About this property

Cozy Cottage at Lavender Farm near Jack Daniel's Distillery, with breakfast

Come stay on this 1860s farm once owned by famous distiller Jack Daniel's brother, a few miles from Lynchburg and Fayetteville. Take a scenic drive from Music City Nashville, outdoorsy Chattanooga, or space and rocket Huntsville. Staying at this historic farm is an experience all its own. If you are traveling with friends, check with us to see if there is room in the farmhouse B&B.
A regular booking now comes with an all-organic breakfast for two delivered to your door to enjoy in the privacy of your cottage. Breakfast choices depend on what is in season but generally consists of an Egg Fritata with pasture raised bacon, fresh garden vegetables, biscuits with lavender honey, and a seasonal fruit and orange juice. Other options can be discussed - we aim to fill you up with something healthy to start your day. No need to guess or read labels, we have done that for you! Peace of mind at last!

You will love the view of the deer and sheep from your window, or while enjoying some porch moments. The Cottage is part of Mulberry Lavender Farm ( in the quaint town of Mulberry, with a rich history all its own).

Amenities include a full bathroom with a large soaking tub, and separate shower. There was no WIFI in 1860 and there is none now unless your phone provides you with a hotspot, which most cell phones do work here. There is a small kitchen with refrigerator and coffee maker. A hearth to keep away the chill.

The cottage is located on a working farm with livestock and wildlife, so caution and respect for the animals is required. There are dogs and cats on the premises, and although we love pets, any visiting pets are only accepted on an individual basis, after evaluating the risk they may pose to pets, free-ranging chickens, livestock, and the local wildlife.

The whole farm, including the house and grounds is a non-tobacco environment. This means no smoking, no smokeless tobacco (chew), nor vaping. Tobacco puts the lavender at risk of being infected with TMV (Tobacco Mosaic Virus).

You can shop for homegrown lavender products, bronze art, and regional crafts in the farm store. Pure honey from the farm's bees, and Lavender Essential Oil, Navajo Churro Wool, and lots more. Your breakfast will include some of our culinary lavender products, straight from the farm (Herbes de Provence, Alderwood Smoked Seasalt with our Royal Velvet Lavender, and if available Lavender Honey).

The Cozy Cottage is a tiny home likely built in the mid-1800's. The home is old, but well kept and even has a giant soak tub. We enjoyed the peace of being on this unique farm. During our stay the weather was lovely and we slept with only the door open to allow fresh air through the screened door. We enjoyed sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch while reading and watching the farm animals roam about. Breakfast was fabulous, everything was fresh and organic. Absolutely lovely stay.

Relaxing

We were told by the owner about what to expect and it was exactly as told. No frills but cozy setting on the property of a working farm. It's wonderful to be "unplugged" and to just enjoy the sound of the leaves rustling, the animals, and the warmth of this tiny little cottage. Our hostess was a delight and the breakfast that she provided was wonderful. Wish we could have had one more day to unwind and relax. Such a pleasant surprise!

Great quiet country get away.

My wife Nancy and I had a great time staying with Anita and Bob last week. We came down for "The Jack" BBQ festival and staying on their farm was the perfect distance from town and allowed for a nice romantic break. They were the perfect hosts. Bob's breakfasts were great. We spent quite a bit of time talking with them. They made sure we had everything we needed and were very accommodating in anything we asked. If you want to get away from it all in a rustic quiet country setting, this is the place for you.

The farm and our hosts were amazing.

We stayed last weekend and loved the whole experience. The lavender was beautiful and in just a day we were already attached to all of the farm animals. The cabin was quaint and comfortable with everything you needed. The breakfast was perfect and just added to the fresh farm feel. We loved talking to Anita and Bob about farming animals and lavender. We will go back and look forward to seeing all the animals, eating breakfast again, and great advice and conversation. Thank you Anita and Bob for sharing your farm.

