Tranquil little paradise!

We had an amazing week-long stay at this lovely home in the jungle. Spacious, well appointed and with a lovely pool and view, the house is just a short drive away from amazing beaches and adventures. The property manager Torrie was super responsive, check in/out was easy. It was so fun to be visited by parakeets, howler monkeys, hummingbirds, cuckoos, and of course the inquisitive coatis who felt quite at home strolling through the patio area. Thank you very much Angelique and the team-- we hope to be back!

Amazing place to stay

The location of the house is amazing, with a beautiful view. Really nice to have the pool to come back to after a day at the beach. Loved both Sámara and Carillo beaches. It was really fun to see monkeys up close by the house as well as coati and iguanas. Highly recommend the house and location!

Fantastic property!

This place was exactly as pictured in the listing, and it worked great for our family. It had an amazing view at the top of a hill, and we were surrounded by all kinds of wildlife. We loved cooling off in the picturesque pool and outdoor shower, and the indoor space was spacious and accommodating. We rented a vehicle, which was key in accessing the hill leading to the property; the charming town with its beautiful beaches were indeed a 5min drive away. We used the kitchen and grill to prepare the fish which our family caught on a Samara fishing expedition, during which we also saw whales, turtles, and dolphins. Our kids called this place “Jungle Paradise”—an experience our family will never forget. Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended!!

Paradise!

Outstanding view of the valley and surrounding jungle. Wildlife everywhere you look...howler monkeys, coatis, many varieties of lizards, birds, etc. Beautiful house with a great open floor plan. Torre, the property manager, was a great resource for all things local and a kind soul. If a breeze isn't happening it can be hot but the pool is a savior from getting too sticky. Good water and safe neighborhood.

Near Samara and yet secluded.

Wonderful spending early morning out by the pool enjoying the seclusion and the view. We could stay forever. Very relaxing listening to the birds and howler monkeys near by. We were even visited by a kodamunda from time to time. Loved every minute.

We spent a week at this property and didn’t want to leave. It’s private, clean, comfortable and has lots of amenities. We enjoyed fishing and the turtle Arribada while in the area. Torrie - the property manager - was kind, friendly and accommodating. Thanks for renting to us!

We left our hearts in Sámara.

Thanks to Casa Luna Del Sol we had the most wonderful first time experience in Costa Rica!! Torrie the property manager (who, btw, is super kind and helpful) met us at the market as soon as we arrived in Sámara. When he led us to the house (a very short drive from the market), it was exactly what you see in the photos which was a relief! After a quick tour we were left alone to explore and within a couple of hours the coati's AND the howler monkeys made their appearances!! THAT was very, very cool as the house sits right in the jungle and you can watch the monkeys from the driveway or from the back and side of the house or really from wherever you want! The kids loved the hammocks and the clean pool in the back and what a perfect way to begin and end each day :) The house itself was very secure and quiet. Wifi is not always reliable - as we expected in Costa Rica - and to be honest, I almost wish we didn't have it at all. It was very hot when we were there just two weeks ago (high 30's) and with all the ceiling fans and open windows in the house, it wasn't an issue for us to sleep at nite. The windows don't have window coverings (there really isn't a need as all you can see is jungle) but we did use the optional curtains that are kept in the bedrooms. Everything in the home is clean and works well. There is basically everything you need (coffee maker!!) and Torrie was a quick text away for any questions. I LOVED the open concept space upstairs! SO much room!! Booking and communicating with Jay (as I had to change dates) was super easy. Friendliness and care all around and the one thing my 16 yo daughter said to me that stands out - 'they all seem so happy here.'. Side note, if you get the chance to order the quesadilla from Soda la Samareña - do it! SO good! Enjoy your time at Casa Luna Del Sol!! We sure did and we can't wait to go back!! Thank you to Jay and family for this space and being so authentic in your representation of it!!

Excellent!!!

MERCI!!

A magical place to stay

This was our second trip to Casa Luna Del Sol and we are even more impressed this time around. To wake up every morning and to walk out to such an incredible view as the sun rises is priceless. Perfect place for Sally to do yoga and for both of us to drink coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. We greatly enjoyed how open the villa is with the lush surrounding while at the same time more or less totally private. The pool, while not quite big enough for swimming is perfect for cooling off and watching nature. We saw plenty of wildlife including a daily visit from the Howler monkeys. The villa is a short 5 minute drive from Samara. No problem parking in Samara and Samara has a nice beach and a diverse set of wonderful restaurants. If you want to learn Spanish you should enroll in half day classes at Intercultura language school. The villa is a short walk from beautiful Buena Vista beach. You need to go nearer low tide to cross and then you have about a mile long pristine beach to walk --- great tranquility. We found the villa equipped with everything we needed --- especially the hammocks. The caretakers Scott and Linda are responsive, efficient and interesting. We also had (once again) the opportunity to meet the new owners Eliane and Dave who are putting their heart and soul into the villa. They have done numerous quality improvements while actually enhancing the charm of the relaxing place --- great people. We cannot wait to return. Charles and Sally

A week in paradise! Une semaine au paradis!

