Great Summer Get-Away!

A lovely, bright, clean, spacious cape house within easy walking distance to the beach and fort and a just short (20 min) drive to dining, shopping etc in Damariscotta. Three good sized bedrooms and two full bathrooms kept family members out of each other's hair and the kitchen was well enough equipped to cook dinner for family and friends each night. An ample supply of jigsaw puzzles kept us entertained over a couple of rainy days. We had a wonderful time!!

Perfect week!

Flowers were blooming all along the front of the house. The picnic table in the back yard was placed for the best view of the water. Every room was bright and clean. the walk to the beach with our coffee cups and sticky buns from the Cupboard was short. The beach roses along the beach were also in bloom. The lobster were tasty at Muscongus Bay and at Pemaquid Harbor.. Pemaquid beach, the Light House, Salt Pond were all close. We even got to go to Granite Hall Store, LL Beans, and out to Monhegan. Relatives stopped by to visit and also loved the house. Lots of space. Thank you!

Great beach cottage!

We have been coming to mid-coast Maine for years and this was one of the best. Steve and Deb’s cottage is in a great location for families, right by a beach perfect for kids and within range of everything you want for a Maine vacation (or at least what we want) — quiet evenings, near the ocean (the house is just two doors down), great ice cream and lobster a short bike ride away — and the layout of the house was very comfortable and easy for all our needs.

Great Stay at the Beach

My wife and I, along with our two kids (8 and 6), had a great time at this rental. The proximity to the neighborhood beach was perfect and our kids loved playing there so much we only once visited nearby Pemaquid Beach Park. We also enjoyed that the neighborhood was nice and quiet, and the proximity to local hikes was a bonus. My wife and I like to cook (even on vacation). The only downside to the rental was that the cooking supplies were not great. We were able to improvise when necessary, but some of the kitchen supplies could use a refresh (cutting board, frying pan, knives). Other than that....no complaints! We hope to visit the property again next year.

Great location and cottage character but needs some improvements

We enjoyed our stay at this "beach cottage". The location is great for a quiet and restful vacation, in close proximity to many things of interest (beach, historic site, amazing scenic sites, great eating places). However, the property needs some attention to details that detract from it getting a 5-star rating. In the the hopes of getting these addressed to improve future guests' experiences, we have provided a list of 12 suggestions/comments to the property owners.

Perfect location and size for our family vacation.

The location of this vacation rental was perfect for our large family with four small children, as we could all walk to the little beach quickly (less than 5 minutes) and return easily for nap or meal time. The owners were helpful and accommodated our request to rent both of their properties to house four couples- 2 with small children. The two homes on neighboring properties allowed for plenty of space for people to visit as well as find a quiet spot in the house away from noise for naps. Both houses have deck space for sitting and/or eating outside and are located within walking distance of Pemaquid Harbor and Pemaquid Beach. These homes fit our vacation needs perfectly, and we look forward to our return in 2016!

This is a wonderful house and perfect for a family

This is our third year of staying here. The Dillingham's are excellent owners and the property is clean, managed well and has a GREAT person to help you with anything needed during your stay. The bay and beach are both within walking distance and so much fun for children. This location makes it easy to enjoy Damarscotta and a little over half and hour to Wicasset and Booth Bay....all wonderful places for a day trip. The house is perfect for a family to enjoy....a big family area in the kitchen and two great decks.....we love it!!.....not to forget the Cupboard Cafe...just up the road, for breakfast or lunch out or out of this world desserts!

Beautiful cottage in a nice beach neighborhood

The cottage is very well maintained. It has a clean, crisp feel and all utilities (showers, sinks) and electronics (TV, radio) work well. The location is terrific, situated near two beaches and a number of historic attractions.

Sweet vacation rental, near the beach!

We stayed at this lovely little house during the last week of July. The house was spotless and was perfectly laid out for 3 friends and my 1.5 year old baby. The proximity of to the beach was extremely convenient. And we had a great time exploring the area. We are already planning our return next summer. Thanks to Deb for making this house available.

We'll be back!

