Service: *****
Greg was a wonderful host. Very communicative, offered lots of great suggestions & guidance for getting the most out of our stay. He even told us what bait to use to catch the most fish!
Property/Location: *****
The property is gorgeous. Secluded with a huge backyard for games, and the private dock was great for fishing, crabbing, and swimming. We caught enough crab for dinner one night! We rented kayaks & paddled to Onancock for lunch & walking around. Chincoteague is less than an hour away if you want to do an ocean-side beach day. The country roads are nice & flat and of course low-traffic, great for biking around.
House: ***
The house is well-appointed and offers plenty of room, but definitely has some wear, much of it apparently from the high humidity on the property (it's right on the water, so that's to be expected). Some of the doors were warped & hard to open/close, the main bedroom area was stuffy and the entire house had a bit of a musty odor. It didn't really bother us but could cause trouble for people who are sensitive. Also, this is not a pure rental; someone clearly lives there when it's not rented out, as there were clothes & personal effects in the closets & drawers. Not a problem, really, but many VRBOs are pure rentals these days so just be aware. Given the price and the condition of the house, and in comparison to other properties at which we've stayed, we can't give the house itself more than 3 stars. But the service & location made up for whatever quibbles we had.
Oh, and note that there is NOT a hot tub -- it is a two-person soaking tub in the master bath. It's noted on the web version of the listing but not in the app, so I missed the clarification, much to my family's disappointment.
