Red is AWESOME!

Red checked us in and made sure we were comfortable one day 1. The property was great, the kitchen stocked with the necessary dishes and seasonings for eating at home, the rooms clean and tidy, and Red made sure to explain all the cool tech gadgets that were available to us. It rained most of our stay, and Red offered us umbrellas and towels in case we didn't have any and came back soaked. Overall, this is a cool spot for getting a taste of the Lincoln Park-ish neighborhood, with soooo many coffee shops and eateries within a half-mile.

Great Property, Great Location. Pleased.

I came to Chicago for a family reunion and some sightseeing with my girlfriend and her sister. We stayed for a week, and were pleased with this place. It's a quaint old building right nearby downtown, so we were able to see a lot in the short amount of time that we were in the city. Hadn't used Chicago public transit before, but it turned out to be very close and easy to use. Hardly used the rental car at all. The parking passes helped so we could park right out front and not worry about it. The apartment, although wasn't extremely spacious, was pretty comfortable. The kitchen and bathroom were clean and modern. The wood floors and air conditioning were great considering how hot Chicago was. It was the first time that we opted to stay in a vacation rental over a hotel, and it turned out to be very cost effective. The fact that we had a kitchen was priceless because we got to cook a few of our meals. It didn't have everything you might find in a gourmet kitchen, but the back deck had a grill and some tables so we BBQ'd a couple nights. Overall, it was a really good experience. I'm definitely glad we chose a vacation rental, and this one turned out to be a good choice. Definitely recommend. PS I read other reviews about the customer service from the owner. Just for the record, we had no problem communicating by email and text message with Red. And although nothing needed to be fixed or immediately addressed, we felt good about how we were treated as guests.

I would stay here again

Great neighborhood. Many restaurants and bars. Easy access to transportation. Parking was easy. Had to ask for parking permits a number of times before I received them. Luckily the first night there was a spot in front that did not need a permit but after that I had to park around the corner or on the next block requiring a permit. Only received two channels on the TV. Since the remote didn't work it was quite a chore finding the channels that did work. Hope you like National Geographic and Showtime Family. Called Shannon but never heard back. I was required to wash and put away all dishes strip beds, pile up used towel and throw out the garbage. What did the cleaning fee cover? Bring your own toilet paper and paper towels. The windows that opened did not work properly, but overall I would stay here again.

This place is so nice to stay at!! It was very clean when arrived and the place looked amazing. This is near a lot of good things I like to go to. The owner was very nice and recommended good places for me to see in Chicago.

Clean, affordable and close to the L

We had a wonderful time at this rental. I'm giving this 5 stars because of the price and location and the helpful owner. But it is very basic so don't expect tons of luxury. We arrived very late which was fine because we had an information sheet and were able to use keys from a key box. This was a great location for us as my daughter was looking at local colleges and DePaul is right there and several others were easy to get to. There's a grocery a block away and the L station. The unit was painted bright cheery colors. The kitchen had a good assortment of pots, a coffee maker and such which was great as we had breakfast there every day and made dinner once. The bedrooms are small but the beds both had down comforters. The living room has 2 futon couches where my daughter slept - there was a closet there too so her stuff was not all over. Her friend from DePaul even stayed one night and Red was fine with that and told us where to get extra towels and a blanket for her. I liked this over a hotel and the price was better too as this was a budget trip for us. It was very homey and there were lots of books and brochures about tourist attractions and how to use the L system. Also, we drove and parked right out front with a sticker Red gave us. The neighborhood is very nice and our car was fine. One piece of advice - text the owner if you need a fast response. When we would text Shannon or Red as she's called and normally she answered within a few minutes.

OK but too small for the 6 of us

The description is reliable and all in all our weekend worked out OK. I would suggest it's a squeeze for 6 people though. For example you can just about squeeze 3 around the kitchen table (see the picture) and the shower room is tiny. We were OK because 4 of our lot were kids, but isix adults would really struggle. Everything else was OK and I don't mean to put people off. Just don't expect much luxury (and I know its not promised). The place is a little tired, a bit gloomy but that said, for the price, OK value. I found communicationwith the owner a bit tiresome, very unresponsive and then really brief messages that were not very helpful. Again, when all was said and done, she came through and there were no hitches with the actual weekend when it arrived.
