About this property

The Granary Flat at the Historic Glenora Mill

The Granary flat is located inside of a historic stone mill on the shoreline of Bay of Quinte, Lake Ontario. With exposed beams and stone walls, this unique space has a lot of character and a rustic feel.

Watch the Glenora Ferry pass by throughout the day, take a walk up to Lake on the Mountain Provincial Park where you can enjoy the breathtaking water views or pop over to the resort to grab a pint and a delicious meal at the two waterfront restaurants and brewery.

The Glenora Mill was built in 1806 as a five-storey stone grist mill, located on the shore of Adolphus Reach on the Bay of Quinte. It is the second mill that was built on the property, replacing the original 1792 mill. Its history connects with many properties along the shoreline, as well as Lake on the Mountain. We have included a printed book of the first 228 years of its history in the flat for you to learn more about how this property came to be.

The Granary Flat inside the mill is our first pilot as a short-term rental. The goal is to continue to renovate this space and open more guest flats over time. This building requires special attention to restore and the owners plan to continuously upgrade this flat and the entirety of the building to share its full potential with our guests.

When you enter the flat, you'll be welcomed by the water view, beautiful stone walls and wood stove in the living room. This space also doubles as a sleeping area with a futon that can be folded down into a bed. Just off the living room is the dining room with seating for four, a workspace with a desk, and a cozy reading area. The kitchen includes a stove/oven, full size fridge, microwave and cookware to prepare your favourite meal. Just off the kitchen is the bedroom, which includes a queen bed and views of the lake. There is one full bathroom with a stand-up shower, no tub. The outdoor area just outside of this flat on the way to the entrance is available to guests to lounge by the firepit, dine, cook and enjoy the views privately.

Please also note that a complimentary Seasonal Sandbanks Beach Pass is included with every stay to give you free access to the Sandbanks beaches.

The flat is self-check-in so you can come and go as you please within the check-in and check-out time frames using the door code provided to you. We will not intrude on your getaway, however, should you find yourself in need of something, please do not hesitate to contact us. This flat is on the main floor of the mill. Other flats are being renovated for additional guests and some units are reserved for the owner's family use and a long term tenant so you may see other people around but they won't interfere with your specific guest areas. The waterfront is a shared space.

Please note there is an outdoor camera facing the driveway to monitor snowfall, snow removal by the municipality and landscaping remotely.

Charming stay
We really enjoyed our stay at the Glenora Mill. It is a charming historic property close to the ferry (which I became addicted to watching!) and a great place to enjoy the lake front and all of the county.

My wife and I spent 4 days at this property as a getaway before she starts the school year as a teacher. The property was extremely charming and a pleasant place for us to relax after days at the beach. We would certainly come back!

Cozy fall getaway
Amazing and unique stay in this beautiful restored granary in Genora! This place has everything you need for a wonderful get away, the hosts are fabulous, and the location is perfect. Its just a short drive into town, or if you want a quiet day nothing beats sitting by the fire reading, and listening to the water right outside the window. Cozy and quaint! Would definitely recommend and hope to stay again!

Tranquil retreat!
This flat had that rustic charm we love. This mill and the area is full of history! Close to town but far enough to feel secluded and away from the hustle. The views and sound of the waves made for a peaceful nights sleep. Spacious and comfortable! Enjoyed our stay thoroughly!

Heritage Property at Glenora Ferry
This is a large suite in an historic stone grist mill conveniently located right next to the Glenora Ferry (and a short drive to the Lake on the Mountain and to Picton). There's a private sheltered garden with fire pit and BBQ, you can also walk down the hill to the lakeside shaded by a magnificent weeping willow. We enjoyed our stay "on the county".

We loved our stay. The Mill is a beautiful heritage building and we felt lucky to be able to stay inside. Location is amazing, my toddler could spend hours watching the ferry. We had a relaxing evening sitting on the docks and then by the fire pit. Very enjoyable! Thank you for having us!

Better than we could have imagined
We had planned a small girls trip and this place really MADE the entire trip! It was right on the water and it felt like we were in the English countryside. The home was fully stocked with everything you could ever need and super clean and beautiful. We had access to the bbq and the dockside which we walked down to every night for drinks and dinner/snacks. They have a selection of board games and Marcy sent us so many amazing recommendations for wineries and restaurants/bars in the area. 10/10 will definitely come back!

