About this property

Jimbo's Farm - 53 Acre Retreat with Trout Pond and Stream

Nestled in the Nantahala National Forest, and in the southern shadows of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, you'll find 'Jimbo's Farm.' It's a 53 acre retreat that includes a 122 year-old restored Farm House with New Metal Roof, one acre trout pond, 2 settling ponds with waterfalls and mountain branch running through the entire property. There are Apple / Pear / Peach / Cherry Trees and Blueberry Bushes in meadow next to Pond. Starlink Internet service with wireless router available. Springtime arrives late March, when the old growth trees begin to green and daffodils start to bloom. By summer, dogwood, laurel, wild azaleas and rhododendron are in full glory. Gentle summer temperatures rarely reach 80 F while nights drop into the high 50's. The colors of fall in this rural mountain setting make for the most spectacular viewing. With over 100,000 acres of National Forest, the walking trails along the pristine streams and mountain tops contain one of the greatest varieties of flora found anywhere in the world. Lake Santeetlah covers 2800 acres, with 100 miles of shoreline. Excellent fishing for small mouth bass and large mouth bass, walleye, crappie, bream, and lake trout. Cherohala Skyway; a leisurely and breathtaking drive. This ridge route between North Carolina and Tennessee opened on October 12, 1996 and was immediately acclaimed as one of the most scenic routes in the USA. Spirit Ridge offers the most expansive view along the entire route. The Dr agon: 318 curves in 11 miles on US 129, a scenic driving challenge. Mountain crafts abound with over 500 local artisans. Cherokee Indians are native to the county and make beautiful baskets, beaded items and carvings. Tsali: one of top 10 mountain biking trails in the US. Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest: the last 3,800 acres of untouched virgin wilderness east of the Mississippi. Old growth trees, some 20 feet around the base, grow in this natural setting and remain in its primitive state. Excellent walking trails wind along this living monument to the memory of Joyce Kilmer, the poet who is best remembered for the poem 'Trees.' Practice your Fly casting skills on your private trout pond before heading off to countless streams. Then visit the famous Blue Boar Lodge, rent a boat and try your luck on Lake Santeetlah. Enjoy the many outdoor activities available just minutes from ' Jimbo's Farm .' Or just stock up, close the gate, and stay in your secluded retreat. Have a seat on the porch and enjoy the quiet, slow paced life of Graham County. Relaxing country stay

Robbinsville is a place we visit regularly. We have family in the area and attend Decoration Day. Everything about this listing is accurate, especially the peaceful and secluded setting. Staying at Jimbo's was a delight.

Relaxing and Rustic

Great old farmhouse on a wonderful property. The pond was superb, with lots of room to explore. Jim was very responsive. Lots of birds and wildlife, minutes from downtown (grocery store, etc.). We used Jimbo's as a base for fishing in the various surrounding lakes. Recommended!

Great get away.

The property is what is advertised. It is a 100 plus year old farm house that has been renovated. Huge kitchen table, dated fixtures, soft floor in spots, but clean. I’m 63 years old and it reminded me of my Grandmother’s house. It rained a good bit during our stay. The front porch was perfectly situated for sitting back and enjoying the rain. We felt comfortable at Jimbo’s farm and will likely return. Don’t expect 5 star amenities and valet parking, expect a more true country mountain experience and you will be pleased.

Spent the days relaxing and fishing! The porch was cool and comfortable, and the property peaceful.

Great week. Enough to do from ages 3-70. Toddler played in the creek and older ones fished/hiked. So peaceful, and restful.

Wonderful stay

My family enjoyed our time here. The fishing pond was a huge hit with my 11 yr old son. The moon happened to be full and there was an absolutely beautiful view from the front porch, reflecting on the pond. So relaxing, which was just what I needed. Earlier in the evening the lightning bugs were out. Blueberries were ripe for picking and we all enjoyed that too. This is a very beautiful area to explore. We would love to go back again sometime.

