The perfect Acadia vacation rental

The property exceeded my family’s expectations and provided the perfect location to enjoy all that Mt. Desert island and Acadia have to offer. The rooms are comfortable and provided ample space for everyone to spread out. The kitchen was perfect for cooking and allowed for our large party of 10 to eat meals together. The kayaks allowed us to explore the sound and hunt for schools of mackerel in the morning. The large deck and wooded property were perfect for bird/nature watching, including waking up to the sounds of loons each morning. Samual was incredible to work with during the booking process and was very responsive to all our questions during our stay. He clearly enjoys being able to share a place he and his family love with others. In addition, Garrett (the onsite grounds keeper) provided quick, in person help when needed. My family has a long, multigenerational history visiting the island, and we had a truly wonderful and magical week that meant a lot to everyone.

Amazing!

This is an absolutely beautiful location with a comfortable house and many amenities. Regardless of age or interests, everyone of us enjoyed our stay. The rocky shoreline was a big hit with our younger set, while the adults marveled at sunsets from the deck. We had easy access to Acadia; bird watching throughout MDI; a boat trip to see nesting puffins and playful seals; hiking to Cadillac Mountain to watch the to the sunrise; and a catered dinner on the deck. This was a very special vacation for all of us.

Family Getaway

The house is perfectly located on a beautiful sound that gave an amazing way to begin and end each day. From the wildlife to the sunsets, it created an amazing backdrop for a great family vacation. The house was well equipped and provides comfortable accommodations for the entire family. Located right across the street from a trailhead for hiking and convenient to bar harbor, but not in the all the traffic. The owner and caretaker were super responsive and made the entire visit seem less. Great place and would recommend.

Fantastic Stay

We just arrived home after our stay and amazing is an understatement. The house is the most well stocked VRBO I’ve ever stayed at, especially with things for families with small children. The location was perfect with a short drive getting you to several great places around the island. Definitely recommend. Pick this place for the sunset views alone.

Incredible Maine

We could not have loved this home more — with 7 adults and 3 toddlers, we all had our own space inside while nestled in an idyllic park-like environment. Kitchen had everything we needed for many family-style meals around the huge eat-in kitchen table. Communication with the owner and on-site caretaker was a breeze both before and during the trip, and they made sure travel cribs were available for the kids so we could travel without. Can’t recommend this home enough!

Great Gathering Spot

The house is just as it looks in the pics. You can tell from the minute you walk in that there have been a lot of fun times had here. The location is amazing and the view from almost every room is spectacular. We had several fires out on the point as the sun set over Somes Sound, which I will never forget. The owners were easy to work with and the property manager was great. We did use Chef Greg one night, which I'd highly recommend. Having said all this, there are some rustic elements. This house is a grand old dame, but she's probably due for a facelift, particularly when it comes to the bathrooms. Don't hesitate to book this place. We are a family of 8 that created some priceless memories here that we will never forget. Thanks to the Hargraves family for sharing this treasure with us.

Large home, Excellent location, and beautiful view for friends and family

Quiet, conveniently located for visiting Acadia Natl Park and Bar Harbor. Plenty of room to spread-out for family and friends. Cabin is very well stocked with kitchen utensils for preparing meals. A variety of birds visited the area while we relaxed on the spacious deck. Management was very responsive when we had questions. We have stayed in many VRBOs and would stay here again.

Welcome Fall

Another fantastic week at Small Cove Point in the books. This is an iconic MDE property that is the perfect home base for hiking, biking, and generally touring Acadia NP. We also enjoyed using the available kayaks and SUPs to explore Somes Sound. Though close to everything, the size of the property creates a wonderfully isolated feel. Our group loved preparing meals in the very well equipped family kitchen and of course having a cocktail watching the sunset on the spacious deck. of note: guests at SCP are treated to "lots" of everything, towels, pillows, cozy comforters, puzzles, deck chairs, wood for the fire to name a few Thank you, again for sharing your beautiful property.