The perfect place if you want to live like the locals and enjoy life at this latitude. Everything you need is provided and you won't want to leave at the end of your stay! Do not hesitate to visit Buena Vista Beach in spite of the crocodile warning sign. Locals told us it is safe at low tide. A nice wild beach right at your doorstep. You will hear the sound of the waves from the terrace....Enjoy!

It was better then in the photos

My family and I stayed in this beautiful villa from the 7th to the 13th of april . Super clean nothing was missing compared to other place I visited in Costa Rica. We even had a bottle of wine and a six pack of beer waiting for us on our arrival. What a view and private place. It was a perfect place for us because we needed to relax after a very busy quarter in my business. What we liked the most was the sound of nature, the small monkeys, the racoons ,the iquana and coati ect. The private pool, the nice place to relax in the sun or in the shade under the rancho in the hammocks and since we were on the mountain we always had a cool breeze that we appreciated. The beaches nearby. We liked to go walk and eat on Samara beach where their is a lot of restaurants and activities. For sure we will come back to Casa Luna Del Sol but this time for a longer time.

What a difference a year can make!

This was our second stay at Casa Luna Del Sol (formerly Casa Michele). My husband and I stayed at the villa in March of 2017. This year our adult children joined us for 7 days. We enjoyed watching the monkeys and birds and listening to the howler monkeys and splashing in the pool. But what a difference a year can make! Since I rely heavily on the reviews on HomeAway in choosing our vacation villas there are a few things I need to mention that have changed since our stay in March of 2017. Our favorite part of the day is waking up early, listening and watching for the monkeys and birds and enjoying my Costa Rican coffee. Unfortunately, for 7 out of the 10 days during our stay, we listened to continual construction noise starting at 6:00 am every morning except Sunday. (They start work early here due to the heat) The constant noise and beeping noise of the backhoe backing up was very, very annoying. We eventually had had to pack up and leave the beautiful surroundings of the villa and pool each day to escape the continuous noise. The noise drove us all insane! The reason for all the noise is at the bottom of the road they are clearing out an area of land where homes are eventually going to be developed. So please note the noise could continue to be an issue in the future. Also, there is a neighbor down the hill with at least four dogs which did alot of barking, which in turn would start other dogs in the area barking. Our stay last March was so peaceful and enjoyable. Although the noise is totally out of control of the owners, we just wanted to address the noise in the review since it greatly impacted our stay at Casa Luna Del Sol. Just as a side note, my husband and I stayed in the 2nd floor master suite. Our children slept in the first floor bedrooms. Just want to mention they informed us they could hear everything we said and every noise we made. Something you may want to consider if sharing the home with others. Please note it is extremely important to have a phone that works in Costa Rica in case you need to contact the caretakers in the case of an emergency. Our phone with an international plan did not work in contacting the caretakers. We also had several other minor issues that we had addressed separately with an email to the owner. Costa Rica is one of our favorite vacation destinations but with much disappointment our 10 day stay at Casa Luna Del Sol did not meet the same expectations as last year.

Wonderful Place

We were lucky enough to spend the month of February in Casa Luna Del Sol. What a great place. The house is located at the end of short but very steep hill. This gives it incredible views, nighttime stargazing and a certain amount of privacy. This also makes the nights surprisingly pleasant. Not sure if it was the bed (we had the upstairs room) or the fresh air but we actually slept better than we have in years. That is until the howler monkeys often woke us up bright and early in the morning! Buena Vista beach is a short walk away. This was our favorite walking beach and is mostly deserted and beautiful. One year we even saw a turtle arrive to lay eggs. Samara Beach is a longer walk away (20 minutes) but an easy drive or bike ride. This is was our favorite lunch, dinner and lounging beach. There are lots of great restaurants in and around Samara. There are also numerous other interesting beaches up and down the coastline but all require a car and most, a four-wheel drive. If you are there for a while they are definitely worth visiting. The monkeys, birds, squirrels and iguanas were great viewing entertainment. Visits from the raccoons and coatis were also fun. The pool, which is perfectly situated to have sun and shade most of the day, was so refreshing. We loved the hammocks. I often have trouble getting comfortable in hammocks but not these --- they were so relaxing. The property managers (Scott and Linda) were also wonderful. They were quick to answer questions and also quite informative and interesting. They were there when we needed them without being intrusive. We also met the new owners who were quite kind in showing (actually driving) us to where the villa was located a month before our stay. Both the managers and owners were extremely responsive to emails and is with which to communicate. Always nice to interact with good people. If you really need real quick wifi then you will have to go to town although it is not always that good in town either. The wifi was fine for our vacation purposes. Although we relied on bikes and walking half the time, most people really do need a car. Hint: reserve with Alamo online before you arrive because if you go in person the rates are three times as much. At Casa Del Luna we felt secure and were so relaxed and content. Such a wonderful place. We are sure to return.

