2nd stay and didn't disappoint!

This was our second stay at Courage Cabin and it was just as wonderful as the first. It's just perfect, and the only place we will stay when visiting NC. Clean, fully stocked, inviting deck with hot tub, and comfy beds. Ski slope only about 30 minutes away. We'll be headed back a third time next February.

Extra relaxing

Courage Cabin was a welcoming home in a quiet neighborhood close to West Jefferson. It was so easy to relax here we didn't want our trip to end. This cabin has definitely made our favorites list and we can't wait to visit again. The host was gracious and quick to respond. The cabin has all the amenities and info from the host that made navigating anything extra easy.

Absolutely love this place!!

This was our 5th trip to Courage Cabin along with our 2 dogs. We all love it!! You are relaxingly secluded but close enough to the wonderful towns of West Jefferson, Boone and Blowing Rock. This place has every amenity you could imagine for both humans and furry companions. Jill is very helpful and easy to communicate with. We will be back again!!

Perfect getaway!

Everything at Courage Cabin was just perfect! This was our fifth stay but surely not our last! The hot tub was amazing, the cabin itself is well appointed, and the holiday decor is the most perfect touch!

Our favorite place

My husband, our 2 dogs and I have stayed in many VRBO properties, but this is our favorite. I can feel the stress melt away just driving up the driveway. This was our fourth stay at the cabin. It is always immaculate and the property manager is appropriately communicative. The view from the back porch is amazing! The hot tub is super nice. Our dogs love the large fenced-in yard and all of the doggie amenities. Thanks for another wonderful stay and we will definitely be back.

Perfect hideaway!

Wow! From the moment we pulled up, to the day we left, only positive things to say about Courage Cabin. Beautiful home, so many nice touches. It smelled so good! Comfy beds, clean, modern bathrooms, fully stocked coffee bar, and so much more! The hot tub was already heated when we arrived. The deck had amazing views! We took our son snowboarding at Applachain Ski resort, which was a quick 30 min ride. Boone was close by as well, and such a neat town. We are already booking our next vacation at this hidden gem.

Love it!

Our second time to Courage Cabin. Such a great place! Has everything you could ask for and is very clean! Our first time was back in 2015. We got engaged that trip. This trip in 2024 we noticed all the upgrades they had done. All fantastic! Courage Cabin will always be a special place for us!

Fabulous Cabin Stay

This was our second time staying at the Courage Cabin, and once again, it was an absolute amazing time. The cabin is well equipped with anything you could need during your stay. The cleanliness of the house is impeccable. The wood burning fireplace is just an added bonus. We brought our own wood and were able to enjoy a roaring hot fire every night we were there. The hot tub is also a great amenity. It is relaxing to go have a soak on those cold, mountain nights. The owner Jill is wonderful! She is responsive and always there if you need anything. We look forward to our next stay...but until then, thank you for such a great experience!!!

Amazing View Cabin Loaded with Amenities

Can’t say enough about how relaxing our 6 night stay was. From the cozy indoors with unique decor to the kitchen stocked with everything one would need to the wonderful bath items provided to the outdoor deck with amazing views, especially the beautiful sunrises and relaxing hot tub this cabin has it all. Total privacy was provided and in the evenings it was such a joy to grill dinner on the very nice grill, enjoy a glass of wine and to relax in the hot tub after steep hikes during the day. We didn’t use the fire pit however it looked like a wonderful place to sit at night and enjoy a fire. Even though I had my kindle with me for reading I chose to read two books provided in the bookshelf while there. Location is convenient to grocery and restaurants in West Jefferson and not that far from Boone. Courage Cabin gets my highest recommendation.

Blue Ridge Bonanza

The cabin was as advertised but beyond. The view was priceless, the deck area so peaceful, a place to be alone with your thoughts. The hot tub so warm and relaxing after days spent hiking steep trails. We spent 6 nights here and loved the retreat we came back to every day. The fenced property was perfect for our two dogs. Everything one would need was supplied. Loved the decor, rustic yet elegant. The European touches and original art added a sense of warmth and comfort. Loved the large amazingly stocked kitchen. The fireplace could be so inviting however we chose not to use it as I like my rooms cool. Check in was flawless…what little communication I had was promptly answered. Fire pit looked wonderful but again we did not use. Bath products supplied were beyond expectations and reminded me of my favorite spa. Steep drive to the property but absolutely no problem. Great location to stores, Ashe County Cheese, great hiking trails and some restaurants.

