Cold with hard beds
During our stay, the outside temps were often in the single digits...unusually cold even for this area. The max setting on the thermostat was 74, which meant the main level was tolerable, the upstairs master was toasty, and the finished basement was almost uninhabitable...too cold to relax or sleep comfortably. The gas log furnace in the basement den has no chimney or exhaust pipe to evacuate the buildup of fumes and CO2 that occurs once you turn it on. It is certainly not anything one should leave on all night as a heat source. If one reads the welcome/instructions letter from the owners, you are cautioned to "crack a window", which obviously defeats the purpose and allows cold air to enter the space. The bedding was so firm and hard (with the exception of 1 bed on the main floor bedroom) it was difficult to sleep comfortably in the master suite king upstairs. Memory foam, or whatever the mattress material is, must be an acquired taste - one with which we had no familiarity, and after becoming familiar with it, no desire to ever sleep on it again. The gas cooktop had to be lit with a lighter (provided) as the electric/spark igniters aren't working.Great location and potential. The bottle of "two buck Chuck" wine was surprisingly decent.
