Interesting place

The house is in the center of the village, but very quiet. No problem inside ; it is in Scotland, so a little bit wet ! Good place for one week, near the most beautiful part of Sutherland.

Lovely Cottage

Enjoyed our stay in Dornoch. Extremely hot week - could have done with a lighter downie! Enjoyed trips to Dunrobin Castle, Portmahomack, Cromarty via Nigg Ferry and of course Dornoch's wonderful beach. Beer Garden at Dornoch Castle Hotel and Royal Golf Hotel recommended. Minor points: i)TV acted up a bit ii)could do with more face/hand towels and toilet rolls Thanks Helen

Great location

Very good week. Handbook had all information we required. Excellent location enabling us to walk to all the restaurants and stroll round the town. No basic issues. One slight one was the hand basin. Hot tap only had a 1/4 turn so very slow plus plug didn't sit properly and allowed water to flow out.

Perfect stay in Dornoch!

My two weeks in Dornoch could not have been more perfect at this property. The location is ideal and the Donald Ross history angle makes it even more special for a golfer. Communication was great and Julia, the owner, was very available. I did not have any issues or concerns during the stay as everything was straightforward and in excellent condition. Thank you again, Julia—I hope to be able to stay again next year!

Lovely town and perfect location

Excellent base to explore the beautiful surrounding area. Just about everything needed to feel at home (with the exception of a pizza wheel....😭). The welcome pack needs a little updating (some contradicting info re recycling), but overall, near perfect...👏

Perfect location

We really enjoyed staying in the cottage. The location in the heart of Dornoch is perfect. The home is decorated to a high standard. The kitchen is very well equipped. We were all so pleased with the Electric blankets on the comfy beds as we have them in our home as well. We are planning on staying again if that's possible this year. The owner is very friendly and helpful.

Charming Cottage

My husband and I have just returned from a relaxing week in Dornoch. We stayed in this lovely cosy cottage which had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location is perfect right in the heart of the town and near all amenities. Julia the owner was easily contacted and extremely helpful. We will definitely return to Dornoch in the future and to this cottage.

Wonderful and Charming-cottage and town

We have been fortunate to travel a fair bit and this was one of the best home rentals ever. Spot on location, all in great shape, and a perfect base to explore Dornoch and the region. Owner super helpful/friendly.

Quirky, historic, and cool.

Overall, it was great. You do need to understand what you're getting though. For golfers it is a special place as it was the home of Donald Ross. This is a very, very old building. We found it very clean but it has the nuances of extremely old buildings. It is not a luxury condo. Carrying luggage up the narrow winding steps could potentially be a challenge for some. The cottage is best suited to one couple, a small family, or a few guys on a golf getaway. The two bedrooms are both upstairs with one bathroom between them and It might be a bit awkward for two couples or any arrangement where modesty and privacy are valued. Since it was only my wife and myself, it was great. The bedrooms both have angled ceilings which is simultaneously charming and painful for taller people that may get up in the night as the knot on my head would attest. However, it's only a first night mistake. The same can be said for the shower/tub. It is a seriously tight fit for anyone but, If you are 6'0" or above a standing shower will be interesting/challenging. There is a fixture for a sitting shower. The bed was very comfortable. There is a WC downstairs which is handy but the entrance is low so you need to mind your head here also. The kitchen has everything you need and it's a two person only kitchen. There is a tiny, but covered, outdoor space where the washing machine is located and the machine works well. There is no dryer so you'll be hanging your clothes and there are lines in the back yard and clothespins to do so. A breakfast room and sitting room are both well appointed and comfortable, The back yard is somewhat terraced and is pleasant with a great view of the Cathedral tower. If it's clear you can see all the way out to the water on the other side of town and we found a spot under a tree to just sit and have a glass. Everything is walkable and walk you should. It's a beautiful town. We enjoyed the quirkiness and the atmosphere of the cottage and had no complaints. One last trait to be aware of is that, because it is what it is, there will be the occasional person (golfer) or two (golfers) standing out front taking pictures of the place you're staying. As a golfer and a quasi-student of the game, it was a bucket list item for me and we were both glad we stayed here. We will very likely do so again.

Great location. A stone's throw from the pubs and restaurants in Dornoch.

House is old and quaint, but not tired. It has everything needed for a stay in Dornoch. Kitchen is quite small, but that is to be expected in a property of its vintage. Had a very relaxing and comfortable stay. Lots of maps and books to amuse if weather keeps you indoors.

