The Yellow House

The home is as advertised. Good for a couple or small party. Enjoyed reading about the history of the home. Would stay again.

Ideal location for All our Activities

The house gave us a safe, comfortable home base for hikes in Watoga Park, Cranberry Wilderness, Seneca Rocks; shopping and the Opera House in Marlinton; and a visit to Cass to ride the train and take historic walking tour.

Less than 1 mile to Greenbriar Trail

Enjoyed our visit. Sarah was great in responding to any questions And making sure our stay was the best. Only comment is the home has a bit of a musty odor.

Disappointed - not a great stay

So sad to have to write a less than positive review, but the house was not clean and it has a strong musty smell that appears to be coming up from the basement. The coffee pot had a bunch of mold growing in the filter compartment because the last renters didn't empty it when leaving, but apparently the cleaning crew didn't look at it either. The house had a lot of spiderwebs (and spiders) inside the foyer where you had to enter which again, the cleaning crew apparently hasn't paid attention to. Contacted the owner, received a quick reply and apology. Conversations were had about having a crew come in on day 2, but there was miscommunication and that didn't happen so my 2.5 days there were in a dirty house. Unfortunately, the pictures make the house look a lot nicer than it is, but that would have been ok if it was just clean. Wasn't looking for 5star lodging but was certainly expecting a clean place. Fridge and bathtub were both dirty and looked like they had not been cleaned in a while. Sadly disappointed.

Cozy Marlinton Home is indeed cozy!

We stayed in this house for 4 nights and used it as a base for going skiing at Snowshoe Mountain. We also went down to White Sulphur Springs one day (a scenic hour drive away) and took the bunker tour at the Greenrier Hotel. The house is a quaint old house, with wooden floors, and modern amenities. The washer/dryer was a definite plus. No dishwasher or disposal, though (which we didn't consider to be a negative). PLENTY of linens, blankets, towels, etc. It was even decorated for Christmas with a small tree, Santa couch pillow, etc. It is a short walk to the village center, where there is a nice coffee shop and barber. It was too cold for us to use the enclosed porches (they aren't insulated/heated), but I bet they are very nice to sit in during warmer months. One word of caution: the bathtub is an old-fashioned porcelain tub. Given the tightness of the curtains and the sloped sides, you should be careful if standing up for the shower. I almost slipped. If you're older or unsure on your feet, you might want to just take a bath to be safe. Also, the roads to Marlinton are very twisty, especially if coming from the west. This is standard for West Virginia. Bring motion sickness pills if you are prone! Our teenagers took them, but the pills didn't help with one of them! :-)All in all, we were very satisfied with the house, and have no reservations about recommending it.