Time travelling
If you love history, unique rentals, interesting architecture and the crash of waves, you’ll love Glenora Mill. We were 3 adults and there was plenty of room. Two of us shared the bed which had good linens. My other daughter stayed on the futon which honestly is not comfortable but she can sleep anywhere. All that you need is provided. Location is fantastic. One day we took the ferry across and drive to Kingston. A picturesque ride. Everyone in PEC was so friendly. Marcy was helpful and not intrusive. She gave us recommendations for restaurants (Inn at Lake on the Mountain and Royal Hotel were meals we won’t forget). The grounds are lovely and the waves lulled us to sleep. Step back in time and enjoy a rental you won’t forget :)

Glenora/Picton stay
Had a great time at this cute property. Conveniently located right next to Glenora Ferry. Clean and cute. Our only issue was when we got to the location, and followed instructions, we were told keypad would be on door marked "C". We saw several doors, none marked "C" until my husband tore down the ivy type vines surrounding the door, and lo and behold it was marked "C". We are only mentioning this, because if one would be checking in at nighttime, it could be hard to navigate. Host also mentioned there was a pure water machine in unit, however we didn't see one at all, we bought water for drinking, and did speak with tenant in downstairs unit who mentioned water fine to drink. All in all, good trip, great area, great restaurants.

Historic, yes comfortable, no
First impression - outside garden overgrown inhabited by snakes and rodents, parking for a small car only enter the front door like Harrison Ford with spiders and cobwebs all around. door code worked well. House is stone, quite historic Inside - no central air, just a loud window air conditioner at the far end of the house so pretty warm, could only open one window but at least there was a fan on the sill, bed was well past its best before date sagging springs, kitchen was fine and a nice coffee maker with a jar of roasted beans, bath room was small but functional with hot water for the shower, TV in the living room worked well although TV was not what I paid all this money for and in the house lots of spiders, cobwebs, etc. Good thing the windows didn't open as all were covered in cobwebs Location - near the Glenora Ferry (operates from 6am to 1am) so i could go and watch tourists coming and going but that is all in the area. Located beside a government building, but the employees were not too noisy and just had a few boats and trucks mostly. nearest grocery store is 9km away nearest restaurant is 5km (a nice restaurant, tho with fine, expensive, dining) Summary - not worth the high cost

Quiet and peaceful location
The three of us were comfortable at The Granary! It was clean overall, expect for a dish, the frying pan and spoons, unfortunately left dirty in the drawers and cupboards. The kitchen was very well-equipped - important because we cooked a lot - although, sadly, there was only one frying pan and everything stuck in it! A second frying pan would have been appreciated. There were several other very nice pots of all sizes. The towels and linens were clean and perfect. However, two pillowcases were missing, and we requested them but never got them (linens were supposed to be included for the bed AND the futon bed). There were communication issues with the property manager: she said that VRBO was having issues and she wasn’t getting our messages, but she did get that message; she didn’t fix that issue. Anyone who expects very cold air conditioning might be disappointed (we were not, as we do not have air conditioning at home); there is a single unit that doesn’t cool down the entire rental, only part of one side of the apartment. We liked the location: close enough to Picton and the Sandbanks Park, but removed enough to be very quiet at night, despite the proximity of the ferry terminal. There’s also a lovely and yummy cafe close by: The Miller House, as well as a fancier restaurant right across the road (which we didn’t try). These are owned by the same people and are about five minutes away from the rental. We quite enjoyed our stay and would return, given the chance.

Granary flat in Glenora
The granary flat is located right at the ferry in Glenora. The views are great and the flat is quite large, especially for only 2 guests. Remember if you stay here that you don't have to wait in the potential line-up of cars trying to get on the ferry - there should be space for you to get through the cars and go up the hill towards the granary, so use the left hand lane to go around any parked cars waiting for the ferry! The flat has a portable air conditioning unit which worked quite well to cool down the unit, even when it was very hot and humid outside, but the ceiling fan in the front room definitely helped as well. The kitchen was pretty well equipped. Our biggest issues was the parking. In order to leave, we had to make a many point turn every time (with an SUV). There was no easier way to turn the car around to exit. We got better at it, but it was a bit of a pain (especially if we were leaving in the dark). Some extra lighting from the parking area to the front door of the flat would have been helpful, because it was quite dark at nighttime. Overall, the flat was quite nice, but it was certainly not "modern". It was a bit "rustic", but pleasant overall. The owner was quite responsive to our questions, responding within 8-10 hours to any questions we had.

I was amazed with the size the history and the location of the property and the view was sensational, especially at sunset. As far as the unit goes it is a charming mix of old and new.It was also close to many breweries and wineries and the town of Picton only 5 miles away. I would highly recommend this property to rent
