Enjoy a rural setting with upscale accommodations and privacy in a newly renovated farmhouse (circa 1790's) located on 35 acres in historic Loudoun County. The guest house is unique and separate from the main house, giving you your own private entrance, a fully equipped country kitchen, a living room and studio, so guests have plenty of space for privacy or gatherings. There are two beautifully decorated bedrooms upstairs, a small bedroom downstairs off the kitchen, and a newly renovated bathroom. The guest house features two porches, with one overlooking the gardens and the Blue Ridge mountains. There are stables and a ring available for horses. You are welcome to walk the grounds or swim or relax in our Endless Pool.

It just is a wonderful, peaceful, private setting!

Come hike, bike or ride your horse on the 184.5 mile long Chesapeake & Ohio Canal located along the north bank of the Potomac River, starting in Washington, DC and ending in Cumberland, MD. Raft or kayak on the Potomac or Shenandoah Rivers, or visit historic Leesburg, Harper's Ferry or the many local Civil War battlefields, all within an hour or less scenic drive. Or, you can relax and enjoy the view of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains from your private porch, while sipping wine from the local vineyards. Or cool off in the same setting in our Endless Pool.

Visit award winning Virginia wineries, just minutes from the house. Dine at excellent restaurants within 30 minutes drive. Shop at antiques shops, Leesburg Outlets Mall, or in prominent locations such as Middleburg VA. Spend an evening at the Charles Town WV race track and casino. See museums, from the Brunswick Railroad Museum (5 min) to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum (40 min).

A commuter train to Washington is just 5 min away. Or just relax and enjoy the quiet setting.

The best!

This was our third stay with Bart and Carol at Linden Hill Farm. You can’t ask for more gracious hosts, nor a more beautiful, welcome setting! We are immediately relaxed in the surroundings, and all of the amenities are a plus. We weren’t far from family in Harper’s Ferry, so they were able to visit us as well to enjoy the back porch and the critters who make the farm their home. We love it!

Wonderful Trip to see kids and grand kids

The grandkids would come during the day and they loved seeing the animals and feeding the donkey. They also enjoyed playing in the pool. Us grownups enjoyed the fresh eggs we had daily and the beautiful view we had while watching the kids in the pool. Nice garden to walk through and lots of land to go explore. Beds were comfy too.

Vacation/ Anniversary

First off, Bart and Carol counldn't be more accomodating and friendly. We arrived amd were greeted will well wishes for Our stay. When i needed a nice place to celebrate Our 19yr Wedding Anniversary, they gave me three choices but one stuck out; the Wine Kitchen on the Creek in Fredrick. The he was a beautiful welcome to tje staet of the Vacation, mornings on the front porch drinking coffee and relaxing before the start of the day. Also some nights on the back porch sipping my whiskey, I invited Bart over for a drink. We enjoyed the animals and the beauty, it was just the right spot to unwind from all the other stuff. So Thank You Bart & Carol for letting my family be a part of yours for a short stay. Sgt J Knapp USMC

Welcome Home

This is the second time we stayed at Linden Hill, using this beautiful farm as a base for visiting family in Harper’s Ferry and for exploring the countryside. We love it! Hosts Bart and Carol make you feel welcome by providing for any needs you might have, including breakfast goodies to start your day. The pastoral setting, all of the critters and the feeling of privacy, create your own little haven. Our relatives, who actually live nearby, said Linden Hill would even be a great weekend getaway!

Relaxing and Beautiful Getaway

My family stayed at Linden Hall Farms for a week and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful, peaceful and fun experience. The hosts have thought of everything you could possibly need and provided it. They were also very attentive to any other accomodations we needed. The farm is absolutely gorgeous and the house is charming and clean. We loved having farm fresh eggs, hearing the chickens in the morning and watching the farm animals roam. With so many things to do, it was our kids favorite vacation. They had a blast playing with the donkeys, swimming and playing on the tire swing. It is the perfect location to be close to Washington DC yet be away from the busy city. It is close to an abundance of vineyards, beautiful hiking spots, waterfalls and the historic Harpers Ferry. This farm is the perfect mix of being able to visit the nearby city and enjoy the quiet peace of the home and farm. I definitely recommend this wonderful getaway for your vacation.