Perfect 5 Star Getaway

This very wonderful cabin in the woods is absolutely perfect. It has everything you could possibly need, plus lots of little extras. Everything is so well explained and organized. We cooked dinner in the beautifully equipped kitchen every night, had breakfast on the deck, baked, hiked, read, watched movies, etc. It is furnished in the most lovely, cozy and luxurious way. We were there in early March but would love to come back in all seasons.

Wonderful Stay!

The Courage Cabin was an amazing little space for our Anniversary week vacation. My husband and I loved how cozy the cabin was and all the amenities that they thought of for our stay. The back deck being gated was great for our little dog and the view was absolutely amazing of the New River. The hot tub was huge and super fun. Having a real wood burning fireplace was so romantic on the really cold nights! They provided some wood, which was such a luxury! Communication with Jill was seamless, from check-in, throughout our stay and check-out!! We will certainly be staying here again. It definitely felt like our own little oasis in the mountains, but so close to town! Thank you for your hospitality!

Wonderful Getaway!

Courage Cabin was perfect for our Anniversary week vacation. It was cozy, well taken care of and very clean! The view of the river from the large deck was amazing and the hot tub was awesome. The owner Jill was very responsive with any communication we had. The best part was sitting in front of the fireplace during the cold nights! We will definitely stay here again!

Absolutely Perfect!

We rented this precious cabin for a long weekend after a tax deadline. It was remote and cozy - exactly what we were looking for! Not too far from West Jefferson, and about 40 minutes from Blowing Rock.

Most amazing cabin ever!

We weren’t expecting a super lot from such a reasonably priced cabin, but this place ended up being the best place I’ve ever comfortably stayed away from home! I am very much a homebody and wanted to find a honeymoon location somewhere comfortable, yet still fun and this was DEFINITELY it!!! Between the super nice interior of the house and the amazing outside space, we had such a blast! Hanging out by the campfire… chilling in the hammock reading a book… and in the super relaxing hot tub when it cooled off in the evening made for the perfect fairytale honeymoon! We will be visiting every year (at least once a year) for the rest of our lives! I also need to add that the one time we had a small issue with the electricity late one evening, the owner was super nice and had it taken care of the very next day.

Our stay is never long enough!

We booked our 2 week July stay last December! We have stayed at this cabin since 2015. We only missed last year because it was completely booked when we finally had our event schedule. So we made up for that with 2 full weeks this year! It's perfection to us! It's only 95 minutes from our home yet worlds away in feel. I would never leave my dogs in anyone else's care for that long so having the ability to have them with us was priceless. The property is fenced but we still walk our dogs on leashes because we have a couple of escape artists! It's good for us to get out with them, too. The owner is always available and responds quickly! We suggest guests stop at Corbett's Curb Market just off 421 for the best produce, Joe's Lemonade and boiled peanuts. They have local meats, too. Vidalia, in Boone, is our favorite restaurant but was fully booked when we called for a reservation so call a few days ahead! New River Brewing in West Jefferson has great food, too. We tried Smokey Mountain Barbecue in West Jefferson this year. We live near Lexington, NC, which is famous for it's BBQ, so we're picky! It was VERY good! The BBQ and fried chicken were super but I was extra impressed by the Brunswick stew! There are multiple versions of it, like BBQ, depending on region. This one is heavy on tomato and FULL of flavor. I wish I'd brought a quart home! We also got a takeout pizza from WJ Slice. Also, very good. Warm up left overs on low heat in a skillet/saucepan covered. It will make the bottom crust crispy! Extra yum!! Back to the cabin.... Super comfortable beds and pillows and linens. We like the kitchen appliances so much we bought the same ones when we replaced originals! The main level bath seems a bit tight - after all, the original cabin didn't have indoor plumbing at all - but it's actually plenty big! Weather is typically cooler and less humid than where we live. Very refreshing! The hot tub is great any time of day and the long range mountain views are amazing! Get up early at least one day to watch the sunrise. It will take your breath away! We highly recommend, but don't tell just anyone - we don't want this cabin to get booked before we can get back there!!!