Special Location

Small Cove Point is a truly special place. The house is warm and comfortable--like returning to a family retreat (except not our family, but we were grateful to borrow the experience for a while!) The view from the deck or out the picture windows is stunning. The beach was perfect for our little people to dig and wade and explore. We launched kayaks with ease. We ate at Abel's (more than once) and appreciated easy access to the quieter towns on MDI, while still being close to Bar Harbor when we needed groceries or wanted to go there for some other reason. We hiked into Acadia across the road. The split bedrooms allowed our two families quiet and privacy--particular great to have a quiet room down the hall for our littlest to nap without worrying about our elementary kids' shenanigans. The kitchen had everything we needed. The caretaker greeted us, showed us around, and then left us to ourselves. He seemed like such a nice guy and we appreciated knowing he was there if we needed a hand with something. Our only sadness is not being able to book next year! Recommend highly--we'd love to return sometime.

Amazing Experience

The deck and view are the best, and the house is close behind. Good layout for families and the owners and caretaker make you feel super welcome. Took advantage of the Chef, Greg, and it was well worth it. Secluded location and so quiet, but easy access to everything, the best of both worlds.

Stunning Sunsets and Brilliant Stars

This home was the perfect place to come back to at the end of a day playing on Mount Desert Island. We so enjoyed sitting on the deck after biking and/or kayaking, watching first the sun set and later the stars reflected in Somes Sound. The house had everything we needed to make us comfortable and welcome. I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you for opening your home.

Best Family vacation!

The minute we walked onto the property we knew we were somewhere special. This home is amazing and the location is perfect! 10 of us had rooms and bathrooms to ourselves and we didn’t even use one of the bedrooms. We sat on the deck every evening watching the sunset, my grandson chunked rocks and kayaked for the first time and every night we gazed at the stars. There’s a great trail across the road but even just walking around the property was fun. Of course we went into town most days and my adult kids did several hikes. We booked Greg, the amazing chef one night, cooked some great meals and the kitchen has everything you need. When my grandson got back to Oklahoma and woke up the next day he said “why aren’t we at the white House”? I feel the same way! Thanks again for sharing your wonderful home with us.

Location, location, location! Rustic retreat that’s perfect for everyone

The moment you step onto the property you realize how special Small Cove Point is. The natural beauty is stunning and will take your breath away. Views of the sound are everywhere, we especially enjoyed watching the tides come in and out from the back porch and had amazing views of the sunset. I’m excited to say we saw dolphins swimming in the sound! The house is beautiful, natural wood throughout the home with gorgeous antique furniture, beautiful art everywhere (The painted sheep portrait in your foyer was my favorite!). Our family was very comfortable and had lots of room to spread out when alone time was needed, but also had room to enjoy family time together as well. I loved the homey feeling while staying there, it wasn’t a cold rental with no personality, but homey and cozy. The kids and adults had fun kayaking and paddle boarding (I’m proud to say I was able to stay up on the paddle board too!) and had fun exploring the property. We also hiked the trail across the street from the property and loved it. Great proximity to Bar Harbor, it was nice to be close to town, but far enough away from the crowds. Anna and Sam are wonderful hosts, very responsive with communications and very helpful for ideas on how to best enjoy our stay. It was the first time our family visited Maine and we’re all happy we stayed here. We will return, hopefully again at Small Cove Point! Thank you for a memorable family vacation!

Wonderful Property and Location

Our three generation family had a magnificent week. The location enabled lots of hiking in Acadia National Park. And when we returned the house and views were outstanding. Plenty of room for everyone, the kitchen was well equipped and everything was superb. If not for the 12 hour drive we would stay here every year.