A Farmhouse Getaway

An especially family focus Thanksgiving that brought back days of old when kids on the farm enjoyed life in its simplicity. This was the feeling and comment that ran across the family. A comfortable and warmly decorated retreat that encouraged one to slow down, smell the roses and pet the animals.

Beyond our expectations

This farm was paradise. So beautiful and peaceful. The guest house was decorated is a classic homey farm style that complimented the historic property. We used this farm as home base while visiting Washington DC, Baltimore and the Amish country but we could have spent the whole week there and been blessed. Best vacation money we have spent in a long time.

Wonderful stay! So relaxing. Panoramic views from the two private porches.

Wonderfully maintained home with every amenity I needed — including a strong shower, gas stove, air conditioning, large clothes washer and dryer, and a large dishwasher. Absolutely beautiful farm where they lovingly take care of the animals. My stay flew by as I spent many days on the two guesthouse porches I had to myself just looking at the beauty of it all. I felt very safe staying on my own, as the guesthouse is attached to the main house, but I had complete privacy. Property owners were available if I needed anything, but they were not intrusive. Still feeling relaxed after my stay. The eggs from the chickens were delicious, and I enjoyed feeding the donkeys.

Great place & lovely hosts

We very much enjoyed our stay at the farm. The rental is a "guest house" attached to the main farmhouse, but it is completely private. The owners brought some lovely breakfast makings including fresh milk, sausage, eggs from the farm, and fruit, and also brought some cereal and other food. We took full advantage of the forever pool and enjoyed visiting the farm animals and and feeding apples to the donkeys. It's also close by to Harpers Ferry, Leesburg, and local wineries. A+++

Wonderful

This was a awesome vacation with our family. Bart and Carol were wonderful hosts. They supplied us with fresh eggs sausage fruit yogurt and milk for our breakfast. The kitchen was fully stocked with staple items. The house was awesome. You were out in nature but close to many things to see and do. There are many wineries close by . We visited one. Harper's Ferry is very close and we went in there several times and visited some historic places and battlefields. Our grandson enjoyed the animals on the farm and the pool. Bart and Carol graciously supplied us with everything we needed. I highly recommend this home.

A welcome retreat

This is a farm setting in a rural part of our county. My family and I got to live there over the winter for 4 months while our new home was being built. I can’t call it anything other than idyllic. It was a safe and peaceful space and we enjoyed making lasting family memories while there. Bart and Carol (owners) were consummate hosts and there is literally nothing I can think of to express concern over. The home was clean, well maintained and comfortable. We enjoyed every last moment we spent there. Thank you!

Peaceful Farm Retreat

We had a pleasant experience at Linden Hill Farm. The owner greeted us upon arrival and made sure we were comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and even had fresh eggs from the farm and other starter breakfast items. The only issue we had was that we encountered quite a few of stinkbugs in the house, but we just used a hand vacuum to get rid of them. We were allowed to feed the chickens and donkeys, the kids loved that. The owners were very helpful and we felt very welcomed! We stayed in December so unfortunately the pool wasn't available, maybe we'll come back one summer. Close proximity to Harper's Ferry and c&o trail.

About the host

Hosted by Bart Hodgson

Host profile image
Bart and Carol are your hosts at Linden Hall. The property was acquired in 1997. The previous owners had purchased the home in the 1960s and spent over 20 years restoring the rundown buildings, for which they won the 1984 Loudoun Preservation Society Merit Award. Since then, the Hodgson’s have continued to enhance the home inside and out. The Guest House was previously a rental home. In the Summer of 2009, the Hodgson’s decided to create an upscale lodging which would emphasize the rural setting and availability of local attractions. Over the following months, they labored to upgrade the kitchen, bathroom and furnishings throughout the residence.

The doors to Linden Hall Guest House opened in November 2010.

Why they chose this property

Warm, comfortable, and in a relaxing country setting central to many activities.

What makes this property unique

The setting is beautiful, and we have added a lot of landscaping. Children enjoy the farm animals and tire swing in a shaded lawn. The Guest House has a laundry, which makes it excellent for families on vacation. With free Wi-Fi, the Guest House offers a quiet and peaceful place to keep in touch with work and other interests.
