This stately and elegant home is ideal for families and groups who appreciate the finer things in life. Located on seven acres of parklike grounds in one of Australia's prettiest garden hamlets, it offers modern comforts and a splendid outlook only two hours from the heart of Sydney. Tucked away on a quiet laneway just outside the town of Mount Wilson, Tollimount Cottage is a rare find. The house itself is stylishly designed and elegantly proportioned, with living areas on the ground floor with views of stunning gardens and an expansive deck. Throw in additional conveniences like a Tesla charging station, a laundry and a fireplace in the living room and you have the perfect mountain getaway.
What the owner loves
It's all about the grounds. One of the original gardens planted in Mount Wilson, a town well-known for its beautiful botanical displays, the grounds of Tollimount Cottage feature dozens of different native and exotic plants. No matter what time of year you arrive, you'll be greeted by a display of flowers in bloom. The gently sloping lawns and mature trees only add to the experience. Autumn is a particularly beautiful time to visit, with the home surrounded by leaves turning to gold and crimson.
What we love
Mount Wilson is not like the rest of the Blue Mountains. You won't find hordes of tourists descending from tour buses here, nor shops selling knickknacks. In fact, there aren't any shops or cafes. This hamlet is a dignified throwback to a forgotten age, where you can wander the streets admiring beautiful gardens under the dappled shade of deciduous trees. There aren't many places like this left in Australia (or indeed the world), which makes it perfect for a refined and private getaway.
What the family traveller loves
Tollimount Cottage is wonderful as a family escape: big enough for everyone to have their own space, but not so big you won't see each other. Children and adults alike will appreciate the chance to step away from their screens and explore the beautiful gardens. The firepit in front of the house, which comes with plenty of seating, is the perfect place for chats with family and friends in the crisp evening air. Who needs TV?
