The Neighborhood:
West Highland

West Highland is a popular neighborhood that has been dubbed “The Heart of the Highlands.” This hot spot is nearby Highland Park to the East and the more extensive Sloan’s Lake park to the South - perfect for strolling, picnics, or soaking in mountain views and the city skyline. This property is a mere 5-minute walk to the junction of Lowell & 32nd Ave, the location of many local eateries and Highlands Square, where the Highlands Farmers Market and many neighborhood events are held throughout the year! Downtown Denver is a short 10-minute car ride away.
You will notice that West Highland is an ideal jumping-off point for exploring Denver, Boulder, Rocky Mountain National Park, ski country, mountain towns, Colorado Springs, Garden of the Gods, and much more. One of the perks of staying here is the easy access to grocery stores and local eats.

If you are headed Downtown, get oriented at Union Station, which has been reimagined as a cultural hub with cafes, art, and shopping. From Union Station, Coors Field is within walking distance to the North, while Ball Arena (Nuggets and Avalanche) is to the South. Trendy Larimer Street is also nearby. You can catch a light rail train at Union Station to get to Empower Field at Mile High. The 16th Street Mall offers a free shuttle, which is the best way to get to the Denver Performing Arts Center as well as the State Capitol and Denver Mint.

Further East, it’s a short Uber ride to City Park, Denver Zoo, Denver Museum of Nature & Science, the Botanical Gardens, and other attractions. The new Meow Wolf art experience is worth checking out, as are the Denver Aquarium and Elitch Gardens. All three are near Empower Field and the REI Flagship store.

Here for a concert? Red Rocks is a mere 20 minutes away by car. You may want to check out this area regardless of your itinerary – it’s a unique place, and its gateway town of Morrison is charming. Link up an easygoing riverside hike at Lair O’ The Bear or an afternoon paddle boarding or skating in Evergreen to make a day of it. Further south, you’ll find Roxborough State Park (40 minutes) for more hiking trails. One of Colorado’s main draws is Rocky Mountain National Park, which makes for a great day trip. Drive 1.5 hours through a dramatic canyon for a day of hiking, sightseeing, and wildlife viewing.

Depending on your destination, skiing is 1-3 hours away. Locals head to Echo Mountain, Eldora (near Boulder), or Loveland (near Georgetown) for a more low-key experience. We’re also within a few hours of Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, and other snowy delights. There is a Nordic center near Breck if you want to try out cross-country skiing, and the summer months are a great time to rent a kayak to explore Dillon Reservoir.

In short, this is the perfect jumping-off point for exploring the best of Denver and the Rockies! It’s impossible to see everything in one visit, so we look forward to hosting you again after you fall in love with Mile High Life!

Getting Around:
Denver is a highly walkable city. In addition to West Highland and nearby Highland Park, Sloan’s Lake, the RiNo Art District and LoDo (Lower Downtown) are excellent choices for strolling. Prefer to do your exploring on two wheels? Grab a B-Cycle and get pedaling! For those without a car, we recommend utilizing Uber or Lyft. Premier attractions such as City Park, Denver Zoo, and Denver Botanic Gardens are a short, inexpensive ride away.
The easiest way to get out and start exploring by car is to hop on I-70, the main East-West artery for Colorado. I-70 West will take you straight into the mountains. Red Rocks Park, Golden, Mount Evans, Idaho Springs, skiing, and all things alpine await you in the Rocky Mountains!
Take the I-25 Northbound exit for Fort Collins (New Belgium Brewery, Colorado State University, etc.) or pick up the 36 toward Boulder (University of Colorado, Pearl Street, Chautauqua, and more). Rocky Mountain National Park is located Northwest of Denver, about two hours away. Estes Park is RMNP’s charming gateway town. South of Denver, you’ll find Colorado Springs, Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge, and countless other beautiful destinations.
For those without a car, we recommend using a ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft. Both are readily available in Denver and its suburbs. Denver is very walkable; you will see rental bikes and scooters scattered around town. Light rail trains are also an excellent way to get around Denver. Catch the W line at Sheridan Station. East will take you to Union Station (Downtown) while West will get you to Golden. From Union Station, you can also change trains to get to a variety of destinations.

If you’ve never been to Denver, it’s easy to get oriented. The Rocky Mountains are to the West, and Downtown is East of where you will be staying. I-70 West will take you into the mountains and straight to the ski areas, while I-70 East intersects with I-25 for access to Fort Collins to the North and Colorado Springs to the South. The 36 takes you to Boulder and eventually the Rocky Mountain National Park gateway towns of Lyons and Estes Park. Get exploring!

Other Things to Note:
This is a non-smoking, non-vaping home! We appreciate that some of our guests may wish to indulge in some of Colorado’s herbal offerings, but this is not the place. If this policy is violated, an odor fee will be added to your reservation. Thank you in advance for your compliance.

Please note: If any reservation is extended to 29 days or more, we will bill in advance for an estimated hourly deep clean.

Amenities include self-check-in, a fully stocked kitchen, coffee, fast Wi-Fi, and Smart TV with streaming services.

