About this property

The Best of Both Worlds: Natural Mountain Setting Close to Great Amenities.

A North Carolina landscape architect has stated that our house is on one of the most ideal lots for a mountain house he has ever seen. We are located on the flat crest of a mountain which allows for a level, spacious yard with dramatic drop offs creating pristine mountain views in three directions. On the slopes surrounding the yard is an orchard with over fifty varieties of fruit trees whose fruit can sampled right off the tree. Our home is surrounded by beautiful hardwood forests. We are one minute from a community pool, lake with paddleboats, clubhouse, walking paths, and other amenities which are available to our guests. To the east of our lot is Elk Creek which is a class "A" stream stocked each spring with trout. When the water is high one can kayak this gorgeous creek banked with the blossoms of Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron. To the west of our lot is Laurel Creek which is one of the most enchanting waterways on the planet with its crystal clear water, jeweled trout, wildflowers, rapids, and waterfalls.
Our home is newly constructed, energy efficient, and made from nontoxic and natural materials. For the months of June, July, and August, the upstairs is closed off with a locked door and not used by renters or the homeowner. For September through May the upstairs is closed off with a locked door from the rented down stairs, and it is accessed by the owner from a separate outdoor stairwell so that the owner does not pass through any rented space when the owner may be staying in the upstair. Because of this, we have not described or photographed it in any part of this listing. All interior spaces that are described in this listing are spaces used only by renters. What we are renting is the downstairs which has two bedrooms (one queen bed and two single beds), a large bathroom, a laundry room, a fully stocked eat-in kitchen, and a living area. The down stairs has internet and direct TV. Appliances include a refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster oven, dishwasher, coffee maker, washer, and dryer. All rooms have gracious windows which allow for an abundance of light and offer excellent mountain views. In addition, the spacious living area has a sleeper sofa that can sleep two. The living room opens out onto an expansive covered porch which runs the length of the house. From the porch one can look out across a valley and into a mountain range over which the sun and moon rise.

Great get-away!

Loved the amenities in the neighborhood! We enjoyed the proximity to the pool, trails, basketball/pickleball courts. The home is cozy and had everything we needed in the kitchen. My favorite spot was the front porch!

Friend Reunion/Family Vacation

This was the sweetest mountain getaway we could have asked for. We met George upon checkin and he was so polite and friendly! The house is about a 5 minute drive to a creek that has several trail options with creek access. There was a community pool we used and several trails around the area that we explored. The house was perfect in every way. Anything we could have needed was already provided. I really hope to come back soon and relax in this home. My favorite part was the huge open front porch. There was a gorgeous view and the quiet community allowed us to rest and enjoy ourselves. Would recommend this place to everyone.

Fantastic vacation rental!

Our stay at George’s cabin was one of our best vacations ever. The location is absolutely spectacular, we love the community, and the proximity to Boone is superb. We actually can’t wait to go back in the summer and fall, this is a beautiful place. My only suggestion would be a little more comfortable living room furniture. They were ok but could be better. Accommodations were spacious, the kitchen was great, everything else was five stars.

Beautiful area and quite. There is no store close, 30 mins away so take what you need. This is a universal statement, we have stayed many place but have yet found one with comfortable furniture or beds. It does make you appreciate going home!

Good value for Powderhorn

The house is a fine place to stay on Powderhorn Mountain. The beds were comfortable and the property was clean. The furniture is older and we would have liked some throws or blankets in the main room to use while on the couch. Also, some of the windows are not able to be locked, but this is not really a problem on powderhorn as it is a safe location. he property is beautiful and the location near the club house is convenient. Some finishes are rough but the affordable price of the cabin more than makes up for this.

A++++!!

What a wonderful stay I enjoyed at Mr. and Mrs. Taylor’s home! Very clean, beautiful view, and a home well appointed for VRBO guests. There are only positives to share about my stay. I even had great communication with their property manager when I had a quick question about check-out procedure. Thank you to the Taylors; A++++!!

Slice of Heaven

This home is amazing. Perfectly clean. Every amenity we needed. The front porch is perfect. Even though it rained ( a lot) we were able to be outside and enjoy the quiet and beauty. 4 slept extremely well. If your party has 5, I'd bring some padding as the sleeper sofa was, well, a sleeper sofa. This will be a spot we all hope to enjoy for many years to come. We couldn't have had a better host and hostess. Our host recommended we print off directions as WIFI is sky hy on the way to the home. We did and I'm glad. You can't beat this place!

Truly the Best of Both Worlds :)

This was our third time staying at this residence and our family just loves it! With just a short walk to the pool, the camp site within Powder Horn Mountain to make s'mores, to the pickle ball court, to the great hikes along the creek and swimming holes, to the wildlife including deer and other critters we enjoyed, and all within a 25 min drive from the great amenities Boone has to offer. As a family we enjoyed the newly opened Watauga Community Recreational Center in Boone, High Gravity Adventures, Mystery Hill, the Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster in Banner Elk as well as great playgrounds in Blowing Rock and Boone as well as a few great hikes along the Parkway! Loved it! Thanks again for making this property available. Hopefully we get to visit again :)

Great quiet retreat

Just what the doctor ordered. Perfect little cabin tucked away in the middle of the mountains. Could not have asked for a more peaceful and quiet stay. Tons of beautiful trails with waterfalls galore to explore. My dog and I had a great time and plan to stay again soon.

Very Nice Place!

Lots of space and well stocked kitchen. Plenty of towels and blankets. Beautiful setting and very quiet. No neoghbors close by so we were anle to let the dog off leash. Bring a thick pad if you're using the pullout bed. It was very uncomfortable. Other beds were fine. TV in the living room had Netflix which was great! WiFi wa's good too.

Loved it!

Our family stayed for 2 weeks to visit family in Boone and absolutely loved it! We hiked. We swam. We enjoyed our adventures in Boone and in the surrounding communities. We wish we could have stayed longer! The house was perfect for our family of 5. Very clean and absolutely loved sitting on the porch enjoying sunrises to thunderstorms. Hope to get back someday. Thanks George for making your property available :)

True GETAWAY

My family and I are extremely happy with the location, beautiful scenery. We were able to use the paddle boats, gym and pool walking distance from house. The trails led to various waterfalls which to include crossing the river. Amazing time! We saw the fruit trees and multiple turkeys which my daughter was blown away by.

Misrepresented!

Rented this house for an anniversary and brought a marinated steak to grill the first night. No grill! The grill listed under amenities was at the community club house that is not within walking distance. Direct TV listed, not Direct TV - Roku. An ottoman shown in photos of living room was not there. In four days we never saw an orchard as advertised. The house is apparently undergoing some kind of renovation, not yet completed. Toilet paper holder falling out of wall, top of toilet cracked. No exhaust fan above stove, just a hole in the wall with a wire in it. No closet in master bedroom. There is a single mattress on the landing to upstairs!? Only A/C in the house is a loud hotel room unit in the kitchen. Picture hangers on walls with no pictures. Ice maker in fridge not working. A landscape architect may have loved this site, but it's hard to believe an architect had much to do with designing this house. I am eternally grateful for my wife who still loves me after making her spend 4 nights in this place. She said I was 1 & 1 arranging trips, our honeymoon in Bermuda 30 years ago and this trip. She will handle all VRBO rentals from now on.

Lovely, secluded mountain retreat!

Truly the best of both worlds! We felt far away from any hustle and bustle of Boone/Blowing Rock but close enough to visit restaurants/shops if we wanted to. It was beautiful to hike the trails within the neighborhood and nice to be so close to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The home was clean, simple, and warm, and the property was gorgeous! Looking forward to visiting again in June!