Mainely Magical

After this crazy year, our family was very excited to gather in Maine. Small Cove Point did not disappoint. The setting is spectacular. We saw bald eagles, osprey, loons and seals in addition to amazing sunsets and stars from the porch. The kayaks and SUPs were a much enjoyed amenity. The well maintained house has a very homey, quaint feel with lots of the interesting memorabilia that you would find in a home that has been in a family for generations. Seemingly perfect for this area. The bedrooms are spacious and allow nice separation. The kitchen is nicely updated and well equipped even for our family of cooks. At SCP, we felt like we were just the right distance to everything MDI, hiking, biking, dining, ferry trips and shopping. One evening we even put our name on the list at Able's, came back to SCP, had our cocktail, and they called us when our table was ready! Only regret-we wished we had stayed two weeks.

Adventures in Acadia

A spectacular property directly on Sommes Sound and across the street from Acadia National Park. The backyard offered views of seals and a beautiful inlet perfect for kayaking and paddlebaording. The owner and caretaker were very accomadating towards any needs we had, especially in the face of unexpected circumstances. Our family had a wonderful time reconnecting with nature in all its power and beauty. Acadia national park is a true gem and this property is perfect base from which to explore. We cannot recommend it highly enough! Thank you for a wonderful adventure in Maine!

Amazing property on Some Sound

This home sits on the kind of land you can no longer buy. It is on 15 choice acres right on Some Sound with magnificent views from almost every window. It is roomy and comfortable with the patina of age and lots of character. You can tell it is the well-loved house of an extended clan who gathers here each summer. It reminded me of my grandparents’ home, in all the best ways. It is not cutting-edge or fancy but it is very lovely. We enjoyed every minute of our mid-October stay. Taking their boats out on the water was a particular highlight of our stay. Sam was my main point of contact from the family and he could not have been nicer or more responsive. I would highly recommend this home.

Come see for yourself what makes Small Cove Point so special! Commissioned by our grandfather in 1961 and built of native pine, Small Cove Point is where our entire family gathers during the month of August to reconnect, unwind, and just have fun amidst the spectacular beauty of Acadia National Park and its environs. This is a property used by all 14 of us in August: 6 kids, 7 adults, and 1 grammy split between the Main House and the Cottage. We bring our dogs, one of which sheds fur mercilessly. (No, we do not allow pets, no matter how sweet, well trained, or well behaved. This is non-negotiable and based upon past experience). It is clean, well-cared for, and well equipped. The furniture and upholstery are updated regularly, including recent mattresses, sheets, blankets, pillows, and towels. We also installed a modern HVAC system in 2021: each room has individual heat and A/C controls. It is a wonderful house, a wonderful property, and a wonderful place to be. While you may find clues that others have been there before - a finger smudge on a window for example - please know that everything is clean, tidy and squared away. The cleaners are thorough and use antibacterial products. Yet you may come across a dog hair in the living room, mismatched silverware, Tupperware without a lid or a chipped china plate. You may also find canned goods, an unopened box of quinoa or gluten-free spaghetti, a bottle of hot sauce, maybe a half bag of perfectly good coffee. Help yourself. We work hard to ensure that this well-loved and well-used home is well-maintained. You are a guest in our home. Yes, you are a paying guest but a guest nonetheless and I will work hard to correct any deficiencies.

Why they chose this property

Simple, comfortable, and ready for you. This is a wonderful gathering place for friends and family, with a large living room/dining room, fully stocked eat in kitchen, and expansive deck. Where else can you be on the water and surrounded by granite mountains? There is plenty of room to spread out: in the house, on the property, and throughout Acadia. Take a swim in front of the house, watch the wildlife and boats from the deck, take a hike in the Park, a stroll through Northeast Harbor, a water taxi to Isleford (Little Cranberry), Great Cranberry, Swans Island or Frenchboro (Long Island).

What makes this property unique

Acclaimed by many to have the best sunset on Mt Desert! 1/4 mile of private shorefront on Somes Sound. New HVAC system 2021 with individual controllers for each room. 4 Paddles Boards, 3 sit on top Kayaks, 1 sit in Kayaks, 4 children's sit on top kayaks, life vests.