We loved our time at Cass Michele. It was the perfect place for our family of five. Peaceful!

We enjoyed and fully used the inside and outside spaces of Casa Michele. Most mornings we walked down Playa Buena Vista for an early morning beach Walk. Of course Buena Vista is also the best beach around for sunset. We cooked most of our own meals there to save money and the kitchen worked well. We used the pool more than we thought we would to cool off. We loved be so close to wildlife although we were startled by the howler monkeys the first morning. We highly recommend Cass Michele and both the owner and Scott are very helpful. Great trip. We hope to return.

Such a majestic view and beautiful villa. The pool is fantastic and inviting. We spent 10 days with our 2 teenagers discovering local Samara and exploring wonderous Monteverde (a couple of nights offsite). The daily critters (iguana, monkeys) and incredible array of birds made us feel in the heart of it all. Lounging in the hammocks during the hot afternoons and star gazing in the evening was soooo relaxing. Most nights, we would drive down to the main Samara or Carrillo Beaches for the sunset 'finaly' and sit down at one of the beach restaurants to enjoy local food, beers, drinks and awesome Tuna steaks. We did do some charcoal BBQing (great one!) a couple of nights, and fully enjoyed the villa and super comfy rooms. We loved the water-purifying system and stainless steel appliances and there's a ton of kitchen gadgets. My personal favorite was simply walking down from the villa to nearby Buena Vista Beach, 1 hour before Low-Tide to cross the river (below knee-level) and access this exclusive and very private huge stretch of sandy beach. Walking up then down for a couple of hours, finding some sand-dollars and a couple of sea shells near the crashing waves was PURA VIDA indeed. Buena Vista sunsets are my favorite... and so so close to the villa. PURA VIDA.

Quiet escape from hectic schedule.

Our stay at Casa Michele was great. The pool view is exactly as seen in the photo. So glad we had the pool given the extremely hot weather during our stay (and the hammocks provided great afternoon naps!). The privacy the location provides is wonderful and it is peaceful. We were able to watch families of howler monkeys pass by the house through the adjacent trees a couple of nights. We also experienced their "communications" in early am a couple of mornings (glad we knew what the sound was before we heard them!). Enjoyed watching the wildlife in general (coatie coming for a drink in the pool, racoon, iguana, squirrel). The town of Samara is what we were looking for; not too touristy, smaller, friendly and helpful people. Our favorite restaurant was "Mama Gui" (Italian cuisine). We did a dolphin tour and were amazed at the number of dolphins we saw. Also did the McCaw and kayak river tour which were both good. The tour guides were very personable and pleasant. We were very happy with our stay and would recommend Casa Michele for anyone looking for a great getaway.

Private Villa

We enjoyed our stay in Samara and at Casa Michele. We loved the Samara area and the great restaraunts. We loved Playa Samara and Playa Carilla and exploring the area. The listing talks about Playa Buenavista and I was excited about having a beach so close. However when we walked to the beach and saw the warning sign for crocodiles in the estuary we decided to pass. We loved hearing the howler monkeys each morning and looking up at the stars at night. We also enjoyed our time by the pool and laying in the hammocks. I will mention that during our stay the internet connection was poor/nonexistent and most days we could not connect with our children back home before leaving for the day. The internet never worked outside. The listing stated there was a local Costa Rica cell phone available for the guests which I would have been more comfortable with considering the internet issues in case you needed to contact the caretakers.

Perfect getaway

We had an incredible vacation at Casa Michele (me, my husband, and our 6 and 8 year old boys). The pool was absolutely gorgeous and well-maintained, and the hammocks are unbelievably comfortable. The views are stunning, the house is well-equipped and beautiful- we want to come back next year! The beaches in the area are lovely and perfect for swimming and surfing. The wildlife around the house is awesome- coatis, howler monkeys, raccoons and iguanas. If you're traveling with kids, you might want to show them a video of what a howler monkey looks like and how such a cute and harmless animal can make such a big noise- our kids were a little bit scared by the noise at first and then entertained once they figured it out. :) Thank you a million times for sharing your slice of paradise with us- I wish we could have stayed for a month instead of a week!

Pool and View were Amazing!

We stayed here almost a week, after being in Tamarindo. We much preferred the quiet, laid back vibe of Samara. Tamarindo was OK, but more expensive and always windy with rocky swimming areas. As for our stay at Casa Michele, we were really happy with it, but we really missed A/C. It gets so hot and by 10 am you don't want to be in the house if you don't have to. Sleeping was difficult in this heat.. But we aren't used to it, coming from Canada. The pizotes and money's were entertaining, aside from the monkeys howling at 5 am every morning.... But it is their territory after all!! Short drive into town, too far to walk if you don't deal with heat well. Thanks for the hospitality to the owners and property manager!