OUTSTANDING

Could not have asked for a better location and accommodation. We were in Dornoch for a celebration at the golf club. The cottage is set in the heart of the village - an easy walk to the golf club, restaurants & shops. The cottage was spotless, comfortable in every way. Thank you Julia. We will visit again. Ann

Couldn't Have Been Better!!!

I will start off this review by saying that I enjoyed this historic house with my 2 brothers and my father in celebration of his 60th birthday. I couldn't imagine a more perfect time or place to relax, play golf and appreciate such a wonderful occasion. The house was perfect from the second we arrived! We parked right on the street outside the house and behind Luigi's Restaurant. If you love golf...you are in the in the right place. If you love history...you are in the right place. If you want to stay in a place with great Scottish charm and comfort...you are definitely in the right place. The house is warm and inviting and the owner is readily available to answer any questions you have. There are two nice size bedrooms as well as a high quality air bed that can be used at the house. I am a extreme golf nut so staying in the house that Donald Ross was born in was a huge thrill for all of us. I grew up playing a 9 hole course that DR designed in the USA and it was truly a once in a lifetime experience staying in his house. The grocery store is literally a 30 second walk from the house as well as many other restaurants and attractions. The golf course was less than a 10 minute walk through town and couldn't have been more pleasant. In finishing, if you are going to stay in Dornoch definitely stay here!

Feels Like Home!

We had a delightful second stay at the cottage and it does feel like we're coming home. The cottage is comfortable, extremely clean, ideally located, and the owner is excellent at communication. Dornoch itself, is located close to so many wonderful outdoor activities and we mostly walk or only drive short distances as the Scotrail station is Golspie is a 10-15 minute drive away. Thank you for such a happy place!

Golfing Heaven

We have just returned from this lovely traditional cottage in the centre of Dornoch. The cottage is spacious, light and well equipped and is extremely warm and comfortable - a real home from home. Despite being in the centre of town the location was extremely quiet. It is ideally positioned for golf with the 2 courses at Royal Dornoch just a short walk away and with a selection of delightful courses within easy reach by car. For those interested in exploring the surrounding countryside on foot there is a large selection of maps and local guides on hand at the cottage. The beautiful beach is just a stroll away and there are local walks to suit all abilities. The town itself has a good selection of bars and restaurants and for those who wish to self-cater there is a very good supermarket a short walk away as well as a butchers and bakers. As golfers we would definitely recommend this property as a base but it would equally suit those interested in walking holidays or just a quite relaxing time in a pretty town with glorious surrounding countryside to admire.

Fun and comfortable cottage

My husband and I spent 2 delightful weeks at this cottage in Dornoch. Not only is the house ideally located, it is comfortable, clean, and well provisioned. The Co-Operative grocery is literally at the end of the block, there is a Carnegie Library a few blocks away, restaurants and pubs as well. The kitchen is very well equipped (the knives are sharp!), beds are very comfortable, linens spotless, and washer was so very handy. We were extremely happy and pleased. Also, the owner communicates very well and promptly which I really appreciated.

Discovering Dornoch

A great place to stay in a beautiful part of the world. The accommodation lived up to all that was expected of it and more. In terms of locationit is hard to beat being close to the mountains and the sea with the added benifit of being within walking distance of all the excellent amenties in Dornoch. The owners even had to hand childrens toys which were appreciated by the 2 year old. All in all highly recommended, would have no hesitation in making a return visit.

A beautiful cottage and a great location

This cottage was perfect for a short break in this breathtaking part of Scotland. We stayed in mid September amid some brilliant weather conditions that gave us sunsets, rainbows and great beauty. Everything that was promised was delivered in terms of the facilities, the ambience, and style of the cottage. Bedrooms were great, lounge and dining room were comfortable and well equipped and the kitchen (recently replaced we understand) was excellent. Information about the cottage itself and the surrounding area was comprehensive and very helpful. Not being golfers ourselves, but recognising quality and beauty in any situation, the golf course and adjacent beach appeared spectacular and worth a visit at any time of the year. We had some lovely walks and drives up to the far north.Wild and wonderful countryside. Would highly recommend and would certainly come back. Nothing negative to say about this place at all!

Better than before

Another great holiday and the cottage is looking immaculate having had a new kitchen fitted since my last visit. Not only is it all brand new and sparkling, it feels so much bigger and better designed than before. The rest of the cottage is feeling very fresh and since it has not moved, the location is still perfect for golf, beaches and the wonderful Scottish countryside & mountains. I'll keep coming back
