Donald Ross, the famous golf architect was born in this very attractive traditional stone cottage which lies in the heart of the Dornoch conservation area.

The town has many elegant local buildings including an impressive Cathedral and County Buildings. The town is surrounded by farmland,hills,spectacular scenery and an abundance of wildlife including red deer and Highland cattle. The nearby salt-water Nature Reserve is home to seals, ducks and numerous waders.
In 2018 the Royal Dornoch Championship Course was ranked 2nd best in the world by Golf Digest and 8th in the world by Top 100 Golf Courses,
