About this property

Lakefront Cabin on Vancouver Island

Welcome to the Elk Cabin on the Lake!

Escape the hustle of the city in this beautiful waterfront custom timber home nestled on an acre of Lake Cowichan's east shoreline. Soak up the sun with the 180 degree exposures and watch the sun drop behind the Seymour Mountain Range from the private beach. Enjoy swimming off the private dock or wading into the water from the beach. Explore the lake via kayak, paddle board or peddle boat available for use.

You will have the entire home to yourself. The cabin has two floors. The main floor has 2 bedrooms (1 XL Double, 1 Queen) and 1 bathroom. The kitchen, dining and living room are also on the main floor. You can access the expansive outdoor deck from the main floor. On the 2nd floor there is a 3rd bedroom (1 King) with an Ensuite. There is also a wonderful loft area with chairs and a futon to relax and read a book or a sleeping option for kids.

Outside, the property has lots of area to play outdoor games, sit around the campfire or access the water from our private beach and dock. Enjoy dinner on the large outdoor deck or relax and grab an afternoon nap on the outdoor couches and loungers.

When it comes time to relax indoors, warm up by the fireplace and the cozy living room with popcorn and whatever your latest Netflix interest may be!

The cabin is fully off-grid but has many modern conveniences including Starlink Satellite Wifi; low impact solar power with backup generator; triple-filtered mountain spring water supply; propane heat, hot water and appliances. Being off-grid of we aim to minimize our impact on the environment so we do not have laundry machines. The closest laundry is 15 mins away.

We affectionately call it our Elk Cabin due to the amazing Roosevelt herd Elk that love to roam around the area - keep an eye out for them!

We look forward to welcoming you!

Fantastic start of our holiday!

Lovely place with enough room for 6 people, inside and outside the house. Near the lake, nice areas to sit and it was fantastic to go on the water by paddle board, kayak and the peddle boat.

Bike trip to Youbou

The place was absolutely perfect for us. Lots of room to sleep everyone and plenty of indoor and outdoor space for eating and hanging out. The huge lawn was great for games and we made good use of the fire pit at night. Would definitely stay there again.

Beautiful spot on a very special lake

We had a wonderful two weeks at Jake and Johanne’s cabin on Cowichan Lake. It was a great base for exploring the area and the cabin was spacious and well stocked. The kids really enjoyed the pedal boat and the shallow water. The hosts gave very clear instructions for check in and were quick to respond when we had questions. We hope to come back!

Elk Cabin

We loved our stay! The property suited us well and we spent a lot of time in the little beach house enjoying the lake and the view. The manual that was provided with detailed instructions answered all of our questions and we had no problems with anything.

Excellent Thanksgiving weekend

Thank you for a very enjoyable stay. Things we especially enjoyed during our Thanksgiving weekend stay included: lake swimming, paddle boarding, pedal boating, lounging on the deck, and star gazing. We really appreciated the care and responsiveness of our hosts when an issue arose, and all was very quickly and satisfactorily. Many thanks!

Beautiful Retreat

We loved the feel of the property and home the moment we arrived. We were 2 couples, each with a teen and everyone in the group enjoyed our off-grid week, relaxing on the private dock, playing in the lake and enjoying the views. Perfect place to disconnect, unwind , slow down the pace and recharge. Johanne and Jake were friend, gracious hosts and very responsive to any questions or needs that we had. I would 100% recommend staying here!

Spacious, off the grid property on the lake

The cabin was beautiful inside, but in need of a deep clean (ie. noticed lots of dust and dog hair on certain surfaces). The patio was fantastic with areas of sun and shade and a view of the lake on a 1 acre property. There is an older dock that you can swim off of but it's quite shallow so now diving. There is also a small wade in beach, so bring rock shoes. There is no cell reception there but wifi is available and a cell booster for emergency calls. Check-in needs to be coordinated with the hosts. If the weather isn't great there is not much else to do in the area, so I would suggest bringing games to play inside. There is netflix though. They have a paddle boat available for use and it's a great place to bring your paddle board or kayak!
