About this property

Tropical Garden 1 Bedroom Condo--Private, Quiet, and Romantic, Wi/Fi, A/C

This 1 BR Condo is a lovely, private, even romantic, GARDEN VIEW CORNER UNIT, with a good partial OCEAN VIEW. Two walls of glass look out from the living room to private, tropical gardens and to the West a partial ocean view. Lanai's are on the West and North sides surrounding the unit. It is the only true 1 BR unit at Kona Shores (separate BR). The unit is also in the most PRIVATE AREA of the complex--the northwest corner of the facility--furthest from Alii Dr. and nearest the ocean. Kitchen and Bathroom have been completely REMODELED in 2015 and 2016. Wi-Fi is provided, and there are 2 wall air conditioners; one in living room near kitchen--the 2nd in the bedroom. The OCEAN-SIDE POOL is perhaps the best for size and View along Alii Drive.
Enjoy DINING at the corner of the west and north covered patios and watching green day geckos in the golden-fruited palms and plants very nearby. A little breeze keeps the 80 degree plus weather comfortable in the afternoons. Then take a dip down at the OCEAN-SIDE POOL that perches on a lava point, or walk to the sea on the concrete path along the pool to watch the sunset to the West or over Kailua pier at the other side of the Bay.
This condo features a new tile entry and new tile flooring in the SEPARATE ROOM KITCHEN and bathroom. Granite counter-tops surround all sinks and provide surfaces for all cabinets. The good quality wood cabinets are new in each of the rooms. In the kitchen there is a new large refrigerator, a newer gas stove, a microwave, coffee-maker and a complete complement of kitchen utensils, plates, etc. The kitchen window looks out on the end of the West Lanai.
The LIVING ROOM has two walls of glass (North and West) looking out at the private view of tropical gardens. On the North there is 6 ft. of Ginger and Palms, then 30 ft of sloping down landscaping of property next to ours. LR furniture includes a padded, rattan sofa and loveseat; a flat-screen TV, Cable TV, DVD, VCR, a closet, and shelves for books. Air conditioner, ceiling fan, and a floor fan (if needed) keep it cool in this comfortable unit. This 1st floor unit is cooler than roof-top 2nd floor units due to the extra "insulation".
The separate Bedroom has a Cal-King bed, a chest of drawers, an air conditioner, a ceiling fan, and a GLASS WALL AND PATIO DOOR looking out on the North tropical garden area. The large Bathroom is off of the BR. It has a sink area, a new shower/tub and double closets containing linens and supplies. Note: Secondary sleeping arrangements are unusual. There is a double futon-sofa, convertible to bed, on the very private north patio between LR and BR and two single air mattresses for placement in the LR (and inflation pump) if desired. some people bring the futon mattress into the living room at night--older children or adults may sleep outside on the patio. Also, there are two thick, single Coleman air mattresses in the BR closet along with a Coleman electric pump system. These can be used for sleeping in the living room at night and stood up against a wall (behind the sofa) during the day. All linens are provided.
Beach towels, mats, and ice chest are provided. The ASSIGNED parking spot is very nearby, about 6 feet below the unit where only 2 parking spots exist. You'll have no searching for a parking spot. Laundry facilities are very nearby. This is a Non-Smoking unit and Pets are NOT allowed.
The Condo is at Kona Shores, which is 1 mile south of Kailua village (and immediately south of a larger complex, Sea Village) on the OCEAN-SIDE of Alii Drive. The address is 75-6008 Alii Dr., Kailua-Kona, HI 96740.

Nice place in Kona

This is a charming place. We loved the birds, garden, and view. It was very private. The manager helped with every issue we had. The kitchen and whole unit was well stocked with everything one might need.

Didn't want to leave

Liked the large living room, very well-stocked kitchen, which included a dishwasher and full refrigerator, separate bedroom with Cal-King bed, wrap-around lanai (since it is a corner unit). The unit is on the first floor so did not have to haul luggage up the stairs. The assigned parking space was always available and is only steps away from the apartment. The laundry room is convenient. Had some questions about operating the TV, and appreciate that Bobbi stopped by to assist.

Great spot

We really enjoyed our stay. The location of this well-appointed corner unit feels secluded. We especially loved the birds and the ocean view. Easy access to west coast beaches and whale watching.

Great Place!

This place had everything we needed and was very comfortable. Loved the view, even if it is a partial ocean view the sunsets are amazing and the large garden lanai was so nice! A very short walk to the pool and ocean. Great location for hitting all the sights on the Kona side!

Excellent Property

Communication was excellent and the one request we had while there was handled promptly and with a smile. Thank you Bobbi! Even before our visit, we had to make a reservation change for unforeseen personal reasons, and Glen was most helpful with that. The unit was very clean and exactly as advertised. The kitchen was extremely well stocked, especially with the small essentials one usually does not expect to find, such as aluminum foil, plastic containers, zip lock bags, etc., etc.We will be returning to Kailua-Kona, and hope this unit will be available when we do!

