This is our second stay and will look forward to our third. Excellent place to get away from the city and enjoy some peace and quiet. Lots of room to spread out and enjoy family and friends.

Great stay and ammenties

This place has the amenities of home, with a rustic and relaxing setting. We had plenty of room for our 16 guests and enjoyed the property so much. Also enjoyed a drink a Shooters Tavern downtown Anita. Would highly recommend.

Property was beautiful. Appreciated the baby gates. Hard to find...details on finding the driveway would have been helpful as gps was incorrect.

Family time for dad's 80th birthday

We loved the cabin. Lots of space for everyone. Very rustic and peaceful. We did a lot of fishing and caught many different fish. It was very windy the whole time we were there but we still found things to do. Would love to come back

Rustic fun

House was designed for a fun rustic country feel while being fully equipped and comfortable. The main level with kitchen and one bedroom is accessible without stairs, the other bedrooms require stairs. Only suggestion: please provide a couple ice cube trays.

Fun Family Weekend at Antler Hill!

Our adult children and their families joined us for a long family weekend at Antler Hill, and we had a great time! The kitchen is well supplied and functional, and the open great room made 15 of us eating together enjoyable. The pond with fishing and kayaking was a hit for the parents and kids. My husband and I kayaked for the first time:-) We spent a day at the beach at nearby Lake Anita, and swimming with littles was perfect. AC kept us cool in the hot weather but kind of noisy. In spite of the hot weather, we still got a quick bonfire in and roasted marshmallows. Thanks for a memorable family time in your unique and beautiful lodge in a lovely location.

Family reunion

We had our children and grandchildren and my 2 brothers and families stayed at the adjoining cabin. It was a beautiful setting on either property deck with the pond and kayaks as a bonus. We enjoyed a fire pit at both places and plenty of space to have dinner together every night (15 and 6)

Bachelor Party

The cabin was perfect for our group of 12. The fishing and kayaking on the pond was better than we could ask for. As for the cabin, the pictures do not do justice. The cabin was huge, with plenty of seating. The detail and woodwork inside and outside of the cabin was absolutely gorgeous. Cathy was also great. Any question that we asked was promptly responded to. We are already planning another trip here for next year.

Great views!

The location and cabin is great. There wasn't any communication on how to check in or what was needed to check out which was inconvenient. Also, the dock and kayaks are across the lake, and no instructions on how to get there, so we drove over a mowed path. I thought this stuff would be in the backyard of the cabin to still be able to participate from the deck of the cabin but that's not the case. The pond is also muddy, not great for littles or swimming. There is Lake Anita near by though which was great.

Family getaway

The view was amazing. Pond was amazing. Lodge was amazing. Everything was great. Just be aware of the high back dining chairs. Everyone kept bumping their arms on it and it hurted! My family couldn't find the exact location because the turn to the lodge was a little hidden by corn field. Would definitely help if there was some sort of sign. Overall, it was a great weekend and beautiful cabin.

Beautiful getaway for big groups!

This property was the perfect spot for our college friend reunion that included 5 different families with young kids. It was wonderful to have spacious rooms on the various levels of the house - we never felt overcrowded or on top of each other. We enjoyed the large porch and yard that gave a good amount of variety to the space we could use and the activities for the families and kids. We appreciated Kathie stopping by the house to make sure everything was good and the communication during our visit with questions. I would highly recommend this property!

Room for everyone!

It was great that there were enough beds for 18 of us. The kids had a great time kayaking I the pond. Cookware in the kitchen was a joke, must have come from grandma's garage sale. Not adequate to cook for 18 people! Small frying pans, an electric skillet and/or a griddle would be nice. Good thing we brought one and a grill because the one there is small and disgusting. Not as clean as expected; dusty, bugs in the cookware and dirty linens left in the downstairs bedroom under the laundry shoot. A cigarette butt under the sofa cushion and an empty beer can downstairs under the couch. Had to use my garbage bags til more were supplied and it was suggested we reuse towels, not at that price!!

About the host

We built Antler Hill in 2016. Antler Hill is a three-story retreat that sleeps 18. We have owned the sister lodge -- Buck Run Lodge -- for the past five years, and know what visitors expect in order to have a great trip. Families want to be together for a retreat to gather, but have enough space to call your own, and that's what we have built. Set among native oak trees, overlooking a private pond, with an additional 3,000 hardwood trees planted around the pond as part of a conservation project. Antler Hill is set amongst a wildlife haven.

Why they chose this property

We have owned this property for many years and after visiting other parts of the U.S., we decided this area of southern Iowa had a lot to offer for the traveler. From the scenery of the adjacent farm land to the wide open skies for viewing the stars at night, this is the type of property which is perfect for rest and relaxation with friends and family.

What makes this property unique

You will enjoy original timber from a 35 foot tall tree inside the Lodge, a staircase cut from a single log, bedrooms lined with native walnut planking, pine slabs accenting the main room, 35 ft ceilings, fireplace of Virginia Bluestone, cherry wood from West Virginia, pine flooring from Virginia, walls of recycled shiplap, tin, cedar siding, pine from a South Carolina cotton mill, hand painted murals in 2 bedrooms of geese flying north and south, this is just part of the interesting points of interest in Antler Hill.
