides equally enjoyable. In conclusion, this has to be the perfect place to stay.

Host profile image
We bought La Poumayrette the year my third child was born and it became a wonderful family holiday home for many years as the children were growing up. Nowadays they visit with their friends and are keener on climbing than building dens in the forest! I live in Devon - so obviously have an affinity with the south west - and visit La Poumayrette regularly throughout the year. My main challenge is the garden! Temperatures can reach 40 in the summer and plunge to - 15 in the winter. Add the attentions of the deer and the wild boar and you can see the challenge! A big thank you to all the guests who care for it during their holiday.

Why they chose this property

We travelled extensively in France before buying the house. I just love the area: it's relaxed, unspoilt and local people are very welcoming. Lying beside the pool watching the buzzards and listening to the crickets is my idea of heaven!

What makes this property unique

La Poumayrette has something special to offer in every season. Summer's long hot days are wonderful, but in autumn you can hear the bellow of the rutting stags and their clashing antlers, and in Spring and early Summer the meadows are full of orchids and other wild flowers. I suppose what I love above all is that sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine in my hand I have spectacular views down the valley for over 50 kilometres without another house or human being in sight!
