Great farmhouse!

We stayed in the farmhouse 4 nights with college friends who traveled from Dallas, TX and Little Rock, Ark. The farmhouse was perfect for us. It had everything we needed. The kitchen was well stocked, the beds were very comfortable and the fire pit was a bonus. We didn’t know if not having a full bathroom for each couple would work but both bathrooms are large and it was just fine. There is a large half bath downstairs which was very nice. The views from the house are beautiful and we spent a lot of time outside taking them in and enjoying the sound of the creek on the neighboring property. It’s very private but you still see houses close by and the proximity into Abingdon was great. We made a few quick trips to Food City and Starbucks! Our group has already said they want to return next year and stay in this house. The Grahams were wonderful to work with. They gave us great recommendations and were only a text away if we needed them. I highly recommend this sweet house.

Barter Theater Visit

This was my third visit to the cozy, yellow farmhouse this year! Two other couples joined my husband and me for a stay on order to see Murder on the Orient Express ar the Barter. Like my previous visit, the house was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the views from the front porch rockers and swing. The delicious chocolate chip cookies awaiting our arrival was an appreciated added touch. The location is perfect for going to Barter Theater and nearby restaurants. Check out is easy. Overall, it's a wonderful retreat!

Everything was perfect!

We had a great time at the house, everything was perfect! There was plenty of room for everyone, the beds were comfortable and the property itself is beautiful. It was also very conveniently located to the Creeper Trail, where we visited all weekend. I would highly recommend this property!

Wonderful house and location

This was our second stay at the farmhouse. We love the location. Abington is a nice little city. The farmhouse is just 20 minutes from Damascus and the part of the VA Creeper Trail that we like best. The host, Bob is fantastic.

Smiling Hill Farmhouse A+

The kitchen had everything (and more) that we needed. We've never stayed in a place better-equipped. We particularly enjoyed porch time every morning and afternoon/evening. What a delight!

Beautiful home and setting

Such a beautiful, cozy home and the scenic setting can’t be beat! My 3 sisters and I enjoyed sitting on the front porch each morning with our coffee and every night with our wine, and I gotta say, seeing the cows next door grazing on the hills put a smile on our faces! We had a great time in downtown Abingdon and enjoyed some of the Highland festival that was available during the weekday. We also found so many great places to eat and drink. Great home and location. Very highly recommended!

Such a Special Place

My group of friends from college try to get together annually (for over 20 years), and this place was a perfect spot for our reunion. Clean, great kitchen, spacious, comfortable beds, beautiful surroundings. Loved sitting out on the front porch. Saw a black bear, a doe with her new fawn, and a white skunk. Hope to return & highly recommend.

Sweet little farmhouse

We really enjoyed our stay here at the farmhouse. It was in the country and so peaceful. The house was built about 100 years ago and it has the quaint appeal of a farmhouse. However, the inside has been updated and has all the amenities you desire in a vacation home. The beds were very comfortable. We had two teenage boys who enjoyed playing basketball. And we made smores over the outside fire pit. Overall, a great and relaxing stay!

Perfect!

What a lovely home to vacation in with family! The inside was clean and comfortable with plenty of room—from the downstairs kitchen and living room to the bedrooms upstairs. There was so much room outside for the children (and parents and grandparents) to play—from badminton to catch. The fire pit area was a lot of fun—with plenty of split wood! The owners’ list of places to eat was so helpful, and we found a new favorite pizza restaurant and the best ever coffee/cafe! The house is perfectly located for those planning to do the Virginia Creeper. Everything from booking to arriving to leaving was easy. Already trying to figure out when we can go back!

Girls Weekend

5 of us stayed for the weekend to ride the Virginia Creeper Trail. We had the best time! The house is so comfortable, clean and accommodating. We were so relaxed we stayed up the first night until 2 am catching up on children, grandchildren, husbands etc. The owners communication was great and the property was exactly as described. We have all said we will be back!

Made for a perfect Christmas!

In the words of our 8 year old…”super great place”. ☺️ We thoroughly enjoyed the Smiling Hill Farmhouse for our family Christmas. The house was gorgeous, had everything we needed, and the layout was perfect. Also, kudos for the extremely comfortable beds! The front porch was perfect for viewing the mountain sunset and our son challenged us to several games of horse at the basketball goal. We were excited for the fire pit (what a lovely setup!) but it was too windy while we there. Next time! The biggest hit of all was that Santa had no problem finding us! ☺️

Farmhouse Family Christmas

Absolutely loved the house and it was perfect for our family Christmas! Spacious, comfortable, cozy with abundant windows to allow for natural light. The views were amazing and we were fortunate to enjoy a spectacular sunset from the front porch on Christmas Eve. We enjoyed the outdoor amenities as well, including a few adventures through the “woods” in the backyard:) Would love to visit again in the spring or summer and spend time by the outdoor fire pit!

Beautiful fall retreat

Perfect home to enjoy the beautiful fall colors of western Virginia! This warm welcoming home is lovely and well equipped. Close to many great towns and the creeper trail. The rainy weather altered our plans from a bike ride on the creeper trail to touring towns and enjoying family game time. The spacious and comfortable family room was perfect to relax and play some board games. Thanks again for a great stay!

Beautiful, scenic mountain retreat

My wife and our three little boys recently stayed at the Smiling Hill Farmhouse, nestled at the top of a hill overlooking the beautiful Shenandoah Valley near Abingdon, VA. From the moment you drive up to the front of the bright, welcoming home, it is clear that the owners have put much love and thought into this home. From the gorgeously landscaped yard (including a basketball goal and fire pit, both big hits with our boys!), to the thoughtful touches inside (plenty of outlets near beds for devices; reliable and fast wifi; lots of cookware and cutlery), no aspect has been neglected. The location is perfect for exploring all that southwest Virginia has to offer; we enjoyed biking on the Virginia Creeper Trail, hiking around Bays Mountain, and exploring the Martha Washington Inn and historic downtown Abingdon. After four relaxing, comfortable nights, we were all agreed - we would be back next year!! I think we have a new annual tradition for our family. 😊

Beautiful countryside home inside and outside!

My 3 sisters and I are from PA and SC, so the location was perfect for us for a getaway week. Although close to town and great dining, we spent most of our time enjoying the most spectacular views from the spacious front porch. This property is second to none! 5 star

Outstanding house and views

Smiling Hill Farmhouse!

I'm so glad you provided perfect weather for our visit--we spent lots of time on the porch. The furnishings are comfortable and attractive, but the best part is the new parking area! It is so much easier to unload and load now that we don't have to walk up umpteen steps or across a hill side. One of my friends, who has health problems, entered through the patio door each time so that he had no steps to climb at all. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