Perfect Quarantine Vacation

We really enjoyed our trip to Jimbo’s Farm. The house was old and a bit outdated but we knew that from the advertising. It was clean and met our needs. The property was lovely. We caught lots of fish and even had grilled trout for dinner one evening. We hiked the trails and enjoyed the mountain weather. It was the perfect place for an escape from quarantine.

Wonderful mountain cabin

Our family loved our week-long stay at Jimbo’s Farm. The cabin is charming with all the basics covered and the property is beautiful. We had a great time fishing in the pond and feeding the fish and enjoyed playing pool in the game room. The location is convenient to hiking, rafting, tubing and all the essential mountain activities. Jimbo was available if we needed him and checked in with us during our stay.

First family vacation

We took our first family vacation to Jimbo's farm. We went with 3 kids and a puppy. The property is very big and tons of room for the kids and the dog to run around. Jimbo made us feel welcome and the property was a great escape from reality. Beautiful views and great country living was just what we needed.

Stay at Jimbos farm

Our stay was nice and kids enjoyed the pond. However for the price for renting I would have expected it be cleaner. The bed linens were not fresh nor were the bathroom towels. The dishes weren't clean and we had to wash before being used. The kids were disappointed to find there was no pool table as read online. Due to the small house outside being unkept we did not use it for sleeping only to wash clothes. I understand it's an old house and will have somewhat a smell but the bathroom was absolutely ridiculous with urine odor. Just very disappointed as I rented this for my daughter and her family and I to have a nice vacation weekend. We made the best of our trip and still enjoyed spending time together.

Amazing Fly fishing, Birding, and Hiking

What an amazing cabin. My kids age 11 and 13 had a blast fishing in the pond. There are tons of trails and waters to fly fish or drop a worm. My old bird dog loved it!! Plenty of room to run and run and run. Tons of birds to be on the look out for as well.

Beautiful, quiet, peaceful, all the things you'd look for in a mountain cabin.

Had a great time at Jumbo's Farm. The property is beautiful and while there are neighbors close by we never saw or heard anyone else. Had a lot of fun sitting around the outdoor fire pit and grilling. Fed the fish twice a day but didn't have much luck catching any (blame the fisherman). Had some heavy rain the day we arrived so didn't do too much trail exploring. The master bed is the absolute most comfortable bed I've ever slept in.

Beautiful property!

This was a perfect place for 6 people and 4 dogs to experience the total eclipse in August! The house was very charming. It was very musty smelling but that was all disclosed to us when we booked it. If you have allergies, beware! We were completely alone in the middle of the woods, enjoyed the eclipse on the grass then jumped in the pond afterwards. We even had our standup paddle boards and kayak out on it! We went hiking on the AT at nearby Stecoah Gap and went to the trails atTsali recreation area to mountain bike and paddleboard in the lake. We couldn't have asked for a better time! Thank you for all your emails and responsiveness, Jimbo - you were great to work with and I highly recommend this rental to anyone!

Very nice

Overall good expiernce . Convenient to our areas of interest . Night there was beautiful with the sounds of owls calling by the light of the moon. Daytime a little noisy with neighbor sawing wood, but since we spent most days sightseeing, this would not stop me from booking again. Town was close enough to get supplies, and Jim checked in and was a great host.

Why they chose this property

Visited Western North Carolina many times over the years
Had friends with property in area & felt at home.

What makes this property unique

This is the last undiscovered area of WNC. 80% of land in Graham County is National Forest & locals are wonderful. You get the entire 53 acre to yourselves. Looking out from front porch you see the acre pond and Beech Creek Mountain, not other cabins .
Pond stocked with Rainbow Trout, Bluegill. There are loads of shiners, minnows, frogs, tadpoles, etc.....
Set of spinning rods & tacklebox on porch.
It's catch & release but if you get shutout on big Lakes you are welcome to a dinners worth during your stay.
If you prefer a Biltmore Estate sort of place, it is 90 miles due East of us.
There are cheaper places to stay, but none better