Condo in Kona

The accommodations provided everything you would need to enjoy your time in Kona; king bed, full bathroom, kitchen with all the basic utensils, living room w/ sliders to small outdoor area. Note: The island weather takes a toil on the local buildings and complexes and almost all of these places could stand to be updated. If you are looking for a pristine place to stay, look elsewhere.

Roomy, quiet, great location

We stayed here for a week in January and loved it. Apartment is in a great location to get to all the places you want to see in that area of the Big Island. About the apartment itself: nice and roomy, comfy bed, clean. Feels very private, a corner apartment with a sliver of a view of the ocean. Great communication with Glen and always a quick response.

Good location

Nice location - walkable. Good communications and easy check in with lock box. Unit had a well appointed kitchen and lots of beach items appreciated like cooler, chairs, umbrella. Short walk to pool and shoreline. Unit was somewhat older in terms of furnishings. stayed during Kona world championship so price was high at that time I guess vs previous stays in condo with water view in same area.

Great condo and location

We stayed here for 2 weeks with our 10 & 11 year old children the condo was big enough to accommodate everyone it was clean and had beach chairs and towels we could use. It’s a great location walking distance to downtown bars and restaurants and the view from the pool is amazing. The only thing is there was no bedroom door and the kids had to walk thru our room to get to the bathroom. Other than that it was fantastic. I would recommend it

We’ll equipped condo

We found the condo to be very comfortable, well equipped, and conveniently located. It suited our needs perfectly. The kitchen was especially well equipped with everything you might have at home. My husband appreciates a good sharp knife and he was impressed. The view from our patio and from the pool area was lovely. Parking was convenient. Host was responsive. My only suggestion would be to add a bedroom door. We would definitely use this condo again.

The unit was clean, check in was easy, and the unit included everything you need for your stay, and additionally included beach chairs, umbrellas, ect. The unit is conveniently located and is showing some ware. Barbeque is a communal affair and is charcoal fired which was a surprise. Alcohol is prohibited anywhere outside of your condo, which was also a surprise. Further, the maintenance man stalks guests for compliance. A can of beer at the pool would have been nice!

Perfect Location

I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and homey my condo was. I shouldn’t have been because all the reviews also have stated something to this effect. I fed the birds every morning, on the lanai, as there was birdseed available to do this. I believe this unit is the only unit with a view of the ocean, and the unit above it. This was my first trip by myself and I stayed 11 nights. I felt very safe there and I spent so much time at the pool. It is literally right on the ocean, which was one of my favorite parts. The pool had a full view of the ocean plus the whole inlet where Kona town is. Of course, the sunsets were amazing! I will be back for sure! Thank you for providing such a lovely condo🄰

Alaskans in a warm climate

This condo is very quiet, peaceful, and wonderful to stay in. Very comfortable, clean and spacious. ,Nice King size bed, and good sized bathroom. Enjoyed feeding the birds who come to visit, many different varieties. The view from the lanai is beautiful. Spent many evenings down by the pool, watching the sunset. Very stunning! The BBQ area is very nice with tables overlooking the pool area and ocean. The location of the condo is perfect, you can walk into Kailua town for some coffee, or shopping or for dinner if you so desire. Parking is conveniently located right in front of the Condo, and laundry room is right across the hall. We met several other residents of the condo complex and all are very friendly. There is a wonderful peace surrounding this place. Will definately be returning to stay at this condo.

About the host

Host profile image
Ginny is now a retired Nurse, having practiced in several specialties and taught Nursing at the College level for many years; 20 yrs at San Jose State Univ. (Professor) and Sonoma State Univ. She loves out-doors, back-packing, swimming, and since our Honeymoon (photo) snorkeling. Glen is a retired business executive of Pharmaceutical and more recently Biotechnology companies. He has a pharmacy degree and an MBA. Growing up he participated in several sports and later focused on water-skiing, snorkeling, and back-packing. Both of us were born in California--she in Oakland, he in Santa Cruz. We both attended college at UC Berkeley and UCSF. Glen got his MBA at Harvard. Our most favorite vacations are to Ginny's family cabin in Yosemite and our Hawaii properties. We live in a house that we completed building in 2000 on Glen's family mountain-top property in Soquel (Santa Cruz), CA

Why they chose this property

Over the years Glen traveled to Hawaii many times, mainly Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. Ginny and Glen went to several Hawaii islands on their Honeymoon in 1985. (Picture is at Kona Village) We have owned a time-share in Waikiki, a lovely condo at Poipu Beach in Kauai, and several vacation and long-term condos on the Big Island. Our favorite place to visit became Hawaii for the sports (e.g. snorkeling), sites all over the island, variety of scenery, birds, and the fact that this island is not yet ruined by Tourism and population. We now own properties only in KONA.

What makes this property unique

We stayed at Kona Shores annually since 1985 (now over 30 years). We loved the PRIVACY of the North wing of this complex. In 1998 the lovely northwest, first floor, corner unit became available. Glen had seen it while helping a renter fix screens. We were lucky enough to buy this unit. We love the open feel of all the glass, the tropical gardens, the intimacy, a good partial ocean view and the very private location within the complex. (We are told that this special unit was built by the original contractor of Kona Shores for one of his relatives.)
