This is a wonderful place to stay

Stayed here with a group of friends and family for my daughters wedding in Manistee. I can't recommend this house enough. So much character and lots of room, comfy beds and great location. We all loved it!

Great Home for your get-away trip

The home was very nice and spacious. We liked that it was walking distance to the beach, tennis courts, a nice park and the downtown district. Our stay at this home was a relaxing time. I recommend this home to future travelers.

Short House Fishing Trip

I have stayed in Manistee at other rentals and this house was the best. The location is perfect to get to either pier to fish. We enjoyed the beautiful house and the stay was great in spite of high winds which kept us from fishing two days.

Wonderful location close to downtown.

Great place close to downtown. Park across the street for kids. Only drawback is no central air. A/c units in the bedrooms were great but gets a little hot downstairs during the day.

Lovely home in a lovely town

We had a great week in this Manistee charmer. With having 1 son and 5 daughters, it can be tricky to find accommodations where everyone has the beds and privacy that they need, and this house fit the bill. I loved that it is in a very quiet neighborhood, across the street from a school playground and just minutes from 2 Lake Michigan beaches and the quaint downtown area. There's quite a bit to do in the area, yet it is not overly touristy. Very relaxing and beautiful area to stay in. We hope to be back again in the future.

Great For Families

This is a nicely cared-for older home in a quiet neighborhood across from a school with a playground and close to downtown Manistee. Four bedrooms -- 3 with double beds, 1 split room with 4 twins. It was perfect for our family vacation and accomodated 4 adults and 3 kids comfortably. The owners are thoughtful in their provisions: there are beach chairs, beach towels, and box fans available for use if needed and there are a few basics in the kitchen that were helpful. Overall, a very comfortable place to stay.

golf weekend

6 guys met and golfed Friday / Saturday / Sunday / Monday. We spent a lot of time on the front porch. The homes accommodations fit us nicely. The walk to downtown Manistee for a river walk and dinner was enjoyable . The neighborhood was quiet and nice to wander around.

We had an absolute perfect weekend! The house is so adorable and homey. It is located in the middle of all the activities for the weekend. And a short walk to the downtown area. Thanks for sharing your house with us! Loved the character of the house. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful.

Great home, Lots of sleeping Space

This place worked out perfect for our hunting trip. Plenty of sleeping space. Beautiful word work throughout the house. Only suggestion I would say is to have the heat turned up for guests prior to arrival. House was at 52 degrees when we arrived late in the evening and it took a while to warm up to a comfortable temp. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.

Perfect for a friend reunion!

My friends and I stayed at this house while in town for a friend's wedding, and we had a wonderful time! The house has been masterfully renovated while keeping the character of the original build. There was plenty of space for all 6 of us, and we were even able to comfortably sleep 10 for a bachelorette party sleepover! We especially enjoyed the firepit in the backyard - it's the perfect place to relax after a long day. The location of the house is fantastic. It is only a few minutes from downtown as well as several beautiful beaches. (We recommend the 5th Avenue Beach!) The house is on a quiet street and we had plenty of parking space for our 3 vehicles. This particular group of friends have been traveling together for many years, and this was definitely one of the best stays we've ever had. We will be sure to stay here next time we are in Manistee!

Manistee fishing trip

The main floor of the house allowed enough room for 7 adults to move freely. At no point in time did we feel limited by space. The fire pit and seating area in the backyard were a great way to enjoy the evening, especially with the firewood provided by the property. The only down side was the bedrooms with twin beds. Due to the age of the house it does not have central air. The bedrooms with the twin beds had box fans but could get hot during the summer months. Luckily during our stay the weather was cool so we could open the windows. Overall the house is very nice and provided a relaxing environment. The house is only a few blocks from downtown which made for a nice walk to and from dinner.

Step back in time

We chose Manistee for our summer vacation last year and we loved both the area and this lovely home base. This property is a very well maintained slice of history, with all the modern amenities. So comfortable to come home to after a day at the beach or sightseeing. Even my 14 year old son couldn't get over how "quaint" this home is. Downtown Manistee is just an easy, beautiful stroll down the hill and is a real slice of old time Americana. Plenty of restaurants and nice shops to occupy your time. The beach was a short drive or bike ride away, and is just beautiful. We really enjoyed running on the RiverWalk and all the pretty sights along the way. We did day trips to Sleeping Bear Dunes, Silver Lakes for dune buggy driving, canoeing on the Manistee River, and a local ranch for horseback riding. All within an easy drive of this cozy home we looked forward to coming "home" to. Highly recommend this for families who appreciate a slice of history and who want to relax completely after a day of local sightseeing.