When my family of four arrived at our cottage we were pleased to find everything we could need. Plenty of extra blankets, cooking utensils and even paper plates. They thought of everything. We could tell the owner took pride in the appearance of the cottage in the details such as the lovely landscaping and fresh paint. Although we noticed a faint smell of paint when we arrived opening some windows quickly took care of it. We would take a short walk up the road to little beach with our 3 and 4 year old with coffee and watch them play for hours- finding hermit crabs, fish and shrimp. Some days we had the beach to ourselves for the most part. The street was quiet with very little traffic. The neighbors were welcoming and friendly. We will surely make this cottage an annual vacation spot for our family for years to come.

The Perfect Getaway

This is the second summer in a row we have rented this house, and the third summer we have rented from the owner (they have another property nearby). Our stay this year was even better than the first time around. The house has had renovations done both outside and inside - making a nice place even better. We where two families each with a five year old kid. The house has all amenities one can expect, including washing machines, two bathrooms, shower outside, internet, satellite tv, great bedrooms and more (one can hear the waves at night time...). Since we last stayed, the house has added a deck on both front and back of the house. We love night sky with shining stars, ocean breeze and sound of waves. The house has a perfect location, only a minute walk away from a little beach located in a bay. This is the perfect beach for kids. The water is warmer and the big difference between high and low tide allows for some amazing hermit crab and red crab hunting. This beach is also the perfect place to enjoy the sunset and a beverage of choice. About 10 min walk away is Pemaquid Beac. This is a long sandy beach with plenty of waves that is perfect for both adults and kids. The beach has a little fast food place and one can also rent beach toys etc. In the area overall, there are plenty of 'crab shacks', ice cream parlors and opportunities for day trips (seal cruises, puffin cruises etc). Obviously good lobster meals are easy to find. About 5 minutes walk away from the house is Fort William Henry. This is a historic 17th century site and my son loved exploring the site and run around. There is also a local restaurant located next to the fort called "The Contended Sole. This has an excellent deck to enjoy sunset and a meal or a cold beverage. The house is about 1.5 hours north of Portland, Maine. This is a beautiful city with plenty of dining opportunities. We love to sit down by the docs and listen to live music and enjoy fresh seafood. For those who like to shop, Freeport Outlet Center (LL Bean HQ) is located on the way to the house from Portland. As I mentioned above, this is our third time renting from the owners. We actually had an 11 hour drive to get there - and it is well worth it. We would do it again.

Cosy and kid friendly by the beach...

This was our second time renting from the owners. I believe we were the first renters to stay in this house - and it was perfect. Having been in the area before, I was looking forward to the stay, but our family of 3 brought another family of 4 so we were excited to see how they liked the place and this new property. Place was clean, well kept and very cosy. We drove all the way from Toronto, Canada which is a long trek - but it was well worth it. The house was great, and it worked out very nicely for all of us. The house was equipped with all necessary amenities and two bathrooms and a large kitchen made the life easy for all seven of us. The kids loved in particular the two beaches that are close by. Only a minute walk is a beach which is in a bay - perfect for crab hunting and swimming. The ocean water in Maine is chilly but this bay allows for the water to warm up. There is a bigger and sandy beach about 10 min walk from the house - here you will find bigger waves, lots of sand and more wind. Watch our for the seagulls who take any opportunity to steal food.... The area in general offers lots to do even on a gloomy or rainy day. We love visiting Pemaquid Point Lighthouse and climb the rocks and explore what the ocean has to offer. We also took a cruise to see seals something our kids loved. The week we stayed went by fast but we had a great time. Well worth the drive and rental cost for us. Look forward to visit again.

Cute Cottage Nearly At The Beach

Cottage is out of earshot of the ocean, so it's only nearly at the beach; and there is no ocean view. Renovations were incomplete, such as: no toilet paper holders (found them in a cupboard); ice-maker in freezer not connected and no ice trays were provided. It was quite obvious that owners have never stayed in the house themselves. No beach chairs were provided. The two kerosene heaters had been leaking, so even after the property manager attended to the repair we had to deal with the lingering unpleasant odor. Charging extra for high-speed internet is petty. We can rate our stay as only Fair and will not return.
