Mel Jays in Kingscote is a family friendly home suitable for up to 6 guests. Located in the heart of Kingscote, and within a 5 minute walk to the main street, shops, tidal pool and jetty, makes it the perfect home away from home.

Mel Jays offers ideal accomodation wether you be a family looking for a comfortable and spacious base for your holiday or are over for work and need somewhere that provides convenience to local shops and hotels / restaurants after a long day at work.

On offer is 3 seperate bedrooms with double beds, spacious kitchen, large lounge area, newly updated bathroom and fully enclosed backyard with BBQ facilities as well as a TV

With such great fishing spots around the area a fish cleaning station has been provided in the back yard. You can cook your catch on the BBQ or just enjoy a bottle of local wine and snack under the pergola while the kids enjoy playing in the backyard. There is a driveway on either side of the house allowing parking for two vehicles and enough room for your boat and trailer.

A good sized kitchen and dining table provides you the option of preparing your own meals at home, heading out for take away or going out for a meal.

Mel Jays has been set up to be a comfortable place to stay while you enjoy exploring the island and all it has to offer, while also giving you the option of spending time relaxing at the house or strolling around Kingscote.

Excellent location and decent, comfortable accomodation

The accomodation provided us everything we need. It’s comfortable, clean, and spacious. It is walking distance to the ocean with good walk trails and views. Also, very strategic to the general store, restaurants, butcher, etc. the host was very kind and accomodating, very prompt to answer. Thank you

Best Location for best budget

It is difficult to find affordable accommodation anywhere on Kangaroo Island, if you are on a budget this house could be the one for you. In the heart of Kingscote, 5 minutes walk from the main street, 10 minutes to the supermarket and 10 minutes to the beach and tidal pool, you can not fault the location. You will be perfectly placed to access all that Kangaroo Island has to offer such as day trips or lazing on the beach. This house does not proclaim to be glamorous or a sprawling palace but it is adequate for a 6 person stay. Neat, tidy and compact, three bedrooms with comfortable double beds, an eat in kitchen with a table that seats 6 and a cozy lounge with two very comfortable rocking lounge chairs and a 2/5 seater. The shower was excellent with plenty of hot water and pressure. There is a separate loo. A very good washing machine (no dryer), an excellent air/con heater and the TV works well (only free to air) You will find this house more than covers the basics Cupboards are well stocked with all manner of kitchenware, condiments and some convenience foods to help you settle in. There is a comfortable undercover seating area in the fenced back yard and loads of birds darting from fence to trees. You will love the "smart lock" front door which the owner coded to a number of our choosing. The owner is also delightful to deal with. We had a great stay. You won't like: No Wi-Fi / Only one BthRm and toilet not 2. Owner may have updated this info on the site.

Great getaway

Needs Attention!

Although, on the whole, we had a very enjoyable stay on Kangaroo Island, Mel Jays is in need of some TLC. Disappointed to see that the sofas which were 'being changed at Easter this year', were in fact still in the house. Sofas in the main lounge room were also not the best (comfort wise!). Although the house was mostly in very good and clean order, i.e. kitchen/toilets/linen, some attention needs to be paid to vacuuming the walls and/or ceilings, especially in the toilet room. We thought that Mel Jays has much potential, but does need some money spent on it to improve its facilities. Also, the house had a VERY strong smell of fish when we arrived, like someone had been cleaning indoors! Oh, and some more clothes pegs would be of GREAT help.

Really good!

Very nice place, just a few flaws

We enjoyed the stay very much, the place was very spacious, clean, very well take care of. The only thing that could improve were: the windows in the family room didn't shut so it made the room very cold and the beds were quite squeaky and a bit uncomfortable. Other than that we looooved the place, great location. Enjoyed it very much! Thank you!

Perfect Base to Explore KI

Clean house, convenient location

We found this property suited our needs very well. Bedrooms were very comfortable (although we had to place a blanket over 1 window as a blind was missing, and we didn't want the sun to wake us too early). The kitchen had sufficient gear for us to fix breakfast each day. Location was within short walking distance to shops etc

Fantastic Home away from Home

Mel Jays was a fantastic place to stay for family of 6 (2 Adults and 4 Children). Very comfortable with all our needs catered for, even the kids were taken care of in the way of toys, books, movies and Play Station. Our Children's ages ranged from 17 to 3 and so they were kept entertained at the house at the end of each day of touring. The house is very clean with lovely decor. Really enjoyed our stay....Thank you.

Spacious and Nice Property; Good owner

We have total 8 adults, 1 child and 2 infants, one is 1.5 years old, another 3 years old, the house has sufficient beds to accmodate our 11 people, it is spacious and clean. With 2 living areas, the small one has 32inch LCD TV and PS3 playstation, which is good for the kids to play there. The big living room is for us to play card and watch movies, therefore, 2 groups won't affect each other. We made our dinner in the house, the kitchen has plenty of appliances, fridge is new and the dinner is also big to sit with our people. Owner is very nice, she will reply you promptly by email or message, and help you to solve the booking questions and requirement from the guests.
