We had a gloriously quiet weekend walking the empty stretch of beach (watching seals and dolphins just past the surf), reading on the deck and soaking in the tub. Highly recommended!
Charming and serene with lots of little touches such as the Kiwiana books and movies and the beautiful home-made preserves for our morning toast, all made this a brilliant place to stay in a stunning location. Thanks.
My husband and I were traveling throughout New Zealand for our honeymoon and wanted to stay in a quirky location to add to the experience. This property did not disappoint! The owners were some of the most welcoming hosts that we have ever encountered. They had homemade jam made from fruit grown in their garden waiting for us in the fridge. There was an outdoor bathtub surrounded by fairy lights in the yard behind the train-car. The train-car was beautifully and carefully refurbished with special attention made to maintain authenticity. The pathway to the beach was extremely close-by and private. Overall one of our favorite stays!
Stunning property, wonderful hosts equals paradise for a break away. This was one of the best places to visit, so close to the beach, not far from Kaikoura but in the most perfect place to relax.
We would not go via book a batch again, too challenging with trying to link in with property directory.
We had a lovely relaxing stay.

Why they chose this property
A little history on the this carriage. The carriage was built in 1921 and was on a farm in Waiau for many years. It was a guards van that was used as a shearers quarters for the workers. In 2007 it was removed from the farm and is now situated in a rural setting with mountain views just north of Kaikoura. It has now been carefully restored and luxuriously fitted out for your comfort. Enjoy the tranquil setting, viewing the mountains and listen to the waves roll in from the beach.
What makes this property unique
Tranquility, beach within 2 mins walk, hot outdoor bath, private Continental breakfast in the carriage with homemade preserves and homemade bottled fruit (additional costs apply)
