About this property

Looking for a quiet place where you can rest and relax and sleeps up to 18 people. Like to feel the sea breeze on your face and have only a few minutes’ walk to the beach? Come and stay in this quirky retro environment, 20 mins south of Whanganui and 45 mins North West of Palmerston North.
RedBach Retreat is nestled amongst unique landscaped gardens, the main building containing the communal kitchen and lounge, and a double bedroom. Together with the 6 individual cabins adjoining, there is sleeping accommodation for up to 18 people. All beds have memory foam topper pads, pillows, and quilts. We now have two kitchens and there are two bathrooms and two showers.
Linen and towels are provided. High chair and one porta cot are available on request at no charge. There are numerous outdoor dining and seating areas and a gas BBQ and gas is supplied. There is a cosy warm log fire in the lounge with fire guard for those wintery nights and a fire in the large kitchen area also. All cabins have their own electric heaters and electric blankets.
There is plenty of parking within the property for vehicles. Provision of locked facilities to keep beach toys safe is available on request.
We will allow dogs if agreed on before a booking is made. Stock up on groceries before you come from Whanganui, Marton or Palmerston North as there are no shops in the village of Koitiata. Turakina Service Station is 8 km out on the main road with petrol, diesel, and limited groceries.

Easter Family Get Together

There are 8 adults and 8 children in our family who live in 4 different areas of the North Island. This was a great location for us all to come together. The children absolutely loved the batch and the closeness to the park, fishing and the sea. Very relaxing with enough room and comfortable beds for us all. Barbara the host was friendly and helpful. A great quirky place to chill, read a book and have fun.

Spacious, quirky, comfy

Our family of 2 adults and 2 teens really enjoyed Redbach Retreat. So much space - and the teens loved each having their own cabin! The kitchen(s) had everything we needed for cooking, and we enjoyed sampling some board games from the massive stash of games and books. The beds were okay in terms of comfort (not hotel-grade mattresses, but fine for a bach). We were able to leave our little dog at the bach when we were going out for the day - she was happy to relax in the large, safely enclosed garden. The only downside was that the beach at Koitiata was difficult to access. There is a river that seperates the houses from the beach and you had to wade across to get to the sea. It's a pleasant 20 to 30 minute drive to the town of Whanganui, which is lovey to visit. Nice to have outings to the town and surrounds, but also great to just chill at the bach. Great spot for some quality family time.

Perfect family holiday getaway

We loved our stay at the red bach. Is close to the beach and playground. The place was clean, spacious and had everything we needed for our stay. Great that we could bring our dogs along too.

Rustic Charm

This beautiful family and pet orientated gem is most definitely worth the stay. The Hosts are very accommodating and friendly to deal with. We all thoroughly enjoyed the rustic charm and warmth of the stunning surroundings artistically created by hosts. Thank you. We look forward to returning. Oh and the children loved the arcade :D

Perfect Holiday Retreat

What an amazing placeRed Bach Retreat by the sea is. The hosts Barbara and Terry were incredibly accomodating and friendly. We loved our time there- it is perfect for a family group as we all had our own space but also a shared space were we get get together to mix and mingle. Great space for whānau...

Really enjoyed our stay. Didn't expect for there to be the amount of spaces available for everyone. Toy House was a great addition for our tamariki. Adults played with the puzzles and read some books. Would recommend for big groups and we look forward to returning soon. Even better that we could take our kurī along with us.

Great spot

Great communication and a warm welcome from Barbara. We loved this spot. The seperate cabins is something to keep in mind if you’re travelling in winter you’ll need to be going outside to go toilet etc but if that’s your style this is great and there’s two great fireplaces to warm up the living spaces. A nice short walk down to the coast/ river and a great place for stretching legs and watching sunset. Bach itself has everything you could need - the games selection and play spaces were magic for our kids.

Red Bach Retreat was Red Bach Gallery for a number of years selling our hand made copper sculptures. Due to injury we closed the gallery and are now running Writers Retreats, Sculpture Workshops, and I have written a book and made a series of sculptures for the last 6 years called The Secret Keeper. We have also opened it up for people to come and relax and have some time out in a restful environment to get away from their busy lifestyles. Come, visit and enjoy your stay with us.
