About this property
1/2 acre nature retreat -- cottage life with extra privacy
Closed until the warmer weather returns: Booking for 2023. July and August now available weekly.
This unique property is tucked into forest. Enjoy bird life; swim, boat, frolic with nearby access to Newboro Lake (canoe, kayaks, row boat, bikes, large standup paddleboard available at no charge); and discover small town cottage life with many restaurants/activities close by. Your converted boat into tiny cabin; outdoor large gazebo; and summer kitchen make a simple cabin life easy.
Turtle cabin is a real delight. Boat builder John and artistic Jane have created a memorable and delightful space. Rest easy on the memory foam bed. Have your morning coffee in the booth with window over the forest. Lounge on the deck. Play in the gazebo at night. Summer kitchen inspired by cabin and off grid life with the benefits of electricity and running water. Ask about the "Burro" mini camper for second bedroom use. And coming in 2023 the very private Shangri-La: a secluded bedroom with a great view of forest for singles. Additional fees apply.
Lots to do in the area. Westport has restaurants, music and bars. Many shoppes, good cycle routes, hiking trails galore with Cataraqui trails and Foley Mountain Conservation area.
Your tiny cabin is secluded and private. Ideal for readers, writers and nature lovers looking to chill out and relax. Walk into the woods with the provided tent pop up to enjoy your forest meditation experience.
Note: water is good for showers, cleaning but we recommend and provide spring water for cooking and drinking.
We prefer weekly rentals during high season July thru August. Owner on next lot in "Lady Jane" cabin if assistance is required.

About the host
Your host

Kelvin is an off grid/renewable energy explorer. Having had a career, then building an off grid camp, tiny homes and solar business, he is now mostly retired and volunteers on green energy and soil restoration initiatives. Yes, with a dash of electric boat building thrown in. Fun loving, book reading and writing, happy kind of guy.
Why they chose this property
This property is really about the space. Your space is a lovely 1/2 acre of forest, cliff face, wild garden and no near neighbors; yet within the town of Newboro. So the boat launch is a 1/2 block away. Restaurants are just up the hill. Its a really lovely and rare bit of old Ontario cottage life complete with American island owners, British cottage owning fly ins, and an eclectic mix of visitors and locals. The local folk are particularly noted as being friendly with a wide range of lifestyle.
What makes this property unique
The forest is a rare fingernail of Carolina forest and hosts not just an amazing number of bird species, but rare critters of all sorts. Expect to see birds that we suggest you don't tell others the location of. And certainly, if you get lucky, turtles. Yes, mums the word.
The gardens divide the area into rooms. Room for a small fire, room for living, room for lounging, room for meditation.
Pickleball courts at the public park.