Awesome Property

We stayed for 12 nights helping our son relocate to Denver. Property was clean and very well stocked. Great kitchen for cooking. The bakeware and cookware is in very good condition. Beds are comfortable. Safe and cute neighborhood. Walkable to restaurants and shops. 10 minutes to downtown Denver. We will definitely stay here again!

Perfect Base Camp for Exploring Denver Area

This is a perfect location and a very well-maintained house. It was excellent for our base camp while exploring the foothills of the Rockies. It was stocked with everything we needed to get started; unlike other places, we didn't need to go to the store when we arrived. The neighborhood has several great places to eat and shop, all within a few blocks of walking, and we always felt safe. Nice, fenced backyard for a place to kick back and relax. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a convenient and well-located place to stay while visiting the Denver area. Parking was right in front of the house, adding to the convenience of getting in and out of the area. It's much better than staying downtown. Would stay again for future Denver visits.

Wonderful older home

We come to Denver several times a year to visit our grandson and his parents. We will definitely consider coming back to this property. It is a beautifully maintained older home in a nice safe neighborhood. They have kept the unique features of the home while modernizing the heat, bath and kitchen. We were very comfortable and had plenty of hot water and everything we needed in the kitchen.

Great house, awesome location!

My wife and 2yr old daughter visited Denver for a long weekend to see family in the Highland area. This house was great, the location made for an easy walk to 32nd street with plenary of food/bar options. Would definitely recommend, we’ll stay here again in a heartbeat.

Fantastic experience

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and it was perfect for us. We stayed over a week and was comfortable, great kitchen, great location with cute restaurants near by and a lovely outdoor area/backyard and gas fireplace inside. My daughter and I stayed - the bed in the twin room was small but it was a twin and was fine for my daughter. I was able to work on the nice desk and everything was clean and well appointed. We loved the stained glass. I'll come back!

Nice bungalow

This bungalow is located in a very quiet, quaint neighborhood. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch, drinking our coffee in the morning, and having my two sons come over in the evening to sit around the table and eat dinner. The very nice place met my expectations. Check-in was smooth and management checked to see if we needed anything.

Lovely place!

We truly enjoyed staying at your place. The house is very clean and had lots of room for us to spread out. A lovely mix of vintage decor with a modern touch. We will definitely stay again when back in Denver. On a side note the twin bed is def not for a large person, but plenty of room for an air mattress.

If I could give 10 stars I would!

Loved everything about this property! The backyard, the cleanliness, the room with the twin bed was perfect for our teenager. The location is safe (I was alone 3 of the 6 nights and had no concerns at all) and walking distance to so many awesome restaurants! Check in and communication with the property manager was effortless. We will definitely use this as our go to place to stay when visiting our son in college in Denver!

Great location

Cute place, nicely decorated, clean, comfortable beds. Bathroom was kind of tight and can be entered from both bathrooms which was occasionally awkward. Fireplace was nice on chilly mornings and the location really can’t be beat.

Great Stay at West Highland Bungalow

Our stay at West Highland Bungalow was easy and comfortable from the start. The check-in process was efficient and the house was very clean and comfortable. The description on the VRBO website is very accurate. The neighborhood is very nice and just a couple of blocks to restaurants, coffee, and a really good ice cream spot! We had a little bit of trouble with the WiFi password, but the management company was quick to respond when we inquired about it. We enjoyed relaxing on the front porch but did not utilize the very neat and tidy backyard space. There is a fireplace in the living room that we did not use, but we appreciated the little notes with instructions on how to use it. The instructions for the front door lock were also very helpful. The size of the house was perfect for two and could accommodate one more very comfortably. We definitely recommend this property for someone who is looking for a simple, clean, and comfortable place to stay.

Great location great place just no ammenities

The sink in bathroom was clogged so we brushed teeth in the kitchen. There were no extra blankets and the second bed was tiny and super uncomfortable. There was no coffee … no coffee filters …. It felt like an office and a bed stuck in the room. The location was great and it was super clean just spartan.

We had such a great stay! Absolutely adorable neighborhood walking distance to food and breweries. The home was as listed with all the amenities needed. Felt like a home away from home. Fireplace was an added bonus, it was so cozy on the cold nights!

Not in Boulder

I searched VRBO for properties in Boulder and this house appeared. It’s in Denver and it didn’t look like a neighborhood I would feel comfortable walking in. Also, be aware there is no door to the basement or the kitchen so you will need a baby gate to prevent your child from tumbling down the steps. We smelled gas as soon as we opened the door, which I chalked up to the gas heater in the living area. We decided not to use it and ignore the smell of gas because we were exhausted from our flight. We were fine throughout our stay. Otherwise, it’s a nice house, though not the coziest, with everything you need including a good hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, liquid shower soap, toilet paper (not soft), powder creamer, sugar, coffee filters, and coffee. It’s a fully stocked kitchen if you plan on cooking. It’s extremely clean and the beds are comfortable. Good water pressure in the shower. Good TV. Adequate Wi-Fi. Communication was rather minimal compared to other VRBO rentals. We didn’t see the email with check-out instructions (it arrived our last night at around 8pm) until after we left.
