Gem in the woods

We were very excited to find this property! Our family is from Westminster and we’ve outgrown guest rooms and couches. Renting two hotel rooms in Bratt or Springfield or Keene has been a drag. This was great! Everyone got their own bed, plenty of bathrooms and showers, quiet setting. Beautiful views, and just a few minutes to both grandparents! The teens had fun trying to figure out who Ted Williams was and looking up the family’s histories. House is full of memorabilia for Ted and his wife. A bear game by one of the mornings to poke through the trash, we didn’t see him, but were then glued to the windows hoping to see him come back. Definitely coming back here every visit to VT!

A Must for Red Sox Fans

We stayed here during a recent trip to the area for golfing. While not baseball enthusiasts, we very much enjoyed the Ted Williams and Red Sox theme. So much history and memorabilia, it was also educational! You could feel the passion his family had when renovating and decorating the place. The view was fantastic and the location was easy to access and find. The house was very clean and accommodating. It had all the utensils we needed, including a coffee bar. We hope to stay again next year!

Unfortunately, we didn't have the best weather, but this space was still amazing!!! Communication was easy with the owners, and they were very responsive. I loved how things were labeled for ease. This was a perfect and beautiful getaway

Wonderful Stay

The visit was fantastic. The owner/manager of the property was very communicative and quick to respond with any questions. The place was a wonderful house to visit with friends. Plenty of space to gather in the kitchen/living room area. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thank you for a great time!

A Home Run for our family

Ted Williams' onetime home turned out to be the perfect place for our little family reunion, with a variety of seating and sleeping arrangements indoors and expansive grounds outside. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen roomy and well stocked. Not everybody in our party cared about all the Wiliams-related artwork and memorabilia, but I was thrilled to be amongst it all -- and some of it is quite impressive. The location is secluded -- but so is practically everything in this part of Vermont, so the need to travel some distance for groceries, restaurants, etc. is a given. It's such a lovely area, you won't mind the drives. Anytime I'm bringing a large group of people to southeastern Vermont, I'll hope to book this house again.

Wonderful home and property

There was plenty of space inside and outside for kids to adventure while the adults could gather in the kitchen/living room area. Large dining room with the fireplace also gave the adults an area at night while kids slept to socialize. The bathtub and sauna were added bonuses, b the property grounds themselves were amazing to explore!

Vermont's Finest

We arrived shortly after the southern Vermont area was hit by devastating flooding. Roads near the Splendid Splinter were being repaired and upgraded, but the Splinter was easily accessible and high and dry. The site has a beautiful overlook of the Connecticut River and New Hampshire. And that's before you go into the house. The house is a wonderful mix of old and new that commemorates Ted Williams (Boston Red Sox #9 Hall of famer,) his wife Delores, and their family. The house was renovated a couple of years ago and all kitchen appliances and bathrooms are high-end and modern. Everything you need, other than food, is supplied. The weather was hot, 80+, while we were there, but the central air conditioning kept us very comfortable indoors. We've rented other high quality places, but none have been better than this. I would go back any time. Maybe in colder weather so we could enjoy the woodstove and fireplaces. Lots to do in the area. We could easily have stayed more than five nights.

Absolutely amazing

This house is down right amazing. Ignoring the fact that this was owned and is adorned with memorabilia from the greatest red sock of all time, the house is gorgeous. With wide pine floors, hand hewn post and beam construction, beautiful landscaping, and views to die for this property is amazing. We had 10 people and were very comfortable. Adrienne and Claudia were the best hosts you could ask for. We will try to come back as much as possible. Highly recommend!!

Family Reunion

We rented both properties at the Splendid Splinter to celebrate a 50th anniversary as well as family reunion. The home is amazing with wonderful history as well as beautiful construction and finishes. It is peaceful and quiet with great views from the decks. I would certainly recommend this to anyone looking to get away from the crowds but to have some rustic elegance while away.

Even in the chilly early spring it was exquisite—and the story around Ted Williams family was fun

It was delightful— even when we had a small heater issue, it was fixed immediately. The only concern was some of the pictures on the Miss Vermont room we’re not appropriate for a little boys. It was only soft porn—but any is offensive. We HOPE to go back

Beautiful setting, super house and so much fun!

We initially found house due to location, chose it for its amenities (and the fun twist for baseball nut members of family), and fully enjoyed our stay.

Fabulous property with great history

Splendid Splinter is a wonderful place to relax and get away. It is very clean and nicely decorated and has a breathtaking view. The communication was fast and easy! The host was more than responsive and accommodating. She also took time to show us around the house and so much history that it contained. It’s like a museum which also happens to be a residence. We are looking forward to staying at this beautiful home again in the future!

The one where I turn 50

My husband, friends and I had the most amazing time at The Splendid Splinter to celebrate my 50th birthday. The house was spacious, beautifully decorated and the perfect getaway for a fun weekend with friends. If you’re a baseball fan, this is a ‘home run’ of a house, and even if you’re not, you’ll still be in love with it! Claudia, the owner, met us outside and was just as excited as us that we were there...she even helped bring in our carload of stuff!! We had an amazing time just relaxing on the deck taking in the beautiful view and huge fires at night around the gigantic fire pit. We loved the house and every minute of our weekend!! Thank you Claudia!!

Splendid Splinter

Our stay at this beautiful retreat was 5 star from beginning to end, waking up to the most beautiful sunrise. The house was beautifully decorated and furnished and filled with Ted Williams memorabilia and pictures that spoke volumes of his family. We felt like we walked into his life and were welcomed with open arms. To further enhance this we met his daughter Claudia who explained the significance of some of her decorating and her reasons for some of her restorations. She is a fascinating woman whom I could sit and listen to endlessly...she spoke of her family with such love and warmth. All this is reflected in the home. We had everything we needed and more. Appliances are all top of the line, the kitchen was wonderful to cook in. The firepit and games left for us to use was wonderful..we had 4 older kids with us (17 - 23 year olds) and they were kept occupied the whole week. The caretaker Adrian was wonderful...we only needed 1 small thing and she accommodated us quickly. She was also warm and friendly. We explored all the small towns like Keen, Walpole where we discovered Spencers for lunch, Bellows Falls where we had the most amazing breakfast at a place called Moondog Cafe, King Arthurs which was about an hour away but worth the ride, and shopped at Vermont Country Store. I was a very enjoyable and relaxing week. We would definitely come back in the future and recommend it to our friends and family.

Great Weekend!

My husband and I spent the weekend at this beautiful property. It was quiet, peaceful, and the accommodations were perfect! Everything is very high-end and well thought out and we were lacking for nothing. The kitchen was a dream to cook in, and the views were just spectacular from every room! The owner went above and beyond in every aspect, and we will absolutely be back as soon as we can.