Not intended for a week long stay

We spent a week at this property. The location was beautiful. This property would be great for an overnight stay, but it’s definitely not a place that’s intended for more than a night or two. Pros: the location is great, the outdoor space is very nice. It’s great that there was a washer and dryer it made drying wet swim suits an ease. Cons: the cabin itself is nice enough, but was definitely not equipped for a family of 4 for a week long stay. Very dark inside most rooms are only illuminated by lamps or small track lighting and it’s like solving a cryptic maze to find a light switch. It’s unbearable to sit in the living room because it reeks of wood smoke and ashes from the fireplace especially on windy days. We never used the fireplace, it smelled like this even without us using it. Don’t plan on lounging on the outdoor hammock because it’s literally just hanging for looks. This was a real bummer because I had pictured myself laying out there relaxing, but it was literally hanging there by a broken s hook. The hot tub was nice enough on the first day, but beware nobody comes to maintain it if you are there for an extended stay so by day two we were messaging the owners who gave us instructions of how to put chemicals in it ourselves, but that rendered it useless until the following day. You are given enough paper products for a 1 night stay… example a family of four was given one partially used roll of toilet paper for a weeks stay. This meant running 10 plus miles away for basic items that you would assume would be included in a week long stay that cost more than $2,000.00. There’s nowhere to put your trash. Obviously a family of four accumulated more than a small kitchen trash can worth of trash over a weeks time. After a day or so I messaged the opener asking what we should do with the trash as we didn’t want to leave it outside because of animals etc. Her only response was to refer to the welcome manual which stated you are responsible for taking your trash with you when you leave. So that meant frequent trips to a trash recycling center 4 miles away with steaming hot stinking garbage in your car. The neighbors dog barked insanely loud beginning at 5 am and lasting non stop all day. It made relaxing outside virtually impossible. There is no hot water in the kitchen sink without the tap being on for about 5 minutes. There’s a shower in the upstairs bathroom that is useless unless you sit in the bath to use it.

Two sisters visiting

My first time I had planned a vrbo myself. It was easy to book. The location was great to West Jefferson, where my husband and I had purchased property to build on. My husband passed away so we never built our retirement home. I was close enough to ride by and see the property again, along with my two sister's prior homes. I was able to go to the Emporium where I loved shopping. I also shopped at the Sisters store and the Doggie store and the Outfitter place ( unsure name). I had hoped to find a tote bag with West Jefferson embroidered but unable to find one. We also went to the Lotta Donut place and got a huge Bavarian cream filled donut and then went to buy some cheese at the Ashe Cheese Store. I love the old standing places still in that area. Since it rained the entire trip we only ventured out once we arrived because we were afraid we might not travel well without 4 wheel drive, but the road was easy to get to the cabin. The day the rain slacked we had an hour in the hot tub. That was relaxing and I am looking into having one now! Courage had everything we could ever need! Our one trip out was to Ingles for groceries since we planned on eating out but weather wasn't the best this time. Sorry, we left a kitchen light we couldn't find the switch to turn off. The Welcome Book was detailed but we would have liked a lighting diagram for that! Lol The cabin must have a history and I would have loved to read about it. That was thoughtful to have the Ingles fob on the keys so we got a grocery savings! The trash dump was convenient close by as we left town. We enjoyed a few days of chit chat since my sister and I are hours away from each other. Having pets there was a huge plus or I would have never visited and traveled without them. We would have stayed longer if Courage Cabin had been available!

Best Experience

Hands down, this is the best cabin rental we have ever had, and I don't say that lightly. We rent 3-4 cabins a year. This cabin is BEAUTIFUL and has so much charm and character, so many interesting things to look at, and the host (Jill) was so friendly and helpful. We especially appreciated the warm welcome and special attention to details. You do not need to bring anything aside from yourself and food. Everything is so well stocked, from the kitchen to the bathrooms, you will feel at home. In the past, I bring so much of our own comforts from home, but this time, I didn't even need to unpack them. The private property is GORGEOUS, and it being fenced in was so perfect not for just us, but also my pup. The view is also magnificent. We were certainly be back.

Third stay here and hopefully not the last

There is simply no better place to stay in the Fleetwood/West Jefferson area than Courage Cabin. I was hesitant to even offer this review for fear it will be even harder to catch available again! We have stayed here three times and it is incredible every single time. Such a special place for our family. The owners have thought of everything you need and then some! Excellent location to everything too....great hiking trails... charming little town....ride along the parkway.... venture into Boone, etc. We recommend the Julian Price Memorial Park lake trail...so beautiful and you can rent kayaks or canoes there for a small fee. You'll want to spend much of your time at this cabin though. So peaceful, inspiring and cozy. Great space to escape the chaos of the world with those you love most. We love this place like it's our own. Thank you so much to Jill and family for allowing us to make so many wonderful memories at Courage Cabin! You guys are awesome!