Disconnect and Decompress in the Country

We stayed at Anita and Bob's cottage on their property for two nights in June. No Wifi, no television, no roaring highway or city noises. In the country, off the beaten path and wonderful. There is a wall AC unit, thank goodness, because we were there during a very hot week! Horses, sheep, geese, chickens, and lavender. Great breakfast cooked by Anita, she brought it out to our cottage each morning. Lovely conversation as well. We would go back! Can't wait to see what they continue to do the property to improve it. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to get away. Also awesome lightening bugs in the evening! Sit on the front porch and watch the show. Nearby is Jack Daniels and George Dickels distilleries.

LOVED OUR STAY

Mulberry Lavender Farm was exactly what I hoped and more! Anita is an amazing host and went above and beyond necessary to make sure our special trip was one we’d never forget. Our all organic homemade breakfast was to die for. I mean it was hands down delicious! The scenery was enchanting. Horses, hound dogs, geese, sheep, and Sightings of deer along the property line. It was a wonderful place to unwind and relax. We stayed in the cottage and it was so cute & quaint. Decorated with antiques. It was much larger inside than anticipated. Very very clean with the aroma of lavender. Our puppy was warmly welcomed and so were we! I HIGHLY recommend & definitely will return if ever in the area again. Thanks Anita & Bob! Emily, Alex & Max

Darling farm and lovely accommodations

We so enjoyed our time on the farm and only wish it were longer! The cottage was sweet with all you need for a nice rest. Breakfast each day was fabulous. I can still taste the fresh eggs and lavender honey. Yum. Loved sitting on the porch and watching the animals in the morning and the fireflies at night. Anita is a gracious host who shared a ton of history about the house, land and area. I bought a few items from their store to use at home. I can’t wait to go back.

Nature Break

My husband and I enjoyed the "unplugged" weekend, seeing deer and the farm's livestock right out the cottage windows was a special treat, and driving into town for Jack Daniel's tours and BBQ dinners. The breakfasts were amazing! I left with some lavender plants and soaps and sachets for friends - a win all around!

Great place to relax after touring Lynchburg

The Lavender Farm is a wonderful respite from the rest of the world. The rooms are exquisite, the food amazing and you feel like a part of the farm family. Everything you need to relax is provided from a soaking tub to homemade lavender soaps on your pillow. The furnishing are museum quality and the history of the home is unique. If you want to enjoy a hidden gem, this is for you. Where else would you find sheep grazing among hundreds of lavender plants?

About the host

Hosted by Anita Scheelings

Host profile image
Anita and Bob Scheelings, formerly owned and operated Skull Valley Lavender Farm in Arizona, and in 2016 started Mulberry Lavender Farm in Mulberry, TN. The couple and all the farm animals (and even a lot of lavender plants) relocated to their new home on Mulberry Creek. The farm grows lavender, cut flowers, healthy veggies, and raise Navajo Churro Sheep, and Heritage Chickens, Geese, and Turkeys.

Why they chose this property

Tennessee is lush and beautiful and you will hardly find friendlier people anywhere. From the small farm in Arizona, we searched long for the right farm with the right attributes for diversified, restorative farming, and the right soil and climate for lavender, and truly feel we hit the jackpot with this beautiful historic farm in Lincoln County.

What makes this property unique

Jack Daniel's older brother Wiley used to own this farm. He was a Civil War veteran, surviving at least three of the main battles including Gettysburg. The farm is a haven for wildlife, and Mulberry Creek borders on the west - Almost any time of the day you can look up from whatever you are doing and see deer in the fields taking an interest in you. The horses and sheep are peacefully grazing on the lush pastures. The early settlers of this farm had the good sense to plant lots of nut trees, so we can enjoy gathering nuts like pecans, and walnuts. Old houses and old trees always make you wonder, what it has 'seen'. To see the rough saw marks in the real wood floorboards. Nothing being quite straight. It is all about character. For folks looking for just a bed in a hotel we are not the right place - If you are looking to unwind and enjoy the experience of farm life and a home that will speak to you - Come on over!!