Family Reunion

The house is a gem. They really knew how to build them in the early 1900s. The house is spacious and met our needs perfectly and we would definitely stay here again for an extended stay in Manistee. Our only negative comments would be that several windows upstairs could not be opened to take advantage of the screens because screens were either missing or too damaged to be effective. The downstairs had only four windows that opened, two in the kitchen and one in the half bath and one on the stair landing. There should be windows in the living and dining rooms to take advantage of the lovely Michigan air. The charm of the house certainly out weighed any inconvenience of the window screening. Awesome rental.

Charming house with character but could use some updates

The house was in a great location. Super quiet neighborhood. Walk or bike to beach and downtown. There’s a small school playground across the street. House was clean and orderly when we arrived. We really appreciated being able to use the laundry machines. The kitchen is very dated but has all you need to make meals as far as pots and pans, plates, glasses, silverware etc. None of the living room or dining room windows would open/ still had the storm windows on. The only windows that would open downstairs were kitchen and bathroom windows and one at the base of the stairs. It got pretty stuffy in the dining and living room areas in the afternoons w the sun. Only one bedroom upstairs has a window A/C. So it was a bit hot to sleep even with fans a couple of the nights And I agree with other reviews about needing more mirrors particularly in the bedrooms since there is only one bathroom with a shower that has a small mirror. The half bath does not have an outlet. I would also recommend bringing a powerstrip extension cord for each bedroom. All in all we really enjoyed our stay dispite the above thoughts. We would definitely stay there again. The owner was very quick to respond to any concerns and questions we had. I really appreciated that. We were in the area for a week for the North County Trail Run and this was a great place to stay. Like I mentioned, super quiet location so had a great nights sleep before the race!

Family Favorite

Working with the owner was easy and friendly. She answered all my questions and it was just as described when we arrive. The home is very comfortable for nine (the number of people we had during our stay) but could sleep at least 10. The "kids" room was adorable and the enclosed porch off the "kids" room was like having a club house for the kids. Ours often had morning dance parties up there before they came down for breakfast. The house was very clean - from corner to corner. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, etc. Everything was in working order. The dining room fit all nine of us around the table. The historical features around the home were just a pleasant bonus and we all enjoyed exploring all the different elements. The water pressure was great and we could all shower with plenty of hot water. There are at least four playgrounds within bike riding distance. The kids loved exploring this. We rode our bikes to town (there are a lot of hills so be aware - it is a tough ride back) and we rode to first beach. Many around town prefer fifth ave beach but we visited both and enjoyed both very much. Two great little coffee shops downtown to choose from if you like a special something in the morning. Walking around the neighborhood is beautiful - the surrounding homes are amazing in size and structure. Bring your camera on your walks. The front porch of this home is the most precious spot. The breeze is always priceless and you can't but sit and grab a book to read. If you can't bear to leave your gaming systems, etc behind, this home has great wifi connection and is well stocked with entertainment/tv options. While probably more room than you need for a couples get away - it is in a very nice location and would work well. Easy access and a nice shopping village would make it perfect for a girls weekend too. We loved it. The only thing I think I would caution you on if you are looking to rent is that there are a lot of stairs and uneven ground - it could be tricky for anyone that has some trouble on their feet. In side stairs are steep and outside stairs are tricky.

Lovely house in a fantastic location

We enjoyed staying in this lovely house. It's clean, spacious, and provided everything we needed for preparing meals inside or out. The desirable location was within an easy walk to downtown and 1 mile to 1st Street Beach. We can't wait to stay again!

Lovely big Victorian getaway!

The Short House was a great place for my large family, it offered lots of space for us to visit and have lots of fun. We stay in Manistee every year for Labor day, this year as most of the family camped and I rented a house for some of our elder family who can't really camp anymore, my son and I. We had all the comforts of home. Kristen was a joy to rent from, and I really enjoyed the opportunity to stay in this amazing Victorian treasure!

Fishing trip

Myself and 4 of my friends spend couple nights in this home while visiting Manistee for our fishing trip. The house has plenty of room and we loved the history of it. We arrived while it was dark so finding our way from the back of the house to the front door was bit challenging as there are no lights in the back yard which is where we needed to park. We had everything we needed. The house was clean and equipped with everything we needed. Thankfully it was a cool weekend and we did not need the air conditioning because the house is listed as "air conditioned" but there is only a small window unit on one of the upstairs bedrooms so if you are staying here on a hot weekend, it may not be as comfortable. Everything else was great. The house was close enough to town that you could walk there. We stopped for dinner at the recently opened North Channel Brewing Company and the food and beers were amazing. We chartered a trip with Steelhead Hunter Fishing Charters and had a great time.
