Perfect!

This is simply an awesome house – the majesty of which the online pictures do not adequately capture. • This is an huge one-level home with multiple wings radiating off of premium well-stocked cathedral ceiling kitchen: 1) a dining room wing flowing into a large breezy well-furnished screened porch with distant water view; 2) a master bedroom wing (with ensuite bathroom & dressing room / closet / gas fireplace); 3) a guest bedroom wing with bedrooms & hallway bathrooms; 4) a living room wing with cathedral ceiling & wood fireplace, & full surround of windows and doors for cross ventilation; large garden with umbrella, eating & snack tables, chaise lounges, gas grille, and hammocks. Premium furniture and decoration throughout, exceeding expectations. • Unbelievable sense of of quiet -- and opportunity to chill. • Well stocked pantry, supplies, and stocked bar! Stereo, TV, beach chairs. • Extraordinarily responsive, friendly & professional owner (Ann) committed to your enjoyment and privacy. • Complete privacy, surrounded by trees and large mowed fields which includes blueberry field, including some blow-your-socks-off raspberries. • Minutes to Blue Hill, Castine, Brooklin, and Stonington, supermarkets, farmers’ markets, lobster shack, general store & gas station; Arborvine and Brooklin Inn are excellent nearby restaurants, Tinder Hearth for world class breads & pizza (must reserve online). • This is the ultimate getaway if privacy, quiet, and access are important.

Perfect Maine Experience

This was our second extended stay in this beautiful home. It is secluded, yet close to all the amenities of Blue Hill and numerous nearby home-based dining options (Tinder Hearth, Roaring Lion, El El Frijoles, Strong Brewery). If you prefer to cook at home, the kitchen is very well-equipped. We had a wonderful time at local beaches, hiking trails, and shops. The screened porch provided a perfect spot for morning coffee or for viewing the stunning sunsets. Kudos to our host, Ann, who even surprised us with a perfect little red chair for our granddaughter. Five stars all around - you will love it!

A Beautiful and Peaceful Gem

If you are looking for a beautiful and peaceful respite from the busy world - this is your place! A true gem in every respect - from the homes design, artwork, beautiful kitchen, serine fireplace and wonderous views. Communication with the property's owner, Ann, was a true pleasure. The house was spotlessly clean with attention to every detail that you could imagine. Our family enjoyed every minute and would love to return!!!!!

Peaceful interlude

We had a lovely getaway at Ann’s home. Peaceful and cozy. Our young children loved exploring the fields and woods. Best croissants were from nearby Tinder Hearth. Beautiful hike at Barred Island Preserve.

About the host

Host profile image
I'm a business owner in New York who revels in the peace and natural beauty of the unspoiled Blue Hill Peninsula.

Why they chose this property

After vacationing for some years in Maine, I decided to build a house. I chose Caterpillar Hill for the views and soon found 12 acres that seemed perfect. Working with a local architect who had trained at the Yale School of Architecture, we discussed the plans for a year before we were ready to build. The house would hug the site and, because I wanted a space where a family could gather but also have alone time, it would spread out like a pinwheel on one level, with steps to accommodate the slope of the site. No detail was overlooked and the end result was the house I had always wanted. It's welcoming, calm, and peaceful. And it's very hard to leave.

What makes this property unique

With plenty of space for families and groups of friends to gather, the house also offers plenty of privacy with the bedrooms occupying two separate wings. Three full baths mean that no one ever has to wait. An open-plan kitchen is perfect for gathering over cocktails while cooking together. Plenty of seating indoors and out, with a comfortable sofa and armchairs on the large screened porch. Plan to spend time at the house because you won't want to tear yourself away.
